Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

MTWTFSS

first time round we were in that 5.6% who didn't get allocated any ranked school. I know of two other people too

What do you look under to find those stats

MTWTFSS · 11/04/2015 17:48

True, I am being ridiculous :(

I know three people that happened to. They had all done something daft on their form.Sad

There are a few total black hole areas, but in most cases getting nothing is 'user error'.

MrsGannicus · 11/04/2015 18:24

Was getting a bit panicked reading those stats, but thanks for making that seem more reasonable tiggytape.

I think we have an 80% chance of getting in to our 1st choice . We would have got in every year for the last 5 years, but 2 bulge classes in the last 3 years will mean more siblings this year.

MTWTFSS · 11/04/2015 18:25

Do you think people do daft things because they don't get the right help/advice when filling in the form?

Sometimes. But two of the people I know knew all the rules and thought they were a big conspiracy and they could game them.Hmm

Purplepenguin555 · 11/04/2015 19:16

As I am new to mumsnet is a new thread going to be started when we get choice to share our news about schools or just post on this thread ! Thank you this is just all new to me Smile

We only get to list 3 schools on the form here. Our 2nd and 3rd choices are usually undersubscribed, so we'd be unlucky if we didn't get any of our preferred schools.

The application guide on the council website does strongly recommend that parents use all 3 choices.

I have a friend who only put down 2 choices (2nd choice is very close to her house so she feels 100% certain that her DC will get 2nd choice at least), and the council actually wrote to her after she submitted the application to remind her that she could put 3 choices down, and recommended that she go back into the application to add a 3rd choice. She didn't.

ShadowStone · 11/04/2015 20:10

The council application guide even says not to put your favourite school down 3 times, so i guess that must be a common mistake people make.

Absolutely. One said " Well they say you should put down genuine choices but I know for a fact that they have to give you one off your list. They just don't want people to know that or no one would put the bad schools. " So she put the one she wanted and three great schools she would never qualify for (so then they would have to give her what she wanted ). She got AN Other school.

Another thought that although they say to use all the choices putting down one showed how much you wanted it and unofficially swayed 'them'.

Our LA even has a myths section on the website. But that is all lies too apparently.

Almostapril · 11/04/2015 20:34

I know 2 people who did not get any school they listed. Both had listed all the outstanding schools too far for them to get in, including faith schools they were not eligible for (we get 3-6 boxes to fill in) . They were convinced the LA would then give them one. Huge mistake

Purplepenguin555 · 11/04/2015 20:39

I have used all my 4 options that we had to put down. My favourite school is my 1st choice we are just out of catchment but could get lucky you never know. My 2nd is catchment school and 3rd and 4th is just good schools within the area would be happy with any of my 4 tbh so just fingers crossed I get one of them good luck to you all ! Hope you all get the schools you want ! X

Twine88 · 11/04/2015 20:55

We listed four choices, which I hope are realistic, but one mum did suggest to me just listing the one i really wanted, so the council new I would'nt except anything else Hmm

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 22:37

I didn't list our catchment school as there was no way dd was going to go there.

But two of the three schools we would have gotten in on distance the year before and in previous years or I wouldn't have put them. The third one was a very long shot but there was no where else to put.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 22:38

for dd1

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 23:09

Sadly this ur was a different story Sad

I put dd1s school obviously. and I also picked one that was nearer dd2 school in the hope that if she got it the journey would be a bit easier. but both the schools do admit outside catchment. and potentially all applicants could be given a place. (although with ever increasing housing being built nothings for certain)

the third school again not catchment but It's again a school we could get in on distance (if places are left after siblings and catchment)

the fourth was again long shot going by last yr but it's the only one remotely feesable left.

two are the same schools as last time but again there have been years in between where we would have got in still.

I am sadly not Confident with either of them but I'm certain that the catchment school would be the one given regardless as it's usually under subscribed so doesn't need to be listed

ShadowStone · 11/04/2015 23:10

I wish that it was as simple as just listing the nearest school.

Out of my 4 nearest schools, my nearest one - only one within reasonable walking distance - is the hardest one to get into. Ironically, they're doubling the reception intake next year. Too late for DS1 though.

ShadowStone · 11/04/2015 23:11

By next year, I mean for the September 2016 intake.
