What?!!!!!!!!! The cheek!!!

whiskyowl · 09/11/2017 09:36

Oh no rick!! It's such a shame he's entering into a staring contest like this when he's let you down so very badly. Stand your ground, we are all here to be your cheer squad!!

My screed is down and it looks so smooth!! You can stand on it now but it will be many weeks before it's fully dry. Builder has said late next week for the knock-through, aiiiieeeeeeee! I am slacking off today with DH, but tomorrow the packing starts in earnest and the real chaos descends.

Most of the existing wiring has been transferred onto a new fuseboard, which seems to have captivated the electrician because it has an LED light in it. He keeps showing me how it comes on when it is opened! Grin

I think today the external insulation gets finished!! Grin

Whattodowithaminute · 09/11/2017 10:48

rick what’s he trying to invoice you for?!! You poor things just when you thought you were shot of him.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 09/11/2017 13:55

G’wan Rick entertain us with the details of this invoice Grin

Exciting —dusty— times ahead whisky!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 09/11/2017 13:56

On a more serious note rick: I’d be threatening him with small claims court and/or reporting to trading standards by now.

Baxdream · 09/11/2017 14:08

whisky we appear to have things being done the opposite way around!
We have our knock through done but no screed until tomorrow!

Be prepared for the dirt and dust!

DustandRubble · 09/11/2017 16:42

We have been delayed by broken tools so still no columns in. Come on!

I have picked all our appliances though, after much agonising.

TeamRick · 09/11/2017 19:09

Wait for it!

He wants £800 for the plastering he did last week!

Which is odd because we have paid fortnightly in advance for work to be completed throughout the whole 6.5 months and we paid him £1000 on the 27th October! 🤡🤡

We’re ignoring it for now!

devondream · 10/11/2017 05:44

Well it looks like the screed is dry enough for tiles!!!!

Only been 6 weeks Hmm

Popped into the house yesterday as it was freezing. Still no radiators in 😡

BUT they claim next week they will start tiling and painting. I am not holding my breath.

By the way Scree stinks!!! Smell is nearly gone now it is dry. Good luck to those others waiting for their scree to be poured or dry.

Now it is a race to get it all finished for Christmas. Is that anyone else's goal?

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 07:42

Definitely mine!

I want a warm, tidy house for Christmas with a lovely new kitchen I can cook in and a Christmas tree!

whiskyowl · 10/11/2017 07:47

Bax- I wonder if we have slightly different kinds of screed! The builder mentioned you could get many kinds and maybe we had to have a specific one for underfloor heating??

Packing here today. Packing, packing, packing and - oh yes - more packing. We will now be living out of 2 rooms only. Aiiiiiiiieeeeeee.

whiskyowl · 10/11/2017 07:48

Rick - he is a cheeky fucker!! I am so angry on your behalf. Some people just can't admit they are in the wrong.

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 08:17

Whisky I know!

He's really showing his true colours now! Has he not made our lives miserable enough over the last nearly 7 months?

Baxdream · 10/11/2017 09:04

We aren’t having underfloor heating so you might be right!

Our builder said last night that we are through the worst and everything moving forward is an improvement!

Here it is

Home extensions 2017- the one where all builders are dickheads.
Baxdream · 10/11/2017 09:04

Ps I am hoping ours is done for Christmas too!

TeamRick · 10/11/2017 09:43

Wow looks amazing Bax!

Baxdream · 10/11/2017 09:45

We are changing the windows in the current house (and the awful door). Eventually we’ll even take the fence down but it keeps the site secure 😂

Thanks, indoors is a dusty mess!

DustandRubble · 10/11/2017 09:52

My splashback sample arrived and is very disappointing. The white is more grey and there isn’t enough contrast, it just looks in shadow. Boo.

Bax that is brilliant!

We are behind behind behind. Builders may be working over the weekend to get the cursed columns in. We may or may not be moving out for a week next week, I don’t want to spend £££ on a temporary home if they turn out to not be ready to do the work. Decision to be made this afternoon.

Baxdream · 10/11/2017 09:54

Dust we moved out for a week (moved back in last night) and I have to say it was so worth it! The progress this week is unbelievable!
Apparently we had 18 workmen on site Tuesday 😂

DustandRubble · 10/11/2017 10:15

I’n fine with moving out, it’s just I want to be sure we are out at the right time! They really want us out while they are putting in the top RSJ as they have to cut into the room where the kids sleep and generally it is a a bit of a big & messy job. I just want to be sure they are ready to do that so we don’t end up having to extend our stay!

whiskyowl · 10/11/2017 13:49

rick - he truly is. His behaviour is plain disgraceful. How do people like that sleep at night?

My heart really goes out to you. It's making me all the more grateful that our builder is (so far) OK. He keeps trying to find ways of saving me a bit of cash - so far we are £1200 under budget. Fingers crossed it stays that way, as we don't have tons of contingency!

dust - Keeping my fingers crossed you get a clear steer about when to move. It's very anxiety-provoking when you just don't know! I actually wish we were moving out... the reality of living in 2 rooms is starting to sink in. I have packed most of the upstairs stuff now and everything is really horrible looking! However, I'm off to see my parents this weekend and my BIL the next (who always spoils us rotten) so there is some escape!!

bax - it's looking positively palatial! Wowzers!

devon - fingers crossed for progress next week. I gather it can take 6 weeks for screed, feels like a long time when you're living it, but at least whatever beautiful tiles you've chosen will be safe on a dry base!

DustandRubble · 10/11/2017 19:36

Right, alternative accommodation is booked for next week. I’ll have an actual oven to cook in!

Has anyone got a hob in the island, and if so what are you doing for an extractor/cooker hood? I need to choose something and I am uninspired.

devondream · 10/11/2017 20:10

Dust - I have chosen a hob on the island ... instead of an overhead extractor it has a small grill in the middle of the hob and a carbon extractor under in a cupboard. It means you don't need an overhead fan. I am pretty excited about it!!!!

Will try to find a photo.

DustandRubble · 10/11/2017 20:13

Ah yes, I have seen those devon. We don’t really want to lose cupboard space as our kitchen isn’t that big. I looked at the downdraft ones that rise up as well. Builder has suggested we get one flush with the ceiling if I don’t like the big hang down ones.

HideHide · 10/11/2017 20:15

Oh he really takes the biscuit! It does make you wonder if they’ve been allowed to get away with stuff like this before?! Unbelievable

I finally have my flooring in and next week is looking like last of the plumbing getting done (downstairs loo and limes scale inhibitor installation)
Still got to wait until Dec 7th for Kitchen install then Decorator BUT, Christmas finish line (and tree! And working cooking area!) is not untenable now!!
