What would £120,000 buy where you live?

We're planning to buy an investment property this summer and have £120,000 to spend. We've been looking in the area where family live but it's commuter belt and houses are snapped up. Can you inspire me with what this would buy in your area? We live abroad so no ties in terms of area.

A garage. That's about it round here.

schmalex · 21/06/2015 14:45

Nothing. Maybe a garage.

OhHolyFuck · 21/06/2015 14:46

this

Something like this www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-34074096.html

GreatJoanUmber · 21/06/2015 14:47

You'd get a small 1 bed flat in my area! Clearly I'm living further out than the 2 PPs Grin

SmallMustard · 21/06/2015 14:47

2 bed flat

Probably in need of modernisation, it's hard to tell as it's very cluttered - both with interesting clutter :)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/06/2015 14:47

Garage.

SmallMustard · 21/06/2015 14:47

*but not both

WhatsGoingOnEh · 21/06/2015 14:48

A half-share in a flat, or a mobile home. (Berkshire.)

A tidy 3 bedroom terraced or semi in South Wales. Could rent it at £430 to £450 a month easy. With money left over.

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/06/2015 14:49

3 bed terrace with garden in immaculate condition in a good Street/road, or a semi with drive in need of a lot of work.
You could afford my house with £10k to spare Grin.

FadedRed · 21/06/2015 14:50

Depends where you want to live - in the city or small town in the county?
In the city (I live in village suburb) it would buy 2 bed flat in city centre or 2-3 bed terrace or semi in outskirts. In county you could get 3 bed semi in smaller town. None would be in 'best areas' iyswim, but not in 'worst' areas either. I live in the midlands.

goodasitgets · 21/06/2015 14:52

Just over but my neighbours house Grin

Dansak · 21/06/2015 14:53

That would get you a nice two up two down terrace in south Manchester with a small garden. They rent out really easily too.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 21/06/2015 14:54

We live in a village between an expensive town (the closer town) and a much cheaper town.

In the expensive town £120k would buy you this.

In the cheaper town it would buy you this.

Quite a difference as you can see! In our village specifically this is the cheapest property on the market at the moment.

PullMySocksUp · 21/06/2015 14:54

Thanks everyone, very interesting. It's an investment FadedRed so we wouldn't live in it.

Nothing. There's a one bed nearby for sale at 330k. Crazy.

Lj8893 · 21/06/2015 14:57

Nothing except shared ownership properties. Could get a decent 3 bed SO house though.

Milliways · 21/06/2015 14:58

A 1 bed rietirement flat is all I could find near here

GemmaTeller · 21/06/2015 14:58

very pleasant

VenusRising · 21/06/2015 14:59

A parking space.

scarlets · 21/06/2015 14:59

Nothing in my part of Wales. However, you could get a small, modern link house in Bridgend (CF31) where the rental market is strong - more tenants than stock, I'm told.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 21/06/2015 15:00

It would buy a nice terraced or semi three bed or possibly small four bed.

I don't think my three bed terrace would quite fetch that much. I live just south of Glasgow.
