Whisky, depends on the type of screed. Some are faster drying. Big industrial fans can help but the most important thing is to wait until it’s thoroughly ready. I know, it’s literally like watching paint dry!

Baxdream · 07/11/2017 20:26

Well done teamrick for locking them out! You must feel so much better to finally have the upper hand!

When does the screed go down? We have windows but no screed or mention of it?!
We have one more knock through tomorrow to get into our snug then our knock through are done.

We’ve been asked about our stud-walls upstairs tonight so I wonder if that’s happening tomorrow.

Gorgeous tiles monkey!

buckeejit · 07/11/2017 20:47

TeamRick-you have the heart of a lion!

Defo go to small claims with him-I took some builders there when I was still a teenager & though initially terrifying, I won as was so in the right & they were a bunch of tossers, (they were doing neighbourhood regeneration near my office & splattered cement over my old banger car). They accepted responsibility initially & then didn’t follow through fixing my car-were very dismissive of me as a young girl which enraged me greatly & cost them dearly in the end!!

Monkey-love those tiles.

My electrician is coming on Friday, whoop whoop! £750+vat seems a lot for one days work though (small town NI) 🙄

Pp asking about kickboard drawers-any good kitchen people should do them though mine didn’t offer but was happy to oblige when I asked! Great space saving for trays/Christmas stuff/stash of new bling film/tin foil etc.

One other tip on kitchens-we had picked a couple of Farrow & Ball shades for kitchen& island but there didn’t seem enough of a contrast so I messaged them on Facebook for advice, telling them the kitchen shade, showing the wooden floor we’ve picked & what direction windows face. They were so helpful & advised on alternative shades for the island which were so much better when tested so worth a go for free!

buckeejit · 07/11/2017 21:29

Meant to say out plinth drawers are about £60 IIRC

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/11/2017 21:34

I’m watching grand designs house of the year. They make it look so easy Hmm

TeamRick · 07/11/2017 22:24

Whatthefox amazing weren't they and yes obviously no Twatchops builders! 😬

TeamRick · 07/11/2017 22:27

Thanks for the reassurance Monkey & that gin & tonic looks very tempting! The tiles look amazing!

It's odd being shot of him, I keep worrying that nothing is happening but nothing was happening anyway!!!!

whiskyowl · 08/11/2017 08:59

I am 40 today. I feel sad about it but everyone is being lovely and I am getting spoiled rotten with presents so my mood is improving!

Screed is going down and the electrician is here fitting a fuse box. Feels like a Day of Progress! :)

Baxdream · 08/11/2017 09:18

Happy birthday whisky!

Sounds like you have a productive day ahead!

Tatlerer · 08/11/2017 09:56

Happy birthday whisky! Wineand Cakefor you!
Glorious tiles monkey, I think they set off the colour of the units fabulously. Waves to everyone else!

whatashower · 08/11/2017 10:26

Love the tiles monkey.

Whiskyowl please don’t feel sad. I am a lot older and life is great.

Although I wouldn’t mind less chin hair 🤣

Happy birthday!

Fourmagpies · 08/11/2017 15:02

Happy birthday whisky! Wine Cake

When I left this morning the electricians were second fixing the extension and first fixing the kitchen. I've spent the day avoiding going home, ending up in Costa with my laptop. It's not a good time to be working from home! I can't wait to have the house back to normal, whatever normal will be Smile

Baxdream · 08/11/2017 15:22

We have screed going down on Friday so it dries over the weekend! Is this possible?

Whattodowithaminute · 08/11/2017 16:20

Happy birthday whisky good progress bax and four. I’ve contacted 3 more builders today for quotes as mine has gone off the radar...

Believeitornot · 08/11/2017 16:45

Happy Birthday whisky! Hope you’ve got some lovely plans.

Kitchen sink arrived yesterday. Looks massive. Just about to hit the pay button on kitchen lights.

I’m just waiting for the kitchen to arrive now. Can’t wait.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 08/11/2017 17:04

I have to look at kitchen appliances so I can decide whether I want to get them through the kitchen supplier or separately. Anyone got an oven they love? Also induction hob. We want a double oven but they suggested we get a single and a combi oven/microwave for the second to save space. Any thoughts on that?

Baxdream · 08/11/2017 20:33

dust we are getting a single neff oven and microwave oven.

I popped into the house earlier as the builders were leaving 😂 it was nearly 530pm to be fair!

I just can’t believe how much has happened this week! Today they have:
Knocked through into what will be our snug
Put the steel in for our second set of bifolds
Connected the new boiler (we have heating again!)
And, done the stud work for ensuite and dressing room.

I actually love our builders!

EmmaCB1 · 08/11/2017 21:23

Dust We have gone for two single ovens and a separate microwave and love the flexibility. One is self cleaning which I’m using for messy foods like roasts and grills and the other is for cakes etc. They are stacked. They both have steam options which I haven’t tried yet and not sure I will. They are AEG. The only thing I don’t like are the timers which take ages to set and I’m using my iphone instead.

EmmaCB1 · 08/11/2017 21:33

For people thinking about glass splashbacks we are using Clear Glass and have been impressed with their service so far, although it hasn’t been fitted yet and I’m having a wobble on the colour so going back on Saturday to look again at options. clearglass.org.uk/ They are based just outside Cambridge and I’m not sure what geographical area they cover.

TeamRick · 08/11/2017 21:50

Hopefully the last ever twatchops update!

DH put the bags of plaster outside this am & text him to tell him they were there!

Response ‘ that will need covering up as I don’t know if I’ll get round today’

Honestly! No please or thank you ! 😡😡😡

That from ‘Buckinghamshire’s trusted choice for Building and Carpentry’

Meh!

Chickencellar · 08/11/2017 22:06

Grin looked at his website !

DustandRubble · 08/11/2017 22:09

Twatchops will not be sadly missed. I hope his plaster turns to mush.

Thanks for oven suggestions. Have decided to go with the Neff ones from the kitchen people. They will match price, which is handy.

Now to look at the fridge freezer selection.

TeamRick · 09/11/2017 08:51

Spoke too soon! The cheeky b*stard has sent us an invoice!
