Hate new kitchen

I hate my new kitchen, I'm so upset with myself.

The colour just looks awful in the new extension. It's not a paintable kitchen.

It's the main hub of the home it just depresses me when I am in there.

Wouid I be mad to replace all of the doors, end panels etc? The company I got it from have a vast range of doors the same size so it would be simple. It's not bespoke. Love my worktop etc.

I wasn't in right frame of mind when I chose it and I chose bad.

I don't have the money to do it so I'd have to put it on finance/ save

But if he happy / I even hate cooking in it 😢

What's the current colour? Could you post a picture?

skankingpiglet · 28/05/2020 19:24

It might be just like a new extreme haircut that is a bit of a shock but you get used to it and soon love it? I'd give it a bit of time. (I say this as someone who regrets the choice of floor in our kitchen, so I do understand)
Can you post some photos with exactly what you don't like? Maybe we can work out how to improve things Smile

Lipz · 28/05/2020 19:25

What colour is it? If you can change the doots I would. It may not be as bad as you think.

TwistyHair · 28/05/2020 19:25

Could you sell the current doors? So at least you wouldn’t lose as much money.

Lipz · 28/05/2020 19:25

YinMnBlue · 28/05/2020 19:25

Is it the light?

Gather lots of plug in lights from all over the house and experiment with light at different angles, brighter, darker etc.

isseywith4vampirecats · 28/05/2020 19:29

could you change other things in the kitchen to make it better change the colour of the walls, flooring, would be cheaper

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:31

I went with a light grey as assumed the room wouid be dark, but room is very light!

I don't want to pic incase I am recognised 😂

But everything in the room is so spot on apart from the most expensive part I can't paint 😬 not sure what I was thinking

why can you not paint the doors? There is paint out there that can paint any kind of surface

loopylindazdaughter · 28/05/2020 19:34

Come on we need a pic

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:36

It's a smooth silk factory sprayed mdf door

Getting it repainted will look awful I don't like the smoothness of it, bit of a sheen to it

I had a massive freak out about our kitchen floor. My advice is leave it a month and see how you feel. We had to repaint the walls as they clashed with the floor. I saw a gorgeous light grey kitchen with dark grey, almost black walls. Would you consider something like that?

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:39

It's incredibly similar to this

The floor, units and colour

Live with it for a month and if you still don't like it ask a top end car sprayer to paint it, or get it wrapped.

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:40

Thanks Gunpowder - has it fitted in November

It's a big room so wouldn't work

@remmy

I'm sorry, it's horrible being disappointed!!

I wasn't in a good place when I did my bathroom & the fitter did some stuff that's made it less nice than it should have been. He was a difficult guy to deal with and I wasn't in a good enough place to make him redo it at the time. It's made it seem much smaller and it still makes me angry!!

I'm in the process of doing the kitchen, but it's made me nervous!!

Have you spoken to the company you bought your cabinets from? It may not cost that much to have the doors dipped/sprayed a different colour.

I wanted light grey, but the natural light in my kitchen makes it look beige.

I'm looking for a VERY Matt painted charcoal grey but can't find what I want 🙇🏻‍♀️

Gunpowder · 28/05/2020 19:46

Sad don’t beat yourself up. It’s really hard to imagine how things will look and most of us have never done a kitchen before, or only 1.

I love the pic but I know how frustrating it is when something doesn’t look right or how you imagined.

IncrediblySadToo · 28/05/2020 19:46

If it looks like that I'm envious!! I love it, but can't find anything that stays that colour in my kitchen!

DId you get yours from DIY?

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:46

I got it from a company like units online - even changing the colour I still won't like it as I don't like the smooth finish

That is a lovely kitchen! I would live with it and save up- definitely wouldn’t take out finance.

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:47

The cost of getting the whole thing dipped will probably be same adhering new doors etc
