This is what we are having

But it is true you lose a cupboard.

Hope you find something you like.

I’m thinking something like this

I love that bax, although dh has baulked at the price tag.

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 22:25

I like that Bax!

I looked at those but then went with quite a chunky cylinder one! I can’t remember which one because obviously I bought it so chuffing long ago!

We aren’t having the standard 2 or 3 pendants over the island though because of the way the vaulted ceiling goes!

I’ll try & find a picture of something similar!

We agonised over it for ages, I quite liked the Boro one & started a thread about it but no one replied! 😞. it is just a recirculating one.
We have an extractor fan high up on the external wall! Well we haven’t got one obviously, or a hole for one, but the wiring is there for one! Sigh! 🙄

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 22:32

Something like this! Definitely not that one though!

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 22:43

You know i’ve had a realisation today!
We phoned a plasterer yesterday to come & look at our existing ceiling, it’s artexed and has holes in it where twatchops knocked through with a space to see which way the rafters went!

He was v pleasant, polite friendly and helpful.
The guy who is doing our kitchen floor tiles came round for a recce, friendly polite & helpful!
The guy who quoted last week for our front window, polite, friendly and helpful!

Everyone other than twatchops has been polite, friendly keen to help and punctual!

We’ve got so used to be being spoken to like the shit on twatchops shoe I don’t know how we’ve put up with it for so long!

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 22:44

Space! He knocked the ceiling through with a space! Even that’s not right is it?

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 22:45

Spell check argghhhh! A spade!

DustandRubble · 10/11/2017 22:58

He knocked through artex with a spade? It’s a mad sounding way to do it anyway, but doesn’t some artex have asbestos in it?

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 23:03

He did indeed Dust!

It won’t have asbestos in it, the house was built in 1998!

It’s not great though is it!

Humptynumpty02 · 10/11/2017 23:11

Wasn't asbestos usage banned in 1999, which means it may well be present in your artex?

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 23:26

It definitely doesn’t have asbestos in the ceiling! As we’ve decorated each room we have got rid of the artex.

The plasterer is going to put really thin plasterboard over it (and the holes made by the shovel - spellcheck likes shovel better than spade)
And he can do it before the kitchen fitter starts on the 21 November! Punches the air!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 10/11/2017 23:41

I believe you are right humpty. I vaguely recall being told all buildings built before 2000 should be checked. It’s not terribly unlikely a late 90s house would have asbestos, but bloody hell twatchops strikes again! Angry

Whatthefoxgoingon · 10/11/2017 23:43

Oh phew TeamRick i was worried about your Artex not being removed properly. Can’t trust twatchops with anything.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 11/11/2017 00:22

What, is nothing better than Brora?!

devondream · 11/11/2017 02:34

Love that Bax

Almost looks like a light

Whatthefoxgoingon · 11/11/2017 02:38

Hah wrong thread! teach me to post during a bout of insomnia.

Believeitornot · 11/11/2017 07:23

@DustandRubble we ended up switching to a sink in the Islam as dh didn’t want the extractor dangling from the ceiling. But those under cupboard ones look great. I did watch loads of YouTube videos of them BlushGrin

Our kitchen was delivered last night! We must have been the last ones. I had a peak and can I just say, Hague blue is dark! But looks 😍 builder fits on Monday Grin

devon, our screed too ages and man alive the smell. I kept thinking someone had walked on dog poo.

Believeitornot · 11/11/2017 07:23

island not Islam Blush

NamedyChangedy · 11/11/2017 13:22

@Believeitornot I'm so pleased you like it - can't wait to see the Hague blue island! How long will it take to be fitted, do you know?

Tika77 · 11/11/2017 13:33

Oh... I love this thread. Was wondering why an Islam sink needs to be special and twatchops using the Force to break through artex. 😂

We’re moving slowly. Still at first floor level, they were supposed to turn up today to catch up but haven’t. They’re trying to blame delays on us when it’s the building controls guy being a complete bumhole... He just likes coming here and enjoy the power. (Apparently he’s recently been promoted and is enjoying it.)

Believeitornot · 11/11/2017 14:50

@NamedyChangedy not sure. I told them it needs fitting before Thursday because I have booked in the worktop templating for Friday, so the base units need to go in as well as the island. There’s a chance that they might just fit the basics for now as we’ve still got an internal doorway to block up which will form part of the new kitchen. Us still living there has slowed them down a bit as they’ve had to work around us a bit.

As soon as it’s done, I’ll obviously get some pictures on here Grin

devondream · 11/11/2017 17:56

Spent 3 hours back at the house today.
Longest time since we moved out in September. Felt a bit like home again.

I sanded and put the undercoat on a large solid wood fitted wardrobe. Can't afford to replace it so am having a go at revamping it myself.

The room already looks lighter without the dark wood.

100 EUR for materials instead of 2000 for new doors. Thought it was worth a try 😉

Hoping the next week is one of fast progress for everyone.

TeamRick · 11/11/2017 21:49

Busy day here too!
DS has been chipping away at the old grout on the original kitchen floor!
DH just about finished stud wall!
I have put the mist coat of paint on the utility room in the hope of getting power in there Tuesday!

In bed with a whiskey! 😬😶

Titsywoo · 11/11/2017 22:14

Still plodding along here. We have heating - woo! On the downside the electrician (who was very good) sent two other guys on Friday and they royally fucked it all up. Firstly they drilled the holes for the lights either side of the front door and didn't do them evenly so one is 23cm from the edge of the frame and the other 37cm! This is drilled through new brick so not easily fixed :( Then they wired up the new boiler and thermostat. That stopped working soon after they left so DH went to check it and the wires were all loose and not terminated properly. Luckily DH is qualified to work on electrics (commerical but he knows his stuff) so he called the main electrician (who to his credit said he would come and sort it but he is 2 hours away so DH said could he just sort it himself). Anyway all done now but took 2 hours of our time this afternoon.

Upstairs looks great though. I'm still struggling to choose my tiles for the kids shower room but I think I am nearly there! Our hallway is bloody huge - much bigger than expected and maybe a bit overkill for a 3 bed semi but I don't care Grin. I had a shitty corridor for 4 years and I love big hallways - plus there is loads of storage going in which is very much needed! Will add some pics in a sec.
