My PPPPFB DD1 is starting "big" school on Monday

Anyone else?

Am I going to be a blubbing wreck?

Are you all organised?

Mind sharing the list of things you have purchased? I might need to go and buy ds a new raincoat... but I think we have everything else. School uniform, jumpers etc, can't be collected until Monday.

My ds has two weeks of half days, he had two years at nursery in the school, but he really can't comprehend school yet, though the school have tried hard to get him used to the idea - he has speech and language delay/social communication disorder(no formal diagnosis yet)... I am worried about how he will be with full days, just hoping he copes!

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 12/08/2009 13:17

Organised? Well I though I was. Just laid out uniforms and discovered ds2's tie is missing and DS1's blazer is all of a sudden too small.

Back off down the school shop to see if they have anything left....

Chrysanthemum5 · 12/08/2009 13:28

I also thought I was organised, but tried DS's trousers on him and realised they were far far far too big. They really didn't look that big in the shop! So now I have to get DH's aunt to come over to turn them up because I'm useless at sewing.

Tamarto · 12/08/2009 13:38

Me!!

DD starts primary one on Tuesday, i have two Dss going into P6 and P3 you'd think i was used to it by now, but i'm going to cry i want to cry even thinking about it.

sweetkitty · 12/08/2009 16:35

I am all organised now, just got to sew on school badge to blazer and the name tags to do.

weegiemum · 12/08/2009 16:43

I still have nametags to do on new skirts and trousers, but that is about it I reckon.

They are all actually quite excited about going back and seeing friends again etc - as mine go to a specialist school (Glasgow Gaelic) their friends are from all over the city, not just down the road.

sweetkitty · 12/08/2009 16:56

DD1 already knows most of her class, about 8 of them were at nursery with her so she is excited about seeing her wee friends again although her best friends are of course going to another school.

Tamarto · 12/08/2009 17:34

Nametags. that is what i haven't done, that'll be my enjoyment tonight then.

DD doesn't know anyone in her class but she made friends with a few children in the year above through her brother as he was in a composite class last year.

sweetkitty · 12/08/2009 19:31

I got a special kit from a MN advertiser, iron on tags, sticky tags, shoe tags the works as DD1 is bound to come home minus something in the first week.

brokenspacebar list of what I've purchased?

I'm a bit neurotic about being prepared for every eventuality (especially as he is going into P1 and I'm not sure what the other kids will be wearing - poloshirts, sweatshirts, V-neck jumpers or shirt/ties - too many choices!) and have been buying bits and pieces of things he doesnt really need over the last couple of months.

Totted it all up today and have spent over £300 on his uniform and other extravangances essentials like personalised (normal AND colouring) pencils

This doesnt even include a blazer!

Tell me (so I can tell DH) I'm not the worst - who's spent more? What have you bought that you know is a complete waste of money?

This does also include daft things essentials like all day suncream/sunhat/3 pairs of school shorts (have you seen the weather recently?) and a blow up banana guard - Although I have managed to resist spending £15 on a MN recommended Sigg water bottle so far - I really do need professional help!!!!!!!!!!!!

sweetkitty · 12/08/2009 22:56

OMG Lindax I have worked out I have spent £150 tops and that includes blazer and shoes and plimsolls from Clarks, oh haven't included the rainjacket I bought this morning or her winter jacket yet. £15 for a water bottle DD1 bites the tops off hers and will lose it within a week. Blow up banana guard DD1 hates bananas

DD1 has a new pink 101 dalmatians pencil case purchased from the Disney Store with spotty pencils and rubber, I think it will be confiscated day 1 as she will spend too much time messing about with it to listen to the teacher.

Am worried DD1 has v short attention span

OP posts:
Ceolas · 12/08/2009 23:38

Lindax I haven't spent that on 3!

sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 09:52

Ceolas - that is because you don't have a PFB and are older and wiser to it all now.

Have put all her new itchy shirts in the washing today, will iron and sort out labels tonight

OP posts:
Ceolas · 13/08/2009 10:02

Older, yes... The shoes are a killer, but thankfully we're at the stage where they sometimes last all year.

I washed all the itchy shirts last week. Nearly finished the labels. Gosh, I hate that job!

Just need to have this baby then we're organised.

Tamarto · 13/08/2009 10:02

I've got the trip to clarks yet to come, there is nowhere else to buy decent shoes round here. That'll be more than i've spent on the rest, i got major bargains from the three for two in Marks and Spencer online with at least 10% off everything.

Ceolas · 13/08/2009 10:06

See if you can get an appointment at Clarks. We have waited hours in there over the last few weeks. Don't know where you are, but if around Glasgow, avoid Braehead and if you are anywhere near Mothercare at Anniesland, the lady there is fab

Tamarto · 13/08/2009 12:08

I love you, i've just made an appointment to save the hours and hours of waiting.

I'm in Angus so not near Braehead, but i have an appointment yay!

expatinscotland · 13/08/2009 14:55

John Lewis has a great system for shoe fittings. You got a kiosk and enter your name, how many children and their ages and they give you a time to come back.

I did iron on nametags - I barely know how to thread a needle much less sew and if you showed me a sewing machine I could plug it in and that's it - and laundry marking pen from Lakeland.

I still need trainers, but am going to Greenock tomorrow for those and that's it.

Everything washed, tagged up, ironed and hanging up with a sheet of Bounce in the wardrobe to keep it all fresh, including white socks.

They're getting their hair trimmed on Saturday, too.

Tamarto · 13/08/2009 14:57

There is no John Lewis anywhere near me.

We had the hair cut this weekend, my DD had three inches taken off.

Libra · 13/08/2009 15:00

DS2 is going into P3 on Tuesday (my baby!) So he will be one of the 'big boys' in the primary section.

DS1 is going into S4!!! But he is obviously far too cool to be excited about that. Mind you, if you creep up behind him and say 'Prelims' he goes a nasty colour...

expatinscotland · 13/08/2009 15:07

It was a real event to get to ours, Tamarto.

It's in Glasgow, technically 'only' about 70 miles away.

It took over 2 hours to get there because of roadworks on the M8 and that was even with no queue for the ferry.

But I couldn't find shoes in C and D widths here at all.

There's a very small M&S in Greenock and that's it until Glasgow.

Finding bottoms of all sorts, shorts, trousers and skirts, in navy with an adjustable waist was so nigh on impossible I ordered them in the US.

NONE of the clothes I saw in any shop including Glasgow came in navy blue AND had an adjustable waist.

DD1 is slim and tall. All the clothes are sadly now cut for only obese children.

Tamarto · 13/08/2009 15:13

I noticed that with the clothes this year too, they are all very wide, we had =to return a lot of skirts as they jkust fell down and DD isn't very skinny.

I'm lucky that my DCs have pretty average sized feet, and the clarks in Dundee is actually quite good, well compared to the local one anyway.

K999 · 13/08/2009 15:20

I have not bought one thing yet! Planning a trip to Ocean Terminal on Sat as I saw that BHS had some nice stuff. DD1 getting more blardy picky. However, am planning to drag take her there so that she can try things on! Have lost count of the number of times I have bought stuff only for her to announce that it doesnt fit (what she means is that she doesnt like it!) Have loads of skirts etc that have still got the tags on..

I am not looking forward to it but have put it off for as long as possible. She doesnt go back till the 24th anyway...
