Surrey has everything a woman of a certain class could ask for. Surrey is home to the top private primary schools in Britain, beautiful golf and tennis clubs, riding facilities, forests, hills, superb shopping in towns like Guildford, Godalming and Dorking, haute cuisine dining in restaurants for every taste, quick and easy train access to the City, Holborn, Bloomsbury or Harley Street if DH is employed in finance, the bar, academia or medicine. Simply paradise. I couldn't imagine why any woman who has been blessed with bounty could want to reside anywhere else.

You great! And where does one dine on an evening?

PST7777 · 21/07/2011 18:50

I have never heard of a middle-class, much less an upper middle-class Scouser. Time for you and the rest of your lot to start removing that 100 stone Irish-Catholic bitter complex chip off your shoulders, dear. That act started wearing thin since Messrs. Lennon, McCartney, Starkey and Harrison found their pot of gold and moved their Scouser Leprochaun show to Surrey many years ago.

Oh and you do public transport Grin

One should know only a door to door service by the chauffer is acceptable.

BadBagel · 21/07/2011 19:12

The old neighbourhood :o

Wait till the Russians and Chinese discover Surrey.....

BitOfFun · 21/07/2011 19:56

Eh? I haven't got a chip on my shoulder about anything. But I'm interested in your theory- do expand.

pepperrabbit · 21/07/2011 20:02

It's ok ladies, I've got this covered.

Ahem,

VivaLeBeaver · 21/07/2011 20:03

When did the Beatles move to Surrey? Macca lives in Suusex, Harrison lived in Oxfordshire, Ringo Starr lives in LA and Lennon lived in New York. Am confused who went to Surrey?

Cocoflower · 21/07/2011 20:03

Im quite missing the op though.

She is like a Little Britain sketch.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/07/2011 20:05

Cocoflower · 21/07/2011 20:09

Cocoflower · 21/07/2011 20:15

But Luke was always so akward and grumpy!

Jojocat · 21/07/2011 20:23

PST Surely Peter Jones, Chelsea is THE place to shop?

Guildford could really do with a John Lewis.

headfairy · 21/07/2011 20:24

Shall we have a Surrey meet up so we can compare bank accounts stories? :o I'm in Reigate and I'm considerably richer than yoooowwww

Cocoflower · 21/07/2011 20:27

Jojocat you are a genuis!

Yes it does need a John Lewis I was thinking the same a few months ago.

Reigate is lovely, and you probably are richer if you live there!

visavis · 21/07/2011 21:31

Interesting that your original post said "private primary schools". If you knew anything about the private (and public) school system, you would know that these are prep and pre-prep schools

VivaLeBeaver · 21/07/2011 21:41

I thought that visavis.

visavis · 21/07/2011 21:45

Riveninside - your post this morning about Surrey being full of people who can't afford London. Certainly this is what my (very snobbish) MIL thinks. She would never consider the home counties (which is where we live - NOT surrey!!) She considers Surrey extremely provincial. It is fine to have a country property - but not live in Surrey (terrible I know.....)

visavis · 21/07/2011 21:55

Agreed - I was just saying that generally they are not known as "primary" - prep and pre-prep (and then some private senior schools are known as public). I was just questioning whether the OP had any knowledge of this - as being "in that system" - I wouldn't ever refer to it in that way. It is all very funny - I suspect the OP is having a good time posting - it may well be research for a book.

Cocoflower · 21/07/2011 21:58

Now Im convinced the OP is actually Matt Lucas or David Walliams getting new material.

Must be.

malinois · 22/07/2011 10:41

PST777:

I'm curious. Do you ride with the Union or the Chidd and Lec?

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 22/07/2011 11:02

Hmmm ...

PST7777 · 22/07/2011 14:25

Listen, people reside in the Home Counties because they generally need quick access to London. Obviously, some of the more rural counties of England such as beautiful Dorset, Devon, (not conviced about Cornwall or Somerset), Gloucestershire, Wiltshire are indeed lovely; however, they are rural areas and that is why they are TOURIST FRIENDLY! People actually live in Surrey, NOBODY SUMMERS IN SURREY! Hence, the lack of tourism and tourist attractions. Nevertheless, there is no better quality of life for somebody LIVING in a place in England than Surrey. This has been studied and researched to death. Any number of articles printed in such quality periodicals as the Telegraph and the Daily Mail have covered this topic extensively. It wasn't Buckinghamshire, it wasn't Oxfordshire (which I vehemently disagree with some people insistance that it is is a Home County--it's not!). it wasn't Hertfordshire, it wasn't Kent, and it wasn't @Royal' Berkshire designated as the county in England offering the best quality of life for a family, IT WAS SURREY! Yes, the county so many of you self-loathing middle-class limousine liberal, North London Guardianista types and northern, chip-on-your-shoulder working-class red socialists love to hate.

I'm sorry if it disappoints you that a largely native English, upper-middle-class, Protestant, Tory voting dominated area like Surrey offers the kind of lifestyle that so many of you angry London, middle-class urban dwellers, and woeful, working-class, rustbelt dwelling Northerners can only dream of, but that's life.

Get over it.
