What the fuck are Theriens?

My youngest DD (10) has taken a liking to jumping like an animal in the garden, drawing foxes, and wants me to buy her a mask and tail for her 11th birthday. She claims she's a "Therien" and feels like an animal. Apparently a few kids her age have gotten into it.

Bloody hell.

wisteria is running around on all fours pretending to be the dragon she was in a past life.

I have heard it all

intrigued by how it works if one was a fish in a past life

That’s even better than wondering about slugs. Must have very very long baths.

MangoPorrridge · 26/07/2024 06:43

Genuine question @Wysteria123 you said you are autistic and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Can animals be autistic? And what does LGBTQ+ look like in an animal?

“I had a shift in my garden”
Real foxes do this in mine too…😂

Beat me to it 😆

ChristmasFluff · 26/07/2024 06:46

I think it could be a tapping into the jungian collective unconsciousness (or whatever) - we all unconsciously know what these animals represent.

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:46

@MangoPorrridge As having the body of a human, the body I was given, I am pansexual and autistic.
Not just that but animals can be homosexual and display autistic-like traits

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 04:37

@AccountCreateUsername I don't think that's how it works...I don't believe in evolution anyway.

You believe in reincarnation but not evolution - ok then.

PhantomSmoke · 26/07/2024 06:48

This is not a knock on ASD people, but are Theriens generally on the spectrum? Not to say all ASD are Theriens, of course. Just wondering if there is some correlation. Similar to how quite a few non binary / trans are autistic (higher rates than NTs).

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:49

@PhantomSmoke Some therians are autistic/on the spectrum, but it has nothing to do with our identity as therians :)

DrJump · 26/07/2024 06:49

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:27

Okay I have a genuine question here. Why do y'all hate therians so much? We're just being ourselves and making the most out of our short-long lives. We are animals you just can't see it. We are standing for our identity. Therian haters are going too far. We don't need therapy and we're not mentally ill, but we WILL need therapy if you keep on hating on us. People have /oofed/ themselves over hate. It's not doing anything except making us feel unsafe and unwelcome being who we are. Just like you indentify as a human, we identify as animals. Simple as that. An animal in a human's body.

I've certainly not thought anything hateful about you.

I am worried.

You are human. You can not physically be an animal or multiple animals trapped in a human body. Continuing to try to convince yourself and those around you that you is not healthy for you in the long term.

I am also concerned you think tell mother to let their children follow you delusions is a good idea. It is not ok. It is ok for children to make believe. In fact it's good for them to play make believe. It's not good to indentify as make believe. Particularly if you need to world around you to do it too.

Hi! Friendly therian talking here! Exclusing this to some people known as fake therians (you can guess from the name) fake being a therian, therianthropy is not a phase and can not be 'grown out of'. We don't choose it and we can't get rid of it, even if you wanted to. Being a therian isn't about acting like an animal as play, though most do quadrobics as a fun activity that makes them feel more animal-like.Therianthropy is when you identify as one, as many therians experience memories from their past lives as animals. On every level except physical, therians identify as their thereotypes and can relate to the animalistic behaviour of them. We do quadrobics on all fours to feel morre connected to our thereotypes, with mine being Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf, Scottish Fold, Cross Fox and Dragon. (Yes, you can have multiple thereotypes.) Being a therian isn't created by the internet, you are born with therianthropy, but seeing videos on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok might encourage you you're not alone in how you're feeling, that there are others just like you, and you don't feel so scared anymore. Therianthropy is also NOT from any TV shows, it is REAL LIFE, not just some thing we made up. It is us. We are it. Just like you could be autistic (which I am) or dyslexic, you are born with it and it's not inspired by anything other than our inner souls. But one thing I ask you, if your child comes out to you saying they're a therian or anything that is considered 'weird' by some of the community-whether they're a furry or quadrobist or in the LGBTQ+ community (which I myself am), please, please, please support them. It means so much to them if you support them, that they don't have to hide anything from you, that they feel safe, that they can be themselves and be free around you instead of trapped by those unspoken rules that make up 'the norm', and even if you try to beat it out of them, it's not going to work. Thanks for reading, and please no hate! 😺

Sorry, but I consider it more "look at me" nonsense that got started by a few for attention and to back up their claims, they are trying to get more children/tweens/teens to fall into it. A few do something and eyes roll. You get several hundred to fall for it, and some group will form saying how okay it is, and open up a center, offering validation, affirmation and help switching into your animal. All for the small price of $$$ and demanding govt. funding. IOW--find a way to make money off it.

