What is your opinion? If your child attends a private school and you noticed their teacher had tattoos up arms etc….

Would It bother you? Non offensive tattoos.

No.

It does bother me. I'm aware it's now an old fashioned view but I preferred it when teachers/doctors/nurses/police etc were expected to keep tattoos covered at work.

Am sure it doesn't impact their skill level but it does look scruffy 9/10 times. (I am being generous as I am not sure it ever looks good tbh).

Nothing to do with whether it is a private school though.

I agree with you. In a professional setting it indicates a lack of seriousness; that the person displaying their tattoos is more interested in their own appearance than in fulfilling a serious role. No professional should be employed with permanently visible tattoos (face, neck, hands), and displaying tattoos that can be covered should result in a written warning for the first infraction, and dismissal for any further offences. I have 33 tattoos (none permanently visible). I never display them at work. The West is in a rapid decline; visible tattoos in professional roles are only one symptom of the disaster.

would absolutely not care unless it was fabulous and they I'd compliment her/him.

Miaminmoo · 04/03/2026 19:04

My DC go to an Independent school and one of their teachers has loads of tattoos and also hair shaved underneath and tattoos on her scalp. No, it doesn’t bother me, why would it? She’s an excellent teacher and is allowed to be an individual. I can’t even consider why you would ask this? She leads all the D of E expeditions in her free time as well as she loves hiking and camping.

Ladygardenerinderby · 04/03/2026 19:04

Why I’m confused it doesn’t affect her ability to teach does it ? I had a major op three years ago and one of the doctors operating had tattoos which we had a real good natter about I didn’t fear for him cutting me open because he had some very nice artwork

Oh my god, "The West is in decline"???

Astounding.

Pres11 · 04/03/2026 19:11

Not in the slightest because it wouldn’t affect their ability! It’s just a personal choice, like hair colour, length, beard, no beard, long nails, short nails!! Personal preference!

MiloMinderbinder · 04/03/2026 19:15

I gave up on that one years ago: tats are everywhere. On the face would be a red line for me, but then some original people women - with or without PhDs - are seen with chin tattoos or, in Africa, with decoratively scarred faces.

TheYetty · 04/03/2026 19:26

I find tattoos revolting. Yes it would bother me. I'm not sure what I would do about it if everything else was in order.

Mylifesadrama · 04/03/2026 19:33

What have tattoos got to do with her teaching ability is the question you should ask yourself!

Xenia · 04/03/2026 20:00

It would bother me.

Why does it make a difference that they’re a private school teacher?

This would be my question.

ScartlettSole · 04/03/2026 21:29

I'm a teacher and have tattoos. They have absolutely no bearing on my ability to do my job. Which anyone with half a brain would know.

Op Does this bother you more because it’s a private school does it make you think they don’t belong there? The image the present isn’t what you expect. I can imagine you would accept it more in a public school.

ScartlettSole · 04/03/2026 21:36

surrealpotato · 03/03/2026 21:08

Well, yes. With the implication being that OP (and people who disagree with you) are 'idiots'.

They are though? As well as being judgemental and incredibly shallow.

Don't be ridiculous. It's not 'judgemental' or shallow to expect certain standards or professionalism in certain areas of life. I say this as someone with arm tattoos.

Adding hypocritical to that list now too.

Well no, I'd cover them up for any professional role. Obviously. No one is judging someone for having them in the first place. Well, I'm not.

What a strange post.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 05/03/2026 01:36

Get with it. You are very much in the.minority. If you don't have head to toe tattoos.. People think there is something wrong with you.

I'm just waiting for dogs and other pets to have tattoos.

So.their owners can compete with each other about whose pet is the most inked.

Nobody's saying they affect ability to do the job. It's that they mostly look tacky and unprofessional (and blue and smudgy.) That's why they are asked to be covered in many roles.

Chickadee001 · 05/03/2026 05:25

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, why would it bother you?

Luxurylifequeen · 05/03/2026 06:00

It’s DISGUSTING AND IMMORAL.

no unmarried spinsters without kids or one playing house with an out of wedlock baby either. No divorced either. In my time divorce was not an option.

they better not be women too. Women’s job is to stay home barefoot and pregnant. The only females I would allow is widowers
