Apparently we are exchanging and completing Friday. If we do I will eat my own feet.

Do not hold me to this Grin

villageshop · 23/05/2018 09:18

I've been following this thread for weeks, sighing and exasperated on everyone's behalf at the hurdles and cheering people on to exchange.

Jumping in now because we too are at last due to exchange this Friday after a long and scary maze of smoke and mirrors.

I will be having hair for pudding if it happens (goes well with numptynuts 's feet). It's pretty chewed up anyway as I had an emergency stress-induced haircut which I hate and I can no longer bung it all up in a scrunchie which is a shame as that was easy and kept it out of the way, safe from chewing.

Numpty I won't hold you to it but we might need to hold each other up. The stress is making my legs wobbly and I can't think straight. When is your move in date?

Atthebottomofthesea · 24/05/2018 22:21

We are still no further forwards. I rang the solicitors and was told that 'he has been chasing them, he will ring you when he knows anything'.

So dh rang the estate agents - apparently the scaffolding that was supposed to be down last Friday will now be taken down on the 1st June, our sellers are going to try and firm things up tomorrow. Our buyers mortgage offer runs out mid June.

I am getting thoroughly fed up of being in this limbo. We were originally told the 15th April for the scaffolding (it isn't even their house but the building inspector won't sign their house off until the scaffolding next door is down) and yet now it is the 1st of June.

I think I know which development they are building on - it is a massive development with another big one up the road, how they can be taking this long goodness only knows (I thought they built a house in about 5 days)

villageshop · 25/05/2018 19:58

This is not an update I wanted to make.

Our buyers commissioned an electrical check and they found something not up to current standards.

The rewiring cost is estimated at ££££ and we didn't exchange today as planned. I have no idea what is going to happen next...

Atthebottomofthesea · 25/05/2018 20:23

Oh no village surely a lot of electrics aren't up to today's standards as they change so frequently.

Have they said exactly what is wrong?

villageshop · 25/05/2018 20:40

Thanks for replying Atthebottomofthesea - apparently the lighting circuit is not earthed, which was normal for a house built early 60s but is not recommended now, though not illegal or unsafe providing certain safeguards are observed. (I have done a crash course on electrics this afternoon via google).

Apparently it's safe as long as non metal or double insulated (class 2) wall and ceiling lights are used, and no metal light switches etc.

We told them we would replace the light fittings with class 2 ones, which we can do straight away. Wickes do them, we discovered this afternoon.

But they may want us to pay for the rewiring which when I think about all the disruption - chasing into the walls, floorboards up, ruined flooring everywhere, redecoration - I have a headache just thinking about it never mind we don't have the money.

We won't know anything more until Tuesday. We're booked to move on Friday. Panicking a bit!

How's things progressing on yours? Are you still waiting till 1st June for the scaffolding to be removed? That was meant to be our moving day.

How's everyone else getting on? Some success stories would be good to cheer up the thread. Grin

OnePotato · 25/05/2018 20:53

Really sorry to hear village. If they really want the house they will have to factor in getting the work done. Our buyers survey showed up roof tiles needing replacing (some broken/damaged and a couple missing). It was about £800 - £1000 to get done. He went ahead despite me not agreeing to drop the price.

Only posting this next bit as you have asked for some success stories... We put ours on the market early this year and had to pull out of the house we were buying after discovering it had a history of Japanese Knotweed. We couldn’t find another house that was right so had to go into rented to keep our buyer. We then found a lovely house, exchanged a week ago today and complete next Wednesday. It’s been utterly exhausting and has felt like I’ve had to micro project manage the whole thing but the results and the wait are so worth it! The children told me at bedtime 5 more sleeps until we are in our new house!

numptynuts · 26/05/2018 09:00

We exchanged and completed yesterday. I cried a little...with relief.

villageshop · 26/05/2018 09:34

OnePotato - Great that your move is finally working out after what must have been awful having to pull out because of Japanese Knotweed. Good luck in your new home - only 4 more sleeps to go!

numptynuts Congratulations! Exchanging and competing on the same day must have been a bit of a logistical nightmare. Did you move out / in yesterday as well?

I will post an update when I have one. It had better be good news. In the meantime I seem to be doing a lot of comfort eating which I am sure to regret.

villageshop · 26/05/2018 09:41

I might post before I have an update just because of the hand holding. Hand holding is less fattening than comfort eating.

