We’ve just signed the contract and taken it back to the sols. Buying a new build, part exchanging our house.

Hoping to be in by the end of September.

HopefullyMoving · 24/08/2018 20:59

Ok. So I'm packing this weekend. I WILL BE exchanging Tuesday if it kills me

legolimb · 27/08/2018 08:19

I have everything crossed for you Hopefully

packing central here.

Our bedroom is pared right back. I really like it with no furniture Grin

The next room is DS'. He is home from Uni - I was hoping to have moved before this summer . I 'd pretty much cleared his room. It's tricky to do it now as he is generally lolling in bed. He has had the hard word this weekend though and needs to shift his shit today.

I want to pack all the crockery (have done half already) but we seem to keep needing to eat meals. grrrr

Excited!

HopefullyMoving · 27/08/2018 08:53

Thank you.
Yes. I've planned the next weeks worth of meals for everyone and packed the rest of the cupboard up in boxes.

The attic and garage are sorted. Haven't touched the bedrooms yet.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I have a bottle of wine in the fridge to either celebrate with or throw at the solicitors if they don't get their act together drown my sorrows with.

2moveornot2move · 27/08/2018 09:49

I am so jealous that you guys can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This week will be make or break for us, if we haven't exchanged by Thursday we are throwing the towel in.

We need to let the schools know which they will be attending on September 4th and it is unfair on the kids to leave it any longer. We need to buy uniform and get them mentally prepared one way or another so we have decided that wherever we are on 31st August is where we will be staying.

It can't wait to get back to enjoying the weekends!

Pearlsofmadness · 27/08/2018 10:59

Good luck everybody. @2move I really hope it happens for you this week!

We are in packing chaos this weekend. Have blitzed most of it but my house looks like a tip with boxes everywhere but I can live with it if it means we’re out on Friday.

Does anybody know what roughly happens on completion day? I’ve only ever bought a house, not bought & sold so I don’t know how it works when we need to get stuff into our new home when we get the keys but also get out of our old home. What’s usually a rough timescale of the day?

HopefullyMoving · 27/08/2018 16:00

I thought people aim for midday ish, but it's whenever the banks get their act together and transfer the funds to release the keys.

crenellations · 27/08/2018 16:58

It probably says in the paperwork from solicitors - we got a helpful handbook of what to expect and it said 2pm.

IKnowThisMuch · 27/08/2018 17:48

Fingers crossed for Hopefully and 2move 🤞🏻

I'll be on the phone to our solicitors first thing in the morning to chase up this paperwork. Hopefully it's just ended up in a pile on the solicitor's desk, and he just needs a bit of a poke to get moving.

In happier news, one of the posh furniture stores near me has a closing down sale, so OH got a bargain! It's our first piece of furniture for our first home together - makes it feel very real!

HopefullyMoving · 27/08/2018 21:16

Thanks @IKnowThisMuch.
What did you get?
I got a new table and chairs. It's great isn't it!

I hope we exchange tomorrow otherwise I might just lose my mind.
I have had a couple of wobbles. Am I doing the right thing? Won't it just be easier to stay here? Is this new (to us) house really that much better? There's a lot to do in this new house... is it too much to take on? What if a better house goes on the market? Oh my gosh I've been overthinking it. But it is quite a bit of dosh...

LIVIA999 · 27/08/2018 21:29

@HopefullyMoving I'm the same!! Ours needs soooooooo much work. Structural down to new kitchen bathroom carpet etc.. I keep thinking is it a terrible idea?!
If it went quick you wouldn't get cold feet would you

IKnowThisMuch · 27/08/2018 22:02

Hopefully - we got a coffee table. Well, the man in the shop maintained it was a TV unit, but we thought it would look nice as a coffee table. Glass, but with wooden legs. Think OH paid less than half of what it was originally up for sale at.

HopefullyMoving · 27/08/2018 22:23

I think you're right, LIVIA999 if it was a quick sale I'd not think that much about it and just get on with it. But with these weekend breaks of nothing and slow progress it just causes me to think more...it's neither helpful nor productive!!

@IKnowThisMuch I love a bargain! I spent £130 today at ikea buying silly little things like bath mats, front and back door mats, coffee table basket thing....and I can't remember what else!!!

IKnowThisMuch · 28/08/2018 00:02

Oh, I hear you Hopefully! The weekend after our offer was accepted, we went to IKEA and bought all manner of glasses. They have lovely gin glasses that only cost a few quid.

HopefullyMoving · 28/08/2018 07:32

Good luck this week everyone. Hope it's a productive one all round!

2moveornot2move · 28/08/2018 08:05

☘🤞 everyone that this is the week! ☘🤞

Let the waiting commence...

JustLurk1ng · 28/08/2018 08:36

🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🙏

2moveornot2move · 28/08/2018 08:59

First emails sent...

LIVIA999 · 28/08/2018 10:07

Oooo I haven't emailed yet! I thought I'd wait.
Maybe another two or three Minutes

TeamRocket · 28/08/2018 10:12

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 everyone! Really hope this is our week too. Surveys have held us up but now they're all back we should be good to go? We're moving into rental in two weeks wherever happens because of DHs job, hoping we're at least exchanged because we'll be 200 miles away if not 😐

HopefullyMoving · 28/08/2018 10:17

Received first emails just after 7am this morning from my solicitor chasing sellers. Then nothing.

So I've just emailed to see where we are.

We were so close on Friday, I assumed this would just be a quick process this morning. How stupid of me Hmm

2moveornot2move · 28/08/2018 10:43

@HopefullyMoving awful isn't it! The not knowing is the worst part.

I'm still waiting for a response, going to give it another half hour then start calling.

2moveornot2move · 28/08/2018 11:12

Just had an update to say buyers are putting contract in the post today. WTF! Why would you wait until the Tuesday after bank holiday to post it! Makes no sense, think we are being fobbed off again.

Barbara147 · 28/08/2018 11:35

@2move They don’t seem to have a sense of urgency. Have you let them know that you’re pulling out if exchange doesn’t happen this week? We found that things moved quite quickly once we’d given a deadline, very factually said we’d have no other option than to move into rented and that we’d be tied to a 6-month contract and therefore would have to pull out... it helped focus the minds. Of course you should only do that if you mean it but I think you said earlier that you wouldn’t hold out past this week?

HopefullyMoving · 28/08/2018 11:40

Right. Don't come near me, I might murder someone.

Whilst we were ready to exchange at 4:55 on Friday, it turns out that in fact we were not and sellers solicitor have f**cked up again. We'll be lucky if it's this week.

Not feeling happy vibes.