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:51

@Leanmeansmitingmachine Oop did I misspell it

Excellent post. Adults evidently need to start challenging this more if children are being taught nonsense like evolution doesn't exist!

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:59

Ok then. Think of therianthropy as like a religion. Imagine, say, a Christian. They believe in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And nobody challenges them for that. Well, most people don't. That bunch of Roman Emperors persecuted Christians for their beliefs. This is just like that. Therianthropy is the same, though not a religion. We do believe we are/were animals, and we get bullied for it. Called 'furries' and 'fatherless' and 'mentally ill' and 'fake'.

Leanmeansmitingmachine · 26/07/2024 07:02

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 06:51

@Leanmeansmitingmachine Oop did I misspell it

No, I did. My phone autocorrected.

I wasn’t laughing at the spelling, more the concept.

But having read all of your posts, I retract the laughter. No one hates you, they’re worried for you. This is not rational.

Differentstarts · 26/07/2024 07:02

Just say don't be a dick mate

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 07:06

Okay okay, let's rewrite this. If you are worried for me, no need, I know who I am and so do all therians. We find comfort in doing quadrobics and being within the therian community, just like you would doing your hobby with friends.

Me thinking how this whole conversation makes me regret trying to steal a carcass that was already taken

Maireas · 26/07/2024 07:07

Morning Wysteria, I am sorry if you feel that people are mocking you, but you must admit that it's a bit strange. People do worry about their children being drawn into things they've seen or heard of and can be damaged by. We know that children play, and active imaginative play is very good for development. We know that adults also cosplay and have hobbies which include dressing up. I think the concern here is "identification" which is a step further and may be more intrusive.
Your religious comparison isn't really valid; if I am a Christian, it is a set of beliefs and a pattern for life and behaviour, it doesn't change my identity as an adult human female.

needsomewarmsunshine · 26/07/2024 07:08

I understand what you are saying, but world has gone bat shit on so many levels.

Sethera · 26/07/2024 07:08

They believe in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And nobody challenges them for that.

Are you serious? People challenge religion, and religious people, all the time, and by no means always in a constructive or respectful way.

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 07:11

Okay, I was just using the comparison as the belief part of it, sorry if I offended anyone 😰

PhantomSmoke · 26/07/2024 07:12

I saw a girl of around 11ish in town the other week who had a tail…Looked like a wolf tail. She seemed to be rather agitated and uncomfortable. I had no idea about this Therien movement at the time, but this conversation throws that encounter into a whole new light.

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 07:14

@PhantomSmoke What do you mean by that

QuantumPanic · 26/07/2024 07:15

marshmallowboy · 26/07/2024 06:37

"When everyone is super. Noone will be" The Incredibles.
I think people are just running out of ideas to make themselves "special". It's very sad, we've got men pretending to be women and adults pretending to be animals . Something has gone seriously wrong. I always say a short stint volunteering in a famine-stricken or war-torn country might cure this crap but apparently that makes me right wing and I've voted left all my life.

This. These are all western 'diseases'. In a life devoid of challenges or struggle, you have to make your own. Being perfectly average in a world of 8 billion, you've got to find something that makes someone look at you.

(Bit flippant here, as obviously there are societal causes - atomisation, social and financial insecurity, hyperconnectivity/information overload, rapid change of pace - that are responsible for the epidemic of mental ill health we're seeing.)