Who invented the term 'comfort eating' anyway? It is the opposite and just makes me feel fat and UNcomfortable!

numptynuts · 26/05/2018 10:57

Village we moved out 29th March and back to Suffolk from Yorkshire. Supposed to complete the week after so not so much a logistical nightmare but a financial one that came far to close to disaster.

Skin of our teeth, stress has been immense!

villageshop · 26/05/2018 14:35

Oh numptynuts that must have been awful and you have only just finalised things now. I can understand the tears of relief!

Well to our great surprise I have good news. We can't quite believe it until Tuesday when (fingers crossed) we exchange but we spoke to our buyers (who are lovely) and they are happy to go ahead so it all looks set to move at the end of next week, barring any more meddling from estate agents or solicitors. Wish us luck!

Atthebottomofthesea · 26/05/2018 21:04

village that is fantastic news, my fingers are crossed for you.

numptynuts Glad you are in, hope you are very happy in your new home.

I was very tempted to go and take the scaffolding down myself today when we walked past the development. Hopefully next week will bring us better news.

DumbledoresArmy · 27/05/2018 08:17

Hi all. Just checking in.

So all went perfect with our completion.
We're in our new home now! It's so surreal!! First night sleeping last night. Got pissed off a bottle of Moët I've been saving!!

Been working our arses off moving everything this last 2 days but it's not been stressful as it's what we've been waiting for.

I'm really hoping it hurries up for the rest of you guys.

So pleased for you Dumbledore! Enjoy settling into your new home.

villageshop · 30/05/2018 19:13

Exchanged! Move in tomorrow. Never moving ever again in my life.

Good luck everyone - things can work out. :)

Atthebottomofthesea · 30/05/2018 20:44

Fantastic news village Hope tomorrow goes well.

I'm going to chase again tomorrow.

OnePotato · 30/05/2018 22:12

Completed today and spending first night in our new home! Got about 30% of our stuff today and the rest comes from storage tomorrow. Absolutely exhausted but too wired to sleep. No blinds or curtains so have a feeling we will be awake early too!

villageshop · 30/05/2018 23:00

Good luck, Atthebottomofthesea - hope it's soon.

Congratulations, OnePotato. The whole process is exhausting. I know I won't sleep tonight either - moving in tomorrow, too excited, brain all over the place.

OnePotato · 30/05/2018 23:48

So glad you made exchange in time to complete tomorrow Village. What time do your removals come in the morning? Ours are arriving at 8am tomorrow. I couldn’t get them for today, other than for a few hours this afternoon. Enough to get the bits from our short term rental but not to get our things from storage. We legally completed at 9.05am today (brilliant conveyancing solicitor!) so did lots of car trips with stuff this morning!

Good luck to those still in the waiting to exchange queue. And sending energy to those who are fit to drop but can’t sleep!

villageshop · 31/05/2018 07:20

OnePotato - thank you, good luck for your move too. Our removals are coming 9.00 - 9.30 which sounded rather late to me but we used them before and they were brilliant so I'm not worried.

We paid in advance before exchange because we didn't want to mess them around (the way we were messed around with different dates) so they were able to be on standby thank goodness. Half a days notice for a removal company can't be an easy way to run a business!

Got the kettle and biscuits, the cat is safe with my daughter and we are nearly ready to go. Must get dressed!

Atthebottomofthesea · 01/06/2018 19:18

Well another week gone and still no news. I am getting really annoyed now, our buyers mortgage offer is about to run out and I fear the chain will collapse.

I am going to ring the EA tomorrow and ask if they will propose that our sellers move in with family, which right at the beginning they said they would consider. Because of ds (asd) it isn't really realistic for us to rent elsewhere.

egdehsdrawkcab · 02/06/2018 23:53

So good to see a few completions! Congrats to those in new homes!

Ours is still dragging, 10 weeks in now and s very quiet few weeks. Our buyer still needs their written mortgage offer but as soon as (IF) it comes through we should all be ready to exchange. Praying for good news this week!

villageshop · 03/06/2018 15:00

Just checking in to commiserate with those of you still waiting and to share how happy we are in our new place. We absolutely love it so hope it all works out as well for you.

Atthebottomofthesea · 03/06/2018 15:43

village I am pleased you are moved in and settled.

I spoke to the EA yesterday, proposed the idea of our sellers moving to somewhere else as a interim and explained how difficult it would be for us to do so.

He is going to speak to them, the solicitors and builder tomorrow and start getting pressure applied. He said that usually it is the builders trying to get things moving.
