Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

I have only put one choice down. Our (over subscribed) village primary with one form entry with a PAN of just 15. I know that sounds absolute madness but no one from the village ever puts more than one choice down as the class is usually made up with half in catchment half out of catchment children so all village children always get a place, as long as the application was submitted correctly and on time. This year though is a boom year with more village children than ever before and a large group of out of catchment siblings. It's tense to say the least.

Where are you likely to get if there are non spaces?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Pagerty, and I really hope it works out. Many parents will have only listed the one school for reasons similar to yours - others because they think, wrongly, that they can force the LA into giving them that school; some will be happy come allocation day, others won't.

I have to admit that even I used all my 3 preferences despite DS being a catchment sibling.

The school has never refused a catchment child, let alone a catchment sibling and they are over PAN in a number of year groups (all but 2 year groups are over PAN) with the nursery now highly oversubscribed too.

However, I have read, year-on-year, the horror stories of catchment siblings not getting in/catchment shrinking to 250m etc., and I just couldn't risk it.

RatOnnaStick · 10/04/2015 15:49

I feel reasonably sure of getting DS's first choice as the catchment has been around 5 miles up to about 11 one year and we are just under 2 miles. Even if not, I'm quite happy with 2nd choice - it was a toss-up between the two as to which was first and second really.

My friend, however, is much more nervous as she is 4.9 miles away. She's so worried about not getting her first choice that she's already researching appeal strategies (not that there will be any point). She's also already decided if she is offered 2nd or 3rd choice she will be refusing them which I think is mad! I think this whole process has left her addled and confused.

Hmm. Thats interesting. Her second choice was originally a PAN of 20, bumped up to 26 this year. The school is tiny though so there will be little space. I wonder if there will be many appeals there?

I am beginning to feel the stress of everyone I know waiting for 16/4. Good luck everyone. There is an interesting thread on chat mentioned earlier asking people to give their views on admissions.

5 days to go... I hope the sun comes out today to take my mind off it!

I know, not long to wait now. The weather here today is terrible, it was 20c yesterday so we planned to go to then each this morning but we've woken up to heavy rain and gale force winds :(

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 07:00

The beach that meant to say :) damn predictive text lol.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 07:32

MTWTFSS · 11/04/2015 08:47

Can I join the anxious wait? Our catchment school (our first choice) is oversubscribed and although neighbours have previously got in, last year we would'nt of which really worries me. Two housing depvelopments have recently been built in its catchment and i fear we have been squeezed out. I have been counting down to the 16th for months, but now it approaches I just don't want to know, if we don't get out first choice I have no clue where we will end up, I did not list the next nearest as its got a bad reputation locally and also a bad ofsted...our next three choices are our next nearest but everything is oversubscribed...

MTWTFSS · 11/04/2015 11:50

Twine88 Welcome :)

I am going crazy!!! I wish I was blessed with more patience :(

Thanks MTWTFSS

Percentage wise what do people think their chances of getting their first choices are? When we moved to our house our DS was young, but old enough for us to be thinking of school choices, at that point I would of said we had a 80% chance of getting our first choice, now I reverse that :( and feel like maybe a 20% chance. I am becoming less and less positive! I want to go to bed and not lay awake thinking about it all!

RatOnnaStick · 11/04/2015 14:58

Going by my admissions info online, last year in Kent 95.5% got one of their preferences with 85% getting their first preference school. I'm reasonably sure because I live in a semi-rural area. I wouldn't feel so happy if I was living in a city.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 16:42

Hello twine hang in there.

previous years we definitely would have got in. but first time round we fell victim to the first year everyone didn't get in to first choice school so paranoid history will repeat itself

Out of 14,042 applications, 786 applications didn't get a ranked school Shock

MTWTFSS · 11/04/2015 17:40

5.6% sounds small, 786 sounds like loads... OMG I am freaking out :(

Apparently last year, 92% of kids got their first choice primary school in our LEA.

For us, looking at the last few years at where the distance cut off was for our first choice primary school, we'd have got in about 50% of the years. But - 2 years ago they increased the intake slightly. At least one of the children admitted that year lives further away than us and has a younger sibling due to start reception in September. So I'm a bit worried that there'll be a disproportionate amount of siblings applying this year.
