£250k 2+beds where?

Kikashi · 02/02/2018 22:57

Where can I buy a house for £250k max with at least 2 beds. Nice location, preferably with good public transport. I live in the SE and this won't even buy me a bedsit where I live atm. I am finding it quite hard to search Rightmove by just price so would like ideas of location. London/Sussex and bits of kent are my only experience of property/location (apart from holiday destinations in the UK).

When my last child finishes their A levels next year I would love to move somewhere cheaper but naice.

Low Fell in Tyne and Wear

bandbsmummy · 02/02/2018 22:59

You would certainly get this in the north west. Houses round here (south manchester) are £250k ish for a 3 bed semi. Good links to city centre and to London. Footballers etc.

wintermonster · 02/02/2018 23:09

Milton Keynes maybe?
Leighton Buzzard?

These might not be too far from where you are.

Bedfordshire borders two expensive counties in SE (Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire) but is far far cheaper to live

FadedRed · 02/02/2018 23:09

Staffordshire and Derbyshire. You could get three to four bedroom houses In nice areas, transport varies.

WeeBunnyFooFoo · 02/02/2018 23:10

Scotland Grin

I live in a ‘large’ town, 35,000 maybe, and for that price I could get a 4/5 bed detached with big garden.

RatRolyPoly · 02/02/2018 23:12

East Anglia. Basically anywhere in East Anglia (except maybe Norfolk Broads and certain North Norfolk holiday villages).

AJPTaylor · 02/02/2018 23:13

Leighton buzzard. Just over half an hour to Euston

wintermonster · 02/02/2018 23:14

Aylesbury, Bicester, Flitwick, Luton, Newport Pagnol, Northampton.

All have 2-3 bed semi detached houses for less than £250k.

All have excellent transport links too (depending on your requirements)

PickAChew · 02/02/2018 23:15

Low fell lovely, but adding most of Durham to the mix.better bet if you're not RC, so long as you stay to the north and westm

wintermonster · 02/02/2018 23:16

If you're happy to relocate further away you could get large detached house on very large plot for your month in North Yorkshire or Wales

whatnextfred · 02/02/2018 23:18

Preston

Our house is worth that . 14yrs old , detached, largish garden (grass and patio only!), 4 beds, 3 43

Haudyerwheesht · 02/02/2018 23:24

Hmm not sure where 343 came from! 3 reception rooms.

Love51 · 02/02/2018 23:24

Anywhere north of the Watford gap services. You might want to consider some more criteria. What industry are you in / skills do you have? Do you have a maximum distance from London you are happy with? Seems that schools are not a consideration, which widens your search. Do you want to be near the sea? City, town, surburbs, rural?

Haudyerwheesht · 02/02/2018 23:24

Bloody hell phone keeps posting before I'm finished - 2343

Haudyerwheesht · 02/02/2018 23:25

In central Scotland

Lincoln. Gorgeous town and cheap. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-68594633.html

Kikashi · 03/02/2018 00:23

Wow - so many responses. Thank you - so kind, gives me a lot of jumping off points. I'm mid fifties and self employed doing virtual assistant type work - so not greatly paid but have been a Senior lecturer in the past before I became a SAHM so can't see me having a career/well paid job again.Really struggling each month to pay my huge mortgage and can't remortgage due to income for a better rate and would just love to not have the worry. and have a bit of an adventure somewhere new.

I don't like driving as I have a balance disorder and like to have the option of trains/buses if it flares up so although I love long hikes I don't want to be too rural/isolated. Love the coast. I like small towns these days. I lived in Brighton when I was younger and could manage the London commute and loved having the sea and the downs nearby. I have 4Dc plus 2 nieces I brought up and hope will visit a lot so would prefer a house to a flat. We are used to bunking in together a bit. Slightly worried if I move too far North or to Scotland and they stay in the South that I'll not see them so much.

I'm planning to visit places I like the look of (after research). Yorkshire, Durham , Norfolk are all places I've wanted to visit. Will check out Log Fell and Lincoln.

Worthing, Eastbourne, Portslade, Shoreham? You should be able to pick up something for 250K. Close to Brighton, the sea, the Downs and transport links to London good but the ticket will be ££

GemmaB78 · 03/02/2018 07:34

You could get what you want for that budget in York, but be aware it is more expensive than other parts of Yorkshire. Good transport links and a beautiful place to live!

GemmaB78 · 03/02/2018 07:35

Lincoln is lovely and often overlooked. Very good property prices and good transport links.

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2018 07:35

I live in Norfolk and you can get a 3 bed house with garden easily for 250k. Good transport links to London, beautiful coast and countryside and a very nice city of our own (Norwich).

BikeRunSki · 03/02/2018 07:39

Lindley in Huddersfield (v “naice”)
Holmfirth, Penistone, Shepley, Denby Dale - possibly too rural if you don’t drive but all have buses and/or trains.

GemmaB78 · 03/02/2018 07:40

Or.... you could consider Beverley or Market Weighton in East Yorkshire. Nice little towns. Considerably cheaper property than the South East. Reasonable transport links. Close to lovely walks, the coast and York for when you want the city experience.
