New job in Ellesmere Port where to buy?

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 14:53

Looking to move as new job in Ellesmere Port. Haven’t visited the surrounding area yet but have been scouring Rightmove and am very confused re areas! So budget up to £650k, detached at least 2+ bedrooms, large garden with room to extend if needed, kids grown up so just myself and husband. Have been looking at Chester and surrounding area, and now thinking of Neston/Wirral or Deeside as Chester pretty pricey. Any suggestions of good areas? Thanks

Hawarden also has a retail park with cinema and restaurants less than a ten minute drive away

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 21:08

Stabbitha sounds good - would you say Hawarden is a good place to live?

Yes. It's a village with excellent transport links. It's very preserved. No kebab shops. Very chocolate box on the high street. It's fairly central to the main towns, Chester. The Port and Wrexham. I lived there but moved and will be moving back asap. I now work in the village.

Moor lane is a country lane. National speed limit. No pavements. Popular with horses and is a hill.... It's been flooded at the bottom lots these past weeks

Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 21:18

Pitmans lane is just off high park. No through road. Very quiet

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 21:19

Flooding sounds worrying. Any idea about Pitmans Lane?

Do you have dogs? Hawarden has a castle. Private residence but Hawarden residents can get a grounds pass. Castle grounds right there on your doorstep.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 21:29

Hi yes we have 2 dogs! One of the reasons for looking out of Chester.

Pitmans is on a hill. High park. Clue is in the name. 😁

Moor lane house is fine. It's half way up the hill so the water flows down. No actual flooding but because it's just a country lane it gets a bit boggy at the bottom of the hill. I'm the heavy rain last week the road was like a little stream.

Hawarden is at the top of the hill. Deeside, shotton and queensferry bottom of hill. Avoid.

I say hill... It's the very start of the clwydian range.

Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 21:32

Hawarden is actually classed as low ground locally. Buckley. Penyffordd. Mynydd isa. Mold. All further up the hill. More chance of snow and a longer commute

Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 21:36

Hawarden is super popular with doggy types. The castle grounds is excellent for dog walking. There is also wepre park... Massive. Woods. Streams. The works. Also hawarden woods... part of the castle grounds but on the edge of the village

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 21:36

Stabbitha do you know where this house is?

Hawarden sounds great, do you find any difference from living across the border?

OP posts:
Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 21:38

Yes. It's very very close to the airbus a380 factory and an industrial estate

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 17/11/2019 21:38

Oi RB68 I live in Buckley. What's wrong with it!!! Grin

OP RB68 saidnit more politely than I did when talking about deeside. They said it was less affluent. I was going with shithole.

YY to PP who have suggested Hawarden (pron hardon) Northop and Northop Hall. All of these are very commutable to the Port.

Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 21:39

I've lived in hawarden or within 5 miles for 25 years. Rightmove property porn is my hobby. Ask away

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 21:41

Stabbitha is not a great location then? Shame as beautiful house but would explain why it’s been on the market since April 2017!

Not a great location. Plus the barn behind has been converted into about 6 houses.

kittycat01 · 17/11/2019 21:44

Do not move to Ellesmere Port. I would recommend Chester and either Hoole, Mickle Trafford or Christleton. Some places on the Wirral are nice too!

CoastalWave · 17/11/2019 21:45

Seriously. You need to be in Heswall, Willaston, Neston, Parkgate or Caldy (although you may struggle there) with that budget.

Would not even contemplate Frodsham or Hawarden (know both quite well)

Grew up on the Wirral and it's a lovely way of life.

kittycat01 · 17/11/2019 21:46

Heswell is lovely actually! Big no to Deeside or anywhere around there actually! Very run down areas and not a lot to do there!
