We got our results today, still trying to decipher raw/scaled score. DD got EXS for everything, which is great, but it's very hard not knowing what she would have got on the old system!

We had a note from DD's school saying that some of their tests have been incorrectly marked by 1 mark and so some are being sent back to be remarked with results in the autumn. DD got the pass mark for maths and so it was always her fear that it had been marked wrong. I've told her it won't matter as she'll be settled in her new school by then but it's awful to think that DD has been told she's met the standard and it could be altered to not having met the standard

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2016 20:42

That might depend on your definition of 'really good'.

Makes you wonder what else they do.

mrz · 18/07/2016 20:43

The school will only ask for remarks on tests that haven't achieved the pass mark.

LippyLiz · 18/07/2016 20:48

The school will only ask for remarks on tests that haven't achieved the pass mark.

I hope so, though they worded it that it could mean a 'fail' so I thought they'd send DD's paper as she's on the mark with her maths. It won't matter anyway, she'll hopefully have forgotten about it come the Autumn. Not nice for the kids though, but obviously great for those who may then pass

mrz · 18/07/2016 20:57

It's hugely expensive they won't waste money on remarking those who have passed

LippyLiz · 18/07/2016 21:06

Hope so and yes it is expensive as the school has to pay. I never thought about that. We shall see in the autumn though

The secondary accountability measure of progress 8 attainment is based on KS2 SATS scores. That is why secondaries use them to predict grades- they need to get all pupils to an = or + score for progress 8.

Secondary targets are not set by the DfE. Each school sets their own targets (often called KPIs in secondary)- for example they could set a +1 progress 8 target if they were aiming for an Ofsted outstanding.

The DfE has minimum standards (floor standards) which include a progress 8 measure. All schools are expected to meet the minimum standard

My son got 119 SPAG, 119, Reading and 116 maths. He brought this report home last night and I feel quite bad. Since I didn't understand it I don't think I gave him the level of praise he deserves :( Although he wouldn't have known this because I was still very pleased - I just feel I should have celebrated it more with him. But there is always tonight!

The GDS/EXS thing was the thing that threw me. I was about to ring the school asking why they gave him EXS in maths whilst also describing him as gifted etc. Then I found something on a different page and stuff on here that let me know they can only give a GDS in writing only. Slightly irritating that they have this scale but fail to detail within the report that EXS is the top standard in English.

soyvanillalatte · 19/07/2016 14:00

Is there a cut off number for the GDS?

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 14:53

I really don't know and this table doesn't help re your ? Soyvlatte.

But this table shows how the scores were scaled (www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/534106/2016_KS2_scaled_scores.pdf)

Apologies if I have duplicated on current SATs discussions.

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 14:55

Sorry the link was correct but doesn't seem to be working here. Are links not allowed? If so, soz.

soyvanillalatte · 19/07/2016 14:59

Thanks :) Was more after which number is the cut off for GDS vs EXS.
I'm assuming its 115.

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 15:00

But here is a photo that seems to explain that the score is around exams and teacher ass is what leads to GDS/EXS etc, taken from a gov website

soyvanillalatte · 19/07/2016 15:00

Oops, just re-read that your son's 116 was a EXS. It must be higher.

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 15:01

I can't open that photo myself, but that's what it says- also on the gov page.

FATEdestiny · 19/07/2016 15:02

Place marking. Blush

Not had results from school yet but not sure how much I will understand when I do.

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 15:02

I know I'm a bit confused with it all but it said on gov website you can't get an EXS for maths.

spanieleyes · 19/07/2016 16:37

you can for teacher assessment but not for the test result.

TeenAndTween · 19/07/2016 16:39

FATE It is quite straightforward really.

If they score 100 or above they have reached expectations.
Under 100 they haven't.
The closer to 120 they get, the better they have done.
The closer to 80 they get, the worse they have done.

Only 53% got 100 or above in all 3 areas.
Only 66% got 100 or above in Reading
Only 70something % got 100 or above in Maths
Only 70something % got 100 or above in SPaG.

That's about it really.

None of this predestines how well your DC will do in secondary. A less able child who works hard might outperform a more able child who doesn't bother to try.
Though obviously a child who averages 105 is likely on average to do better at secondary than a child who averages 95.

LitteL0st · 19/07/2016 18:28

Hi spaniel eyes, I just googled this again and info I found stares that the teacher assessment can only give GDS for writing, apparently. I've emailed my son's school so I'll wait to hear.

springwaters · 20/07/2016 03:36

www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/archive/schools_10/s11.shtml

That is a link to the 2010 performance tables?

So 6 years out of date - the floor changed even before progress 8 came in.

Buttwing · 20/07/2016 20:52

Soy my dd got gds and got 119 so it must be between 116 and 119.

PonderingProsecco · 20/07/2016 21:14

I find all this bandying about of 119s etc odd.
For goodness sake, even if not official yet, clearly above expected/ greater depth.
Good grief....
