Hate new kitchen

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 19:20

I hate my new kitchen, I'm so upset with myself.

The colour just looks awful in the new extension. It's not a paintable kitchen.

It's the main hub of the home it just depresses me when I am in there.

Wouid I be mad to replace all of the doors, end panels etc? The company I got it from have a vast range of doors the same size so it would be simple. It's not bespoke. Love my worktop etc.

I wasn't in right frame of mind when I chose it and I chose bad.

I don't have the money to do it so I'd have to put it on finance/ save

But if he happy / I even hate cooking in it 😢

If you’re facing redundancy I’d live with it tbh. We were hoping to do our kitchen before the virus but we’ll probably end up having to live off that money instead.

HerRoyalNotness · 28/05/2020 20:46

And I do understand about getting it wrong but that kitchen looks lovely. It’s hard to say what you could do without seeing yours itself.

XingMing · 28/05/2020 20:48

Just gone back to your picture. I think I'd start with a light-fitting in a strong colour and shape. Your kitchen units are a really good neutral choice, that will never put anyone off buying when you sell. The starting point for change is a decisive accessory of your choice. Something that you love, but that's purely something you fall in love with. It could be industrial chic or cosy, but I think you want something (probably expensive) that lifts it above generic show room.

Furloughedpissedoff · 28/05/2020 20:49

I like the kitchen it's just a bit safe. A standard patterned/bespoke wall tile, would really make a difference.

icansmellburningleaves · 28/05/2020 20:49

This is my exact kitchen. It’s lovely. I love mine.

TokyoSushi · 28/05/2020 20:50

I love it, what colour would you want it to be?

Bleepbloopblarp · 28/05/2020 20:50

I think to change a beautiful kitchen like that if you’re facing redundancy is madness! If you have money to spare then fine but honestly, that is a lovely kitchen. Try darker accents/wall colour etc first. Much Cheaper to change.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/05/2020 20:52

How about just changing the wall units colour. It will save money as wall units are generally cheaper and it's fashionable to have two tone kitchen at the mo. A granite might work well.

Bertucci · 28/05/2020 20:52

Our kitchen looks identical and we love it!

We replaced the knobs and cups with chrome (they were pewter). The island is a dark grey.

People always admire our kitchen.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/05/2020 20:54

Weston don't be a sick.

Toilenstripes · 28/05/2020 20:56

I think it’s beautiful

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 20:57

Thanks for your helpful commevts, some really good ideas - of course I'm not planning to do anything immediately due to current climate but Im going to be here for many years.

I chose the colour as it's one of my favourite colours but in a south facing garden it looks a bit wishy washy - shoiiid have gone dark 😬

Also it's a smooth finish which shows lots of grease marks!

If it helps I have a dark kitchen and wish I’d gone for your colour Grin house swap?!

TwistyHair · 28/05/2020 20:59

What about changing the handles. To a bright colour.

hapagirl · 28/05/2020 21:01

My biggest fear is a dark kitchen so too light would be an issue for me at all. Also, we are in the brightest time of year. Do you think you might appreciate it more in the winter?

zigzagbetty · 28/05/2020 21:03

If you want to replace it could be worth trying to paint the doors. Frenchic paint has really good reviews on this material and smudge or greyhound would give the darker colour

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 21:03

@Poppyfields21 my husband said I wouid have wanted light if I'd gone dark!!

Hapagirl - it was done in November .. it reminded me of a rainy day 😂

Mind you my dad had been diagnosed with cancer so I was feeling gloomy

Can you change the doors and plinths etc so it's just the carcasses which you can't see anyway!

userxx · 28/05/2020 21:11

My cousin did the same, went for the lighter grey and hates it, it's also a south facing room and looks completely different at night.

Weston - wind your neck in for fuck sake.

SeasonFinale · 28/05/2020 21:13

Paint the walls a really dark colour like charcoal grey or a dark fuschia or navy . It will really make a difference

Remmy123 · 28/05/2020 21:14

That's interesting .. maybe it's because it's south facing it's making the colour look, just not right!

@Westonsupermarebeauty

Wtf. There are people having lost their homes families and incomes right now. You chose the fxxcking kitchen in the first place. Show some gratitude and get a grip.
What has that got to do with anything? My greatly-loved sister died of cancer recently, but I'm quite happy for OP to change her kitchen so it makes her happy!
GreyishDays · 28/05/2020 21:17

What if you painted one wall a really dark colour?
