My PPPPFB DD1 is starting "big" school on Monday

Anyone else?

Am I going to be a blubbing wreck?

Oh I've just found this thread- started one myself this morning- PFB starts tomorrow and I'm howling already. Can't help but worry about how i'll cope- she on the other hand will be fine

aGalChangedHerName · 17/08/2009 16:34

I will be taking a picture on my phone tomorrow of dd1 in her uniform and sending it to ds1 (nearly 18) who is on holiday with his gf atm and is gutted to be missing her 1st day of school and dd2's 1st day at nursery

Told him not to worry as he can do the school/ nursery run for me on his days off lol

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 16:45

Well, that's DD1 all ready. I hung her uniform on the back of her bedroom door, including white knee socks. Her blue cardigan to wear over her logo top as it is chilly in the mornings here now. Her blue skirt all ironed.

Her black Start Rite shoes with her name in them.

Her PE kit packed and her change bag with her sunscreen and pencils, all labelled up.

Packed DD2's change bag for nursery, too. Spare outfit and knickers in case of the worst (she's only 3).

The camera is charged up and in my handbag.

Am getting a bit snivelly.

HaggisNeepsnTatties · 17/08/2009 16:50

Aaggh...I knew I had forgotten someting - suncream. Thanks Expat! Will get some this week.

Have been having a clear out of both dds clothes, trying to sort for charity shop. Some stuff hardly worn, some not at all. It's in bags but I am so rubbish at actually taking them to the shop that they will probably sit there for ages....

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 16:51

Oh, DD1 definitely needs her suncream. She's already freckling. .

HaggisNeepsnTatties · 17/08/2009 17:02

At what age do freckles appear? I am a red head (bottle blonde now) and have always had freckles as far as I can remember. Dd2 is 2.6 - mass of red curls.....is she likely to get freckles??

shootfromthehip · 17/08/2009 18:05

Haggis- I'm the freckliest woman I know although I'm a brunette- DD at 5.4 (blond) has none, DS (ginger strawberry blond God love him) is 2.7 and he just got freckles this summer. Not as many as me right enough and I had freckles from really young- 2+.

I will not be packing suncream for DD tomorrow as the forecast is crap for her first day!!!

Expat- we did the uniform hanging on the wardrobe earlier too right to the socks. Also charged the camera earlier . Whereabouts are you- we are Perthshire/ Stirling way? Nearly everyone else I know has already started.

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 18:30

She didn't start getting freckles until she was about 4, Haggis. She's got that chesnut-coloured hair that goes streaky blonde and strawberry blonde in bright sunlight.

We're in Argyll and Bute council, shoot.

My SIL is in Edinburgh and hers don't go back until Wednesday.

I've been reading this thread with interest. How I wish I'd known about Mumsnet (and had a computer in the house!)when DD started P1 - thought I was the only worried/stressed/emotional mum then!

DD starts P5 tomorrow and reading this has made me feel slightly more excited than usual

Just done a food shop and saw lots of mums pondering the snack/lunch box options and wondered if any of them were MNers

Hope it goes well for everyone and their DCs this week

brokenspacebar · 17/08/2009 21:08

I sent dh out for playpiece (snacks), still swithering about what to give ds, he is only in until 12.15, but I am worried he will get very hungry, but I don't want him still eating when playtime finishes...oh god I am so nervous it is pathetic lol.

I am not sure whether to send gym kit in tmrw or not... his letter doesn't say they need it to begin with.

aGalChangedHerName · 17/08/2009 21:31

I am not sending gym kit in till they let me know when it is. Enough in the bag so remember/organise lol

Lindax · 17/08/2009 21:44

Gal, loads of kids, including ds, took gym bags in today, and they all brought them back home again - school not ready for them, not planning to take back in until he's in full days.

We dont get to take them into classroom and settle them tomorrow, its line up in the playground then in by themselves, hope it goes okay.......

Goodluck to everyone who starts tomorrow!

sweetkitty · 17/08/2009 21:46

DD1 and 2 got a few freckles this year, I have quite a few and DP has loads, they haven't said anything to us about sunscreen but since the 3 days of Summer are over here theres probably no need, more chance of rickets than sunburn!

DD1 has announced they have gym tomorrow so needs her gym bag, am also giving her a yoghurt bar and some raisins for playpiece and a bottle of water.

expat - all sorted by the time out thirds go we will be so chilled.

potpourri - glad everything went well with your DD agree it was too much fuss for some of the LOs, one Mum was running after her DD with the video camera constantly.

sweetkitty, gym on second day! how long is dd in for? our are only in for 2 hours tomorrow, can you image getting 20+ 4-5yr olds changed for gym and back into school uniform again in that time!

need to quiz ds nightly to make sure he tells me if they do do gym while on 1/2 days as he is not likely to remember to tell me!

She is in 9-12.15 up until sept weekend

The teacher was giving some parents a row for not labelling their blazers thats one thing that should be labelled their jackets can you imagine 20 4-5yos trying to put on each others jackets?

aimsmum - fine and nothing standard responses

I had a hell of a time labelling her PE bag! I wound up using a fabric pen - you know, the kind where you can paint on fabric.

Fortunately, we have a surname no one else in the school has, and for purposes of hopefully passing on some things I used just the surname to label.

KristinaM · 17/08/2009 22:43

for naming items i use a pen called a laundry marker which doesn't wash out

74p from wh smith

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 22:45

yeah, i use the Sharpie laundry marker mostly. but this wasn't like normal cloth and also navy blue.

i have sticker tags for stuff like their suncream.

but on all the clothes i didn't bother sewing on tags - i can hardly thread a needle.

KristinaM · 17/08/2009 23:13

sounds like you need these iron on name tapes, expat

i don't sew either, i am bone idle too busy

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 23:25

the iron-on tapes just fall off.

that's why it's the Sharpie pen except for that bag i couldn't use it on.

KristinaM · 17/08/2009 23:52

bugger

aGalChangedHerName · 18/08/2009 06:55

Oh god todays the day!!!

I have butterflies already

Bot sure what to put in for her playpiece yet,she wants a fruit school bar thingy but can't always manage to open them... May put into a freezer bag already opened.

DH wanted to come and see her in but work calls. Good job really as he's more likely to blub than me lol. My best friend who was my birth partner for both dd's is coming round with us so dd1 will be happy with that.

Hope you lot are all organised and your lo's enjoy their first day at primary school x

shootfromthehip · 18/08/2009 07:08

Good luck today everyone. DD is in from 9.30am 'til 3pm. 9-3 tomorrow.

They obviously like to show no mercy here!

I've sniffed a couple of times already this morning will have the waterproof mascara on for later.

aGalChangedHerName · 18/08/2009 07:38

DD is only in from 10am till 12.40 for the next couple of weeks

Whereabouts are you shoot? I don't know of anyone who starts full time right away.
