Anyone nervous for primary school admission results?

State primary admission results are.out this week. We have to wait for a letter, how retro, as we did a paper application for a deferred Reception start (DD is 5 in July, some minor additional needs). Really really hope we get a place at the friendly local school a 5 minute walk away! Anyone else waiting and want to chew their nails with me?

Yes, I'm anxiously waiting. Fingers tightly crossed! We are well outside of catchment for the three chosen, so I'm particularly worried about that.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 14/04/2019 14:19

Yikes, what is your catchment school like? Any idea where your nearest undersubscribed school is?

SchrodingersBrexit · 14/04/2019 15:08

Well, I've moved house so in application terms I'm in no mans land, really. The schools close by are all 6-1 over subscribed so we shall see!

Do you think you will get a place at your preferred choice?

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 14/04/2019 15:14

Yes I'm really anxious as live in a school black spot.

Our nearest school is 0.4 miles, last few years furthest admitted is 0.24. Our second nearest school is 0.8 miles, again last few years was 0.66. Our third nearest school is our catchment it is 1.5 miles and CofE. It is 50:50 on previous 4 years whether we would have just scraped in.

Failing that the only local undersubcribed schools are either horrendous or the ones that their cousins and half siblings go to (their father is not allowed contact indirect or direct with my two) so I have no idea how that would work in terms of safeguarding :(

ThisIsTheEndgame · 14/04/2019 15:14

Should do, but lately just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, so I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched.

The worst part will be the waiting, apparently the letter goes out second class! I wonder if I phoned the admissions team on Tuesday would they tell me over the phone?

Yes and very anxious! I had a nightmare of a time getting my eldest in to a good school so I think my worries are a bit of a hangover from that. However, we've moved since and changed schools, so hoping for a place at an out of catchment primary (as the catchment school wasn't great). Siblings out of catchment are 3rd down the priority list so fingers are tightly crossed!

Muddlingalongalone · 14/04/2019 15:26

Yes for dd2. School was undersubscribed when i chose it for dd1 but they added priority areas in since & it is increasing in popularity. We are siblings out of priority area category and in theory should get in based on history but still nervous.
Dd2 is not good with change & is desperate to be with big sis.
Fingers crossed for Tuesday night. I'll be trying to access the portal from my phone on the tube coz I'm off to the theatre!

beargryllshasabigrope · 14/04/2019 16:23

I think ours are published at midnight on 16/4 so I'll be staying up to see

ThisIsTheEndgame · 14/04/2019 16:24

In a way I am glad ours aren't online as I would have a terrible evening dozing off then waking every 15 minutes hoping for it to be midnight Smile

I'm really nervous. DS1 didn't get into his chosen school 2 years ago and it's made me nervous about DS2.

The school is our closest and we're in catchment. DS1 is there as well so have siblings going in our favour as well. Just really nervous. DS2 has speech delays and likely selective mutism. He's only just coming out of his shell at school. I don't know what to do if we had to get him resettled somewhere else again. Sad

SchrodingersBrexit · 14/04/2019 17:00

@beargryllshasabigrope oh really? That would be good! I was thinking that it will be about 5am... a late night would be better than an early morning!

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 14/04/2019 17:59

Ours are 10am :(

AppleKatie · 14/04/2019 18:03

Ours are ‘during the afternoon’ of the 16th and it’s an email with the portal being updated ‘after all emails are sent’.

The whole process takes such a ridiculously long time I’m convinced it’s one pensioner in a back office at the council working it out with a pencil and a bit of string.

Gryffindorwin2991 · 14/04/2019 18:37

I’m with you OP, I’m so nervous. I did DDs application in October last year and I’ve had far too much time to second guess my choices. I had an order in my head of what schools we wanted based on and results, but this all changed when we had a look around them all and our initial third choice became our first. Our council are sending the emails out in working hours on the 16th and I’ve booked the day off work as I know I’m going to be anxiously checking my emails until it comes through. Fingers crossed for you all x

Gryffindorwin2991 · 14/04/2019 18:39

Sorry that should read based on ofsted and exam results Blush

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 14/04/2019 19:11

@Gryffindorwin2991 I changed my mind after viewing. The one with great results spoke about sats for 20 minutes and I didn't get any real view of anything else about the school, it just felt like an exam machine. The school I switched to had perfectly good results but equally excellent fun bits and SEN support etc. Hoping I got the one I changed to

Coldilox · 14/04/2019 19:48

I’m the same as you, have to wait for a letter due to a deferred reception start. We should get our first choice looking at previous years, but still nervous.

May email my contact at the LA, she’s been lovely, she may be willing to email me on Tuesday once places are out.

LotsToThinkOf · 15/04/2019 07:03

Fatted it sounds like we had similar experiences the first time round. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Our letter arrived on Saturday which was surprising, I’d applied by email and was expecting an email on the 16th. However, with my DS1 the emails weren’t sent on the day and a letter didn’t arrive either, there’d been an issue so we just had to keep trying to get through on the phone. We eventually got through at about lunch time to find he’d been given a space in a school we didn’t like and hadn’t put on our list.

It’s worked out really well though, it’s a nice school and DS is happy, we got a letter for DS2 on Saturday and he has a place there too, our first choice.

MsRabbitRocks · 15/04/2019 09:50

Very nervous here-just want to know really so I can get started with organising childcare. Am based in London so really could be given anything!!!!

ThisIsTheEndgame · 15/04/2019 10:25

@LotsToThinkOf - do you mean you have had a paper letter already for this round of primary admissions? Do you mind me asking what local authority you come under?

OP posts:
LotsToThinkOf · 15/04/2019 10:28

I'm in the north east. If you're this part of the country too I'll be more specific, and yes we got a letter on Saturday morning - I'd been expecting an email on the 16th and a letter to follow. The letter is dated the 16th!

ThisIsTheEndgame · 15/04/2019 10:36

Ha! Future mail! No, I'm in Essex.

OP posts:
Raisingbabylg · 15/04/2019 10:37

I'm technically Hertfordshire. It says we hear in the 'evening' of the 16th. I'm so anxious and what time is that!? They should really give a specific time slot e.g. between 4 and 5pm. We're in the catchment for one school that I really do not want so filled my list hoping to avoid that one! Yikes!!!!

Coldilox · 15/04/2019 11:08

Emailed my contact at the LA, she said she can’t send an email tomorrow (not sure why) but that letters are being sent today, so hoping the letter will arrive tomorrow!

bookworm14 · 15/04/2019 11:14

I’m nervous, although the chances of DD not getting into at least our second choice are pretty low. First choice is unlikely as we are a couple of streets outside last year’s most distant offer, but you never know. We’d be happy with second choice. Emails being sent tomorrow evening according to Council website.
