Will they put DC up a year?

My dc has just started in reception in a private school, due to having younger sibling and me not returning to work, they didn't attend nursery. DC is very bright for their age, even when looking around private schools this was commented on, along with other parents stating this. They are reading and writing and adding and subtracting already and they are a late summer baby. I don't say this to boast, but to give context. Anyway, they have been at school for a week and we've had the plan for the rest of the month and none of it will stretch my DC. Am I being ridiculous to ask if they will put DC up a year? Or should I just wait and see and ask for some stretch/challenge tasks?

I don't think it is that unusual in either state or private schools for a few kids to be at a similar level to your child when they start reception, my daughter certainly was and by about Christmas the school will start to work out the best thing for these children.. for my daughter it was accelerated smaller groups for certain subjects, reading at the level she was individually assessed at etc. Your son sounds fab but really not that out of the ordinary and I would just let it play out for now, certainly for longer than a week 🤣. There will be some things covered in reception that he will simply miss out on if he went on a year, that may shape his future learning.

@OP
Problem is that English schools will not allow jumping because the system itself is inculcated and outdated. You need to look to US or French schools to jump a year. It is not uncommon in the US, and many kids are successful. Don't worry about those doomsayers who like to lecture their nonsense, eventually it is about your child and yourself.
