@Titsywoo big hallway sounds great! We’ve added a porch but left the front door as is so the hallway won’t be big which a tiny part of me is wondering if we will regret that.

I’m picking the last few things now - floor for the utility (any suggestions anyone, am thinking roll vinyl?), utility room tap and porch light. Next task is furniture but will wait until we have the place done then can choose.

Titsywoo · 11/11/2017 22:37

That's the hallway (the wall to the left will be broken through at the end), one of the bedrooms and the shower room. Hard to get good pics with my phone!

Big hallways are ace.

We had builders here today doing something. They just quietly got on with it so I am not sure what. I can’t talk to builders on the weekend.

I still cannot find a cooker hood I like that doesn’t cost upwards of £1.5k. DH says he does like the big chimney ones so maybe I should just let him pick.

DustandRubble · 11/11/2017 22:38

That is FAB titAtwoo

Cheers Dust! I'm really pleased with it all so far. I was worried it was going to feel smaller than I was hoping for but it really hasn't!

What cooker hoods are you looking at?! I thought ours was expensive at £400 Grin.

DustandRubble · 11/11/2017 22:52

It certainly doesn’t look small!

I am just looking at island hoods, they are vastly expensive compared to ones that go on a wall. I realise I could just change where the hob goes but I want my hob in my island!

Whattodowithaminute · 12/11/2017 07:31

dust have you looked at westin and elica hoods? Both have been recommended elsewhere on MN previously

Humptynumpty02 · 12/11/2017 07:38

Is that a new staircase Titsywoo? If so, how disruptive was the removing of the old abd how long did the new one take to go in?

Baxdream · 12/11/2017 08:26

Great photos! Love a grand hallway!

Our builders have had the weekend off, well deserved after a busy week! We’re currently living with a temporary kitchen and radiators in the bedrooms and lounge only.

Our knock through is all done but we’ve had them blocked up whilst the screed is drying.

Here’s some photos including our new room with dressing room and ensuite (it’s huge!)

I’m glad everyone has had a productive weekend! Looking forward to seeing your Hague blue island!

Does anyone have any recommendations for quartz worktops companies?

Fourmagpies · 12/11/2017 11:32

Bax we've got our quartz from a company called Yes Granite in Northants. They were really good, price seems competitive. Someone I know used them and were really pleased. We haven't had it fitted yet but so far so good.

We've started painting the utility. I underestimated how much paint newly plastered walls would need so just did a quick dash to Homebase for more.

whatashower · 12/11/2017 12:16

four magpies did you seal the plaster in a dilute wash "mist coat" first? (worried question!)

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/11/2017 13:56

I love the big hallways and ensuites! New build houses built by developers always have mean little hallways and ensuites (so they can squeeze in more bedrooms naturally) so it’s nice to see them properly done in your new houses. Makes the whole home feel more spacious and luxurious. More grand designs, less Barrat homes! Grin

Peanuts79 · 12/11/2017 14:50

Wow! The photos are amazing - definitely no small spaces to be seen. Loving all the progress. Most of you are a few weeks ahead of us so really great seeing the progress.

po.st/VrbZD7 - I don't know how to make clicky but this was from ideal homes last year with some great alternative island extractors.

I think our plasterer comes tomorrow, not all the plasterboard is up yet but hoping he can still make a start. Stairs should be in this week too!! Kitchen ordered for 27th Nov with worktop templating a week after - think may be pushing it but beyond excited!!

Fourmagpies · 12/11/2017 18:02

Yes whatashower we did!

Baxdream · 12/11/2017 18:47

Has everyone got matching appliances? I really want a neff oven but I’m wondering whether to get a cheaper induction job!

Baxdream · 12/11/2017 18:48

Hob!

Believeitornot · 12/11/2017 19:07

We’ve got a neff hob and oven. But we didn’t match last time - there’s no real reason for them to match in brand.
But I wouldn’t get a cheap induction job - it would drive you made for something you use daily if it wasn’t great!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/11/2017 19:13

My friend has top end Miele matching appliances and a huge induction hob. I must say they all look very swish. I don’t have matching appliances and an aga, I’m a bit jealous of her set up!

Titsywoo · 12/11/2017 19:26

It is humpty but we never had staircase before as we live in a bungalow! It took about 2 weeks for it to be made then he bought it in the house in pieces so only took 2 days to fit. I would assume less time if you just have a straight staircase as our one turns at the top and bottom and has a mini landing before the top turn.

DustandRubble · 12/11/2017 19:26

We have gone for a Neff oven but AEG hob as we preferred the look. Also the swanky Neff hob was £1k and didn’t have much to justify the extra price tag.

Titsywoo · 12/11/2017 19:27

Very jealous of your dressing room Bax! We are getting a good size ensuite but no room for anything else. Your house is looking amazing :)

Titsywoo · 12/11/2017 19:29

We didn't bother to match appliances but we have a range cooker so all in one and everything else is integrated (except the fridge/freezer which is a big American job). I would only go for matching if they were all showing on one wall IYSWIM?

Baxdream · 12/11/2017 22:08

That’s reassuring I think I’ll get neff oven and microwave oven and then a cheaper hob (but not too cheap)!

Thanks we purposely went for a big master bedroom. It could be split into two if we ever move!
