We got our results today, still trying to decipher raw/scaled score. DD got EXS for everything, which is great, but it's very hard not knowing what she would have got on the old system!

DiamondAge - Why give creativity greater weight?

Because some jobs require it.

yougottheshining · 12/07/2016 21:46

So Shakespeare isn't a classic writer now?

NoBetterName · 12/07/2016 22:16

DS1 got 120 (and 100%) in reading, 114 in SPAG and 110 in maths. I'm chuffed to bits, especially since we refused to send him to the school's last minute booster sessions or pre-SATS yoga sessions.

Feenie · 12/07/2016 22:18

God, I would LOVE pre-SAT yoga sessions! Sounds lovely.

NoBetterName · 12/07/2016 22:21

We decided whilst their hearts were in the right place, an extra hour in bed would benefit him more in terms of being relaxed.

Feenie · 12/07/2016 22:27

Fair enough. He'll have missed out on a bit of camaraderie/bonding though.

NoBetterName · 12/07/2016 22:41

Not really. It's a small country school, not a large London primary so all the children know each other very well. I don't think that's something you can judge based on a single post, but thanks for the feedback.

ZappDingbat · 12/07/2016 23:22

Thank you for all the informative posts on this thread. It has really helped me to understand dd's results. I was baffled looking at all the numbers and didn't understand what they mean. Flowers

Feenie · 13/07/2016 06:48

Sorry, nobettername, didn't mean to.be judgey! Just offering another reason for those types of things pre-SATs.

Schools do get the papers back, as our school has been through them with a fine tooth comb making sure the marking was up to scratch and has sent some back for re:marking as they considered them ill marked and the children deserved more.

Im so annoyed and angry how so many kids are so very aware of this marketing system etc...

So my DS got Maths 109 SPAG 108 and Reading 109.

He WAS chuffed until others in his classes told him they weren't very good marks as they had got a mixture 110/117/118. That night we had tears etc...

I have reassured him that he did marvellously well and these are pass marks so he should be proud of himself.

TeenAndTween · 13/07/2016 12:30

He WAS chuffed until others in his classes told him they weren't very good marks

... which is why I asked up-thread (or was it on the other one) for people to tell their children not to discuss their marks...

My DD isn't discussing marks, no good can come of it. If others have done better, you feel bad, if others have done worse, they feel bad.

1million · 13/07/2016 12:51

Exactly I told him NOT to post a copy of their results paper which he didn't but he was asked in class...It is so unfair that there is a PASS or FAIL this year at least last year you got a level not just a pass or fail.

I told my DS now he got the results he might as well forget about them as his secondary isn't interested in them as they will do their own tests

Fresta · 13/07/2016 16:30

I think the problem with having no pass mark though is that there is then no minimum expectation. Many parents didn't understand the old levelling system, and there were many misconceptions which were impossible for teachers or the government to dispell. The first one being that if you achieved a 4B you were average. 4B was the minimum expectation, not the average. I think the new tests have many shortcomings, but at least a child who doesn't pass can see exactly how near or far they were to passing. Also, the fact that the average scores have been published gives a clearer indication of where your child sits nationally.

mrz · 13/07/2016 17:13

But there has always been a "pass mark" ! OK it was call the threshold but essentially it was the mark you needed to achieve the expected level.

Feenie · 13/07/2016 18:04

Actually, 4B was the average, until David Blunkett decided to make it the minimum expectation.

Mov1ngOn · 13/07/2016 18:13

Everyone should be above average. ...

Fresta · 14/07/2016 08:01

That's the problem Mrz, many parents didn't understand that 4B was effectively the pass mark because they didn't call it that.

4B was always touted as being the average, but the average will vary from year to year, and if standards are to be improved it shouldn't be a announced as a standard fixture.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2016 08:28

4B was touted as being the minimum expectation wasn't it?

mrz · 14/07/2016 20:25

Probably because 4B wasn't the pass level

Fresta · 15/07/2016 17:21

So what was it then Mrz?

BeccieJoy · 15/07/2016 17:24

My boy got 108 for reading, 111 for Maths and 117 for SPAG. Totally impressed with him right now. I have been searching for a national percentile chart for the results but have yet to be able to find one so if anyone discovers one let me know!!! :)

honey02 · 15/07/2016 17:39

hi all this is my first post on here I got my dd results today no scores attached just the code she got GDS for maths and both literacy and EXS for science what type of scores will she have gotten anyone any ideas?

mrz · 15/07/2016 17:55

It was level 4 no sub level (which technically never existed in the National Curriculum ...another anomaly)
