£250k 2+beds where?

Where can I buy a house for £250k max with at least 2 beds. Nice location, preferably with good public transport. I live in the SE and this won't even buy me a bedsit where I live atm. I am finding it quite hard to search Rightmove by just price so would like ideas of location. London/Sussex and bits of kent are my only experience of property/location (apart from holiday destinations in the UK).

When my last child finishes their A levels next year I would love to move somewhere cheaper but naice.

Lots around that price in Folkestone (I've just moved here and its great)

lljkk · 04/02/2018 22:15

I'm not falling into that trap.
When MNers say naice, they might mean Holt (ignoring the UKIP heartlands), Chelsea on Sea, parts of Aylsham on a good day or Worstead. The rest is struggling to get to the dizzy heights of naice.

RedRobin87 · 04/02/2018 22:49

See, I live near Holt and I am not a fan - turned into the land of second homes and overpriced shops.

Anyway of nice places in Norfolk though. House prices aren't too bad here - although they are rising fast - our house has increased in value £20k in three years.

Lots of employment opportunities in Norfolk, Norwich has lots of variety and commuting to London isn't too bad

I'd say the whole stretch from Sheringham to Brancaster Staithe is quite naice, that's what people mean by north Norfolk right?

Farrow & Ball have even named a paint after Cley.

Yorkshire, parts of Cumbria, Northumbria. Cheaper houses, lovely market towns, beautiful scenery, good people, quality of life. Definitely less stressful. Good rail links now. You can be down in three to four hours depending where you are going to. London is just over three.

Somerset - we sold our 3 double bedroom house in a nice area of town/quiet cul de sac for £196,000.

I live in Cheshire can easily buy a 2-4 bed there for 250k in nice areas.

Devon, Cornwall.

Worcester is lovely - two railway stations so you can get to Birmingham or London easily (2 hrs to London). It is also on the way to Malvern / Hereford and near to the Cotswolds.

It might not be coastal but has the River Severn running through it and some lovely walks around. You can get a pretty decent semi 3 bed here for £250k.

CMOTDibbler · 06/02/2018 09:44

And a new station coming as well Moonlight - looks like they are getting on with Parkway now (at long last)

moonlight1705 · 06/02/2018 09:50

Oooh yes, I had forgotten about that CMOT - exciting news!

Essex and Kent within 10 miles of London there are loads, or this in Coulsdon Surrey.

Norfolk has a good mix of coastal areas and country walks (as long as you don't want mountains!) BUT public transport outside of main towns/Norwich area is patchy and it takes a long time to get 'out' to get anywhere else. Property prices good.

Second Malvern - stunningly beautiful hills (which were Elgar’s inspiration) ;great cultural life with a theatre that shows many plays that have been in the West End, ballet, orchestras etc; friendly people; two railway stations with direct links to London, Birmingham, Worcester, Hereford; near the lovely Wye Valley/Symonds Yat; new community hospital etc. And a good range of housing stock from flats to Victorian terraces. With our work we live all over the world but our hearts are in Malvern and that is where we will retire to - we particularly love West Malvern with its stunning views over Herefordshire, but that may be a bit off the main routes for you OP as public transport links not good compared to Great Malvern.
