New job in Ellesmere Port where to buy?

Looking to move as new job in Ellesmere Port. Haven’t visited the surrounding area yet but have been scouring Rightmove and am very confused re areas! So budget up to £650k, detached at least 2+ bedrooms, large garden with room to extend if needed, kids grown up so just myself and husband. Have been looking at Chester and surrounding area, and now thinking of Neston/Wirral or Deeside as Chester pretty pricey. Any suggestions of good areas? Thanks

Just to say Chester has a great Park and ride system and loads of parking for that but as you say in town its restricted - its not a pop an shop place. Manchester side will likely be more expensive and surrounding Chester is Footballer city. I grew up in Mold and there are some nice places around and in the villages but its a wee bit more than a 30 min commute in traffic although the AA just said its 24 mins - but for the right place and views could you stretch. Might be a skewed view but not sure I would go Deeside - you could try Hawarden, Sychdyn (Pronounced suchden with the ch being a throaty sound rather than a ch of chair) you could also look at Gwernamynydd or Gwynaffield but you will be above the "snowline" so need to be comfortable driving in the winter with snow etc. I personally dont like Buckley but there is Broughton which has nice areas.

Looking at the map Christleton and Huntington have a nice feel. I like Tarporley but prices are high etc.

I would recommend going and looking around for 650 if you steer clear of over pricey areas you can get a stunning place and amazing views a townie, village or country feel - lots of reasonable pubs and food but in North Wales less Gastro more decent pub, Chester wine bar and bistro land but some really nice ones, Manchester side of Chester more Gastro and up market dining :-)

Sorry Gwerymynydd - welsh spellings still catch me out!

Some very good friends of mine live in Heswall. It's lovely - really nice town centre,
lots of shops and nice pubs and restaurants. Their kids are in a good local primary school and I understand secondaries are also good. And they have lovely woods and beach walks on their doorstep! I'd move there in an instant. Oh, and even for that area, your budget will go quite far from what they've told me!

RB68 · 17/11/2019 20:14

Would also say Frodsham nice

millymae · 17/11/2019 20:19

Apologies on phone at moment which seems to have a will of its own. Was going to say that Burton itself might be worth a look too as well as the road between Neston and Burton, and the road between Neston and Parkgate. Properties in the Earle Drive/Leighton Road area in Neston could also be suitable.
Heswall/Lower Heswall/Caldy/West Kirby are other areas that you might like but are further away from Ellesmere Port.
I shop in Chester lots and would move there like a shot. Others on here will be able to point you towards the best areas for your budget - I'm sure properties in Upton by Chester close to the zoo would fit the bill but there will definitely be other areas.
As to buses to get to Chester - there is one which starts in West Kirby and goes through Neston - Ness is not on the route though, and I can't remember if it goes through Willaston. It used to, but may not anymore. There is a train station just up the road from Willaston at Hooton with lots of parking and trains go directly to Ellesmere Port, Chester and Liverpool from there.
I see you have linked a property in Spital - there is a station here on the same line but it is further away from Ellesmere Port and Chester.

RB68 thank you for the advice! Will have a look at the welsh suggestions.can you tell me why you’re not so keen on Deeside?
What do you think of this house?

The thing with Chester may be that the value of the property will hold to be fair and it is nice to be in the action as such and be able to walk into town etc.

And something completely different-any idea what this area is like?

Move in - not Deeside as it is definitely a less affluent area, that is the old coast road so gets very busy summer months and mostly as I was in school in Flint college at Shotton and just don't pronally like the feel of it - Hawarden is nice and known as a nice area - not sure I could cope with the diamond pane windows when there are good views and prsonally that garden maintenance would be something for me to consider - looks high maintenance!!! The house itself is solid,

If you put that in for say Mold and surrounds these are what come up, I love this one:

More money but again nice www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-61518723.html

This one lovely and lots of updating done very nicely www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-72140500.html

but be careful about the snowline - when the rest of the UK gets snow if you are above that snowline you get a shed load. Nercwys is above - the Hendy Rd one just about on it I would say. We used to live on one of the roads off the town end of Hendy Road far enough out but near enough to shop etc

RB68 · 17/11/2019 20:43

Northop and Northop Hall also good I notice a few bigger properties out that way as well

Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 20:47

I live in that neck of the woods. I worked in the port for 8 years and lived a 20 minute drive away in North Wales. Council tax and services are cheaper in Wales.

I'm in the next Village along now but could afford it I would move back.

A lottery win and I would buy www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-84964754.html

Doesn't look much outside and not necessarily the best side/area but oh my lovely inside indeed! I would give this a second look - just check that tree at the front doesn't block your access too much

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 20:53

RB68 thanks, have saved houses you suggested. And yes the diamond window panes would have to go!

I grew up in Frodsham and lived there until I was about 25 lovely place and you'll get something nice for your budget. Look at surrounding villages too - helsby, Alvanley, Kingsley all nice.

I also worked in Ellesmere Port for a good 6 years whilst living there - v easy commute. No need to go on the motorway, main road out of Frodsham which goes through helsby and then past Alvanley (A56) will have you in the Port within about 20 mins.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 20:56

Stabbitha I had looked at that one online - it’s gorgeous just wasn’t sure of the commute time?

OP posts:
Stabbitha · 17/11/2019 20:57

20-30 minutes depending on time of day.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 20:57

RB68 it is gorgeous- is it a reasonable area in Chester?

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 20:59

Stabbitha thanks that’s really helpful re commute time.

You are less than a five minute drive to the A55 junction where you can go towards the m53, m56 or into Wales. . You can be in Chester or ellesmere port in 20 minutes. Liverpool in 30 and Manchester in 45.
