Feeling more nervous than DS2!

He's 'borderline', particularly in Literacy. He'll be so happy if he gets a 4 (as will I!) so off he went just now with me offering my last minute bon mots ('Read carefully! Most of the answers are in the text! If it doesn't make sense, you've not read it properly' etc).

Sorry, that's all out of order, but in reply to your comment down the thread!

Feenie · 17/05/2012 18:50

I got it! Smile

mrz · 17/05/2012 18:51

Hides red pen and whistles innocently Grin

KOKOagainandagain · 17/05/2012 18:57

Just grilled gently questioned DS. Confirmed that the same 5 DC had readers and that they all sat together in the hall. He did not have 1:1 support himself but could turn around and ask a reader sat behind him for help. He said that she could read the questions but could'nt tell him what words meant eg divide but then he went on to say that she just helped him by suggesting what he should do 'perhaps you should try...'??

Where are the monitors? No sting with clipboards and balaclavas. I was assured that 'action would be taken' (senior advisor) but they couldn't tell me what it was - presumably they would have to kill me if they did Grin

Whoopydofoxpoo · 17/05/2012 19:02

Sorry Feenie - obviously wrong of me to try and have a bit of banter with a poster that I don't know .

Won't do it again Miss.

gafhyb · 17/05/2012 19:03

I shall come over there and bang your heads together

Whoopydofoxpoo · 17/05/2012 19:06

Not allowed to throw blackboard rubbers - child abuse

In fact not allowed to call them 'black' board rubbers !

Grin

I'll tell .

gafhyb · 17/05/2012 19:08

Allright

Whoopydofoxpoo · 17/05/2012 19:11

Not quite the same really is it ... Smile

pointythings · 17/05/2012 19:17

Well, DD said she was one of a few who finished the paper, so it must have been a hard one. We'll just have to wait and see! At least it's now over apart from L6 literacy next week, but she's looking forward to that one.

seeker · 17/05/2012 19:25

DS has just told me some random numbers he put down for the Jx2 question- they bear absolutely no relation to the numbers given down thread!

IndigoBell · 17/05/2012 19:27

DS said it was a long paper - he finished with only 18 minutes to spare :)

He reckons everyone else finished as well.

Northernlurker · 17/05/2012 19:37

Dd seemed pretty chilled out about it though certainly pleased it's all finished now. It irritates me to admit it because I loathe SATS but the skills she's learnt about exam technique have clearly stood her in good stead and she'll be able to use that always so some useful benefit to her at least.

Milgod · 17/05/2012 19:42

the j-k question could have had (obviously) many different answers.

Paper B was very easy IMO. Best we have had for years.

startail · 17/05/2012 19:51

I'm just sorry for the secondary schools, who are going to be expected to get ridiculous grades for GCSEs from DCs who's primaries have crammed them to the hilt simply to keep OFSTED of their backs.

DDs has no choice, they were downgraded on the new rules, surrounding schools still have good under the old rules.

Parents don't realise they aren't combining like with like and the schools are all fighting for pupils.

(Rural housing costs, DC going private etc mean our rolls are falling)Sad

startail · 17/05/2012 19:51

Comparing like with like

Milgod · 17/05/2012 19:55

If they have been able to get the mark in the test then that is what they have achieved. 'Cramming' as you might call it is just revision - the same as GCSE and A-Level students do.

littlelegsmum · 17/05/2012 19:58

Today is the first day that dd has come home full of confidence Confused she said she finished it all and seemed really upbeat Hmm

Feenie · 17/05/2012 20:08

I disagree, Milgod, it is possible to scrape a level 6 without having been taught the level 6 objectives. Doesn't mean the child is necessarily a level 6.

Merrylegs · 17/05/2012 20:14

Well, DD said it was 'pretty terrible' but she finished it and she didn't cry, so that's a plus! It didn't help that, like simbo, her teacher went through the answers afterwards - helpful Confused? Still, all over now and all calm again here. Well done to all DCs and good luck to those taking L6!

FVRM · 17/05/2012 20:16

Sats have completely passed me by this week. My son's school makes very little fuss over them. But tonight he tells me he's got to do them again next week - level 6 papers? Anyone else heard of that, or know which days they're on? He's out playing cricket unless I insist on an early night!

KOKOagainandagain · 17/05/2012 20:24

The trouble is that it is (some) schools and teachers are pushing cramming to such an extent that they are cheating taking advantgage of loopholes to target borderline level 3/4 pupils in order that they help these children to help them to increase their SATs results. I too live in a rural areal where the classes are small and rolls are heavily dependently on the latest SATs scores or Ofsted report. Enabling such children to achieve level 4 can increase percentage scores by as much as a third or more - ie the best ever result or the worst ever - all down to the test performance of a handful of DC.

It is no wonder that DC do not achieve 'expected' GCSE's. Besides which we as parents have the right to know whether or not children leave a particular primary school with the expected academic skills. Revising is all well and good but it should not be used to cover up lower than expected attainment.

Kerryblue · 17/05/2012 20:33

My ds has come home and said that it was 'easy' and he had lots of time to check and recheck his answers - 15 mins in all. He is top of his class too.

(btw - he is sitting beside me and telling me what to write, having read some of the thread from this evening Grin)

The proof will be in the results though, despite always being a good little mathematician and doing L6 next week.

I wait with baited breath!!

bizzey · 17/05/2012 20:37

Good luck to any dc's doing science tomorrow....I imagine it will be a quieter thread tomorrow Grin

simbo · 17/05/2012 20:49

Good luck to all, but can someone, anyone shed light on my last question. I'm worrying now. I'm hoping the teacher will have looked at the papers so that I can find out whether ds's result from today will be as bleak as he is suggesting. I don't know what came over him, as he's usually so confident. He's out playing cricket, too, and I think I'll leave him out til it gets dark and he begs to go to bed! He deserves a break after today.
