No Team it's Wren autograph pacrylic ice blue (I think!)

Fianceechickie · 04/12/2017 20:06

What's your work surface Believe? I have max top quartz and not happy with the way the fitter has cut and edged it.

Believeitornot · 04/12/2017 20:20

@TeamRick love the bar!! I could murder a gin right now. My alcohol intake has rocketed since having building works Blush

The jagged edge is noticeable when you get very close and bend and have a look. My main issue is that if water gets in, it’s going to run the end panel. It’s the end panel which is jagged, not the worktop. Worktop edges are lovely and smoothly rounded.

We’ve gone for recycled glass worktops!

Believeitornot · 04/12/2017 20:21

*ruin not run

Believeitornot · 04/12/2017 20:21

Also haven’t started looking at bar stools yet. That’s on my list!!

DustandRubble · 04/12/2017 20:43

I do love seeing all these kitchens, I have attached a picture of what mine ought to look like when it is done!

That is annoying about the edge Believe, especially if it means water could get in & damage further.

Teamrick we have ordered bar stools from Maison du Monde. Not sure if they exist in the UK?

We have paid EUR 240 for 3!

I'm reading and looking at everyone's lovely kitchens. Originally we were looking at dark granite, but then thought it was too dark in an area without much daylight. So we started looking at lighter colours (£), then someone said it could stain, so we looked at quartz (££) but I'm not sure about the sparkly so looked at marble effect (£££). So now I'm a good £800 over original budget. Am skimping in other things like bathroom as kitchen us v important but any tips or companies you've found who are good but not stupid expensive?!

Baxdream · 04/12/2017 21:38

We're getting quartz Branco carrera from topsco. Good reviews and some good haggling got us a good price! Very jealous of marble!

DustandRubble · 04/12/2017 21:44

We are having light granite on the back unit by the sink and wood for the island, with granite on the shelf in the island. We picked because we liked it rather than thinking of hard wearing. I am hoping it will all be ok!

whiskyowl · 05/12/2017 07:38

believe - Your kitchen looks a million dollars. With the end panel, it's not noticeable at all on the photo, but you want these things right - can you get them out and have it redone?

Fiance - definitely mention it! You're not being picky. You're paying to have something nice and it will annoy you forever.

Pumping - get quotes from 3 places, then ring all around them and ask them to beat each other's!!

Today is Electrician Day. Wish me luck ladies. I feel like I need a strong brandy!! I'm hoping by the end of the day the extension might be plastered AND my underfloor heating might turn on. You never know, stranger things have happened. I also have the task in a second of speaking to the builder about getting an insulated cat flap put into the wall of our coat and shoe cupboard, with a miniature step outside so my elderly cat can get out easily without hurting himself. It feels like the most ridiculous request in the world to make of a northern builder, and I fear will make me some kind of walking southern cliche with the entire crew. Ho, hum.

NamedyChangedy · 05/12/2017 14:12

Your kitchens all look lovely! There's a theme here, isn't there - about telling them exactly what you want - we're the clients after all! So whisky if you want a cat flap you must have one!! I have to keep steeling myself to have those conversations as well, as I don't want to seem overly fussy.

My worktop arrived yesterday and I'm pleased with it - Bianco Carrara quartz as well. I've put off taking pics for you, because of the sheer state my builders have been leaving the place in. Tools scattered everywhere, remnants of their lunch lying around etc. This morning I saw that they'd left half a tin of paint open from yesterday, so will definitely have a word about that - now that I know how much it costs I don't want a single ounce going to waste!

Lovely stools devon - I've been looking for some for a while, but was thinking of getting some adjustable ones so the DCs can sit at a comfortable height. Haven't seen any we both like yet...

NamedyChangedy · 05/12/2017 14:23

This is an extreme close up of our Carrara Bax, I really like it - quite subtle veins so not tooo dramatic from afar.

Lovely! Great sink too, namedy.

My house is the worst it has ever looked. There is mess literally everywhere. My builders are brilliant, but definitely not the tidiest. So I'm glad that it's not just me that is terrified to take pictures!! Grin

4yearsnosleep · 05/12/2017 14:45

Beautiful Namedy!!!

Baxdream · 05/12/2017 16:13

Namedy I totally got it wrong. We're getting cinzento. I absolutely love yours but hubby hates marble effect 😫. That would have been my first choice!
Anyone else battling through having totally different tastes to your husband?! 😂

Believeitornot · 05/12/2017 17:19

Anyone else battling through having totally different tastes to your husband?!
YES!!!

he’s previously made hideous choices so am trying to avoid these but we end up arguing GrinBlush

I’m right obviously. Wink

Baxdream · 05/12/2017 17:34

Same! Constantly bickering as we're both quite opinionated 🙈

Today's example- he bought a radiator for the cloakroom, I say it's too big. We then bicker as he's annoyed that his choice is wrong 'again '.
Our builders then arrive- we show them and they both agree with me! 😂

4yearsnosleep · 05/12/2017 17:43

We're only at the planning stages and still we can't agree on anything!!!!!

DustandRubble · 05/12/2017 17:52

We are mostly agreeing, although the washing machine issue nearly had us fighting. I have in the end agreed to try a washer dryer, I am sceptical but we are getting one that can take an 8kg load for drying so hopefully it will be fine.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 05/12/2017 17:58

My husband has very little opinion on home decor, as long as it looks nice in the end. I’m a very lucky woman Grin

Dust I have never had any luck with washer dryers but I’ve not bought one in over a decade so maybe they’ve vastly improved? The drum on my dryer is much bigger than on the same size washer, I assume that’s needed for effective drying.

Everyone’s house looks so lovely! Who is still on track to complete by Christmas?

DustandRubble · 05/12/2017 18:39

I have had good reviews for this whatthefox, so I am hoping it will be ok. Obviously it is a compromise on two separate units but we will see how it goes.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 05/12/2017 19:52

Fingers crossed for you dust!

Tatlerer · 05/12/2017 20:15

Lovely worktop Namedy!

Things moving apace at ours. Flooring down in kitchen extension and most painting done. We could even be on track to fit the kitchen as planned on Thursday/Friday!!

I started another thread but I'll ask you knowledgeable folks- the window people we bought our bifolds from didn't clad the steel post where the two sets of doors meet. They just missed it out entirely- and want £850 to clad it in the same anthracite aluminium. Anybody know if this is fair/ if anyone else supplies this sort of thing? Googling is fruitless!

devondream · 06/12/2017 05:10

I am divorced and a single parent so it is my 17 year old DS giving his opinion on everything!!!!!!

Fortunately he has excellent taste and I am glad I listened to him on a couple of choices as they now look brill!

Much easier to discuss these things with a DC as I get the casting vote 😉
