New job in Ellesmere Port where to buy?

Looking to move as new job in Ellesmere Port. Haven’t visited the surrounding area yet but have been scouring Rightmove and am very confused re areas! So budget up to £650k, detached at least 2+ bedrooms, large garden with room to extend if needed, kids grown up so just myself and husband. Have been looking at Chester and surrounding area, and now thinking of Neston/Wirral or Deeside as Chester pretty pricey. Any suggestions of good areas? Thanks

Anyone know what these options would be like?

You need to visit really. Where are you moving from? In the Port itself, 650k is a HUGE budget. What do you want in terms of location, pubs/shops/transport etc?

Personally I wouldn't move to Ellesmere Port, I'd look elsewhere in the surrounding areas. The Wirral has some lovely parts and some less lovely, you probably want to take a drive round to see the layout of the area for yourself.

Christ, with that budget you could buy the shipyards Grin.

Hi not looking to buy in Ellesmere Port but need to be within a half hour commute!
Have been looking on rightmove and like the look of Ness and perhaps Deeside but unsure of the areas?
A village with a pub etc would be good and a bus to Chester as I think parking there would be tricky? Hoping to visit the area in the next week.
Thanks

Chester or some of the villages on the outskirts like Christleton would be my pick

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:09

Quite like the look of this one in Christleton

It's a busy road but yes, nice looking house. There are a few houses that have come up recently on that road that look substantial and nice. Christleton itself is nice, has a pub etc, and I think a good school (but I don't have kids). It's pricey.

I don't know the Wirral well enough to comment in detail although I like Heswall and would consider investigating it more carefully myself if/when we look to move.

Is only one of you going to be working? If not, where might the other commute for work? Roads can be busy and accident prone so this might help narrow things down. You could also consider looking just over the Welsh border, you can often get a lot more for your money.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:56

Hi tentative3 yes only my husband working at Ellesmere Port and I will be working from home and no schools to worry about. Can you suggest any places over the border?
Thanks

I am from Wirral and with that budget I would look in Heswall, West Kirby, Neston or Parkgate

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:03

Hi Everythingmagnolia, would they all be a reasonable commute to Ellesmere Port?
Thanks

That's a huge budget for the area, I'm from the Wirral although I don't live there any more it's really lovely!

I'd agree, Heswall, Parkgate, Ness, Neston, even West Kirby & Caldy would be lovely. Nowhere is really very far from anywhere as long as you can get to the M53 easily enough!

Fascinated to know what job in Ellesmere Port gives you that budget!

TokyoSushi · 17/11/2019 19:13

Thornton Hough is lovely - definitely consider living there!

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:20

Budget as moving from a more expensive part of the country, although even so can’t afford very much. In Chester!

Is the commute to Ellesmere Port easier from the west?

OP posts:
Everythingmagnolia · 17/11/2019 19:33

Ellesmere Port is just off the M53 which is easily accessible to most of Wirral

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:46

Thanks.

Have a look at Willaston
I don't live a million miles away from Mill Lane - it's close to Ness Gardens but Mill Lane is a rat run in the sense that people use it to get onto the A450 which is the main road into Chester from Neston. It's a narrow road There is nothing in Ness apart from a pub. If I had your budget and liked the area close to Ness I would look at the houses on the road between Neston and Burton. Avoid Ellesmere Port, Great Sutton and Little Sutton

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:48

What’s the housing market like, would it be reasonable to offer under the asking prices?

OP posts:
nutmegella · 17/11/2019 19:51

You might want to think about how you spend your spare time when deciding between Chester and the Wirral especially if you are the one working from home.

For example the Wirral has lots of watersports / lakes / beaches whereas Chester has The Storyhouse, River Dee etc

Both have good train stations but on the Wirral you are closer to Liverpool.

Everything isn't too far away though for weekend days out.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:56

Millymae thanks for the info! We really liked the look of that house and had wondered why it has been on the market for a while. Will have a look between Neston and Burton. What’s Neston like?

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:58

Nutmegella Chester would be really interesting but after looking on Rightmove don’t think our budget would go very far and have concerns re commute to Ellesmere Port. The Wirral sounds lovely, especially the beaches!

My friend stays in Frodsham & recommends it highly.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 20:03

Hi Frodsham has some lovely houses - just wasn’t sure about the commute!
