Surrey has everything a woman of a certain class could ask for. Surrey is home to the top private primary schools in Britain, beautiful golf and tennis clubs, riding facilities, forests, hills, superb shopping in towns like Guildford, Godalming and Dorking, haute cuisine dining in restaurants for every taste, quick and easy train access to the City, Holborn, Bloomsbury or Harley Street if DH is employed in finance, the bar, academia or medicine. Simply paradise. I couldn't imagine why any woman who has been blessed with bounty could want to reside anywhere else.

Haven't read the whole thread, but am just a little too excited to see there are MNers near me - I live very very close to Weybridge and Addlestone which have been mentioned - no-one I know is on MN so am pleased to see there are at least some nearby :)

Well in my opinion this is where Berkshire wins again?..Reading beats Guildford and Basingstoke for a good shop hands down.

But Reading is horrible.

Guildford is quite a sad town. The Friary is like a ghost all empty and abandoned. Weirdly all the designer high-end shops are still there though....

I prefer Windsor. I always get lost when I go to Reading.

You can shag gardens only in Surrey, other counties its just not allowed. I have cycled through parts of surrey and wasn't very taken with it as a county - prefer Yorkshire, Cornwall or Dorset as a top three counties for beauty and friendly people

Surely if one is going to shop, one travels to London. My people might have been priced out of Kensington and Chelsea by Tel Aviv property speculators, Russian oligarchs, Chinese gazillionaires and crass Texas oil men, but we still control what the merchants have on offer in South Kensington. The train from Godalming into London every day has many a Surrey woman, both young and old, seeking nothing but the finest quality merchandise in the old neighbourhood.
