What the fuck are Theriens?

My youngest DD (10) has taken a liking to jumping like an animal in the garden, drawing foxes, and wants me to buy her a mask and tail for her 11th birthday. She claims she's a "Therien" and feels like an animal. Apparently a few kids her age have gotten into it.

@Bodeganights (My cat would probably aid yours in a takeover of the world)

@Shiningout Just pointing this out, being a therian isn't created by the internet, or by anything, but therian YouTubers/TikTokers spread the word about their identity and their hobbies, like another would post a cooking video or a makeup video or a dodgeball video, etc. It just is you, whether you like it or not, and I understand your concerns-at first when I found out I was a dragonkin I was confused, but being an otherkin is possible as your mythical thereotype may have existed long long ago or perhaps even in another dimension/universe. Pretty wild to believe, huh?

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/07/2024 21:47

How can you have a memory of a past life of being an animal that has never existed.

That isn't a memory, is it. Thats fantasy.

If someone tells me it makes them feel happy, gives them some inner faith and whatever, to imagine they used to be a unicorn... fine by me.

But thats what that is, imaginary. Not real.

Why are all these people not having past life memories of the other billionty species on the planet that exist or have existed?

Why isn't someone a gulper eel or a chaunacops, a nudibranch or an opilione - these things have been on the earth a fuck of a long time, much longer than a scottish fold cat.

Isn't it a bit convenient that people want to be the pretty, cute, cool animals. Not a dung beetle or a cockroach or a blobfish.

Hi! Friendly therian talking here! Exclusing this to some people known as fake therians (you can guess from the name) fake being a therian, therianthropy is not a phase and can not be 'grown out of'. We don't choose it and we can't get rid of it, even if you wanted to. Being a therian isn't about acting like an animal as play, though most do quadrobics as a fun activity that makes them feel more animal-like.Therianthropy is when you identify as one, as many therians experience memories from their past lives as animals. On every level except physical, therians identify as their thereotypes and can relate to the animalistic behaviour of them. We do quadrobics on all fours to feel morre connected to our thereotypes, with mine being Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf, Scottish Fold, Cross Fox and Dragon. (Yes, you can have multiple thereotypes.) Being a therian isn't created by the internet, you are born with therianthropy, but seeing videos on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok might encourage you you're not alone in how you're feeling, that there are others just like you, and you don't feel so scared anymore. Therianthropy is also NOT from any TV shows, it is REAL LIFE, not just some thing we made up. It is us. We are it. Just like you could be autistic (which I am) or dyslexic, you are born with it and it's not inspired by anything other than our inner souls. But one thing I ask you, if your child comes out to you saying they're a therian or anything that is considered 'weird' by some of the community-whether they're a furry or quadrobist or in the LGBTQ+ community (which I myself am), please, please, please support them. It means so much to them if you support them, that they don't have to hide anything from you, that they feel safe, that they can be themselves and be free around you instead of trapped by those unspoken rules that make up 'the norm', and even if you try to beat it out of them, it's not going to work. Thanks for reading, and please no hate! 😺

Edited

I was actually thinking it all sounded pretty harmless until this

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 21:50

@WiddlinDiddlin A therian can be any thereotype, for example one of my friends is a golden dart frog therian and someone I know (though not necessarily friends with) is a fly therian. Mammals, especially felines and canines, are just more common than others.

CharlotteLightandDark · 26/07/2024 21:58

I’m pretty sure I had a phase of pretending to be a leopard or some such as a kid, and I had a pretty vivid imagination back then so I can kind of see how it could have progressed to something like this had I had YouTube back then.

i think the masks/tails are fairly harmless but the jumping around looks potentially like you could do yourself a mischief 😣

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/07/2024 22:19

Yes you've mentioned those two examples several times now.

The golden dart frog is a very beautiful and agile creature - I keep dart frogs, they are stunning and cute at times. This is not comparable to say, theloderma asperum - the bird poop frog or pied warty frog...

A fly... but you don't say which fly. I wonder why that is. Is it because this person has chosen a dragonfly - a beautiful, agile predator, with incredible vision and amazing flight skills.

Chances are they're not a fruit-fly eh? Miniscule, addicted to sugar and for the flightless ones, single minded in their determination to go UP, at all cost.

Sorry kiddo - if people really were revealed to have had past lives as animals, we'd be seen dung-beetle people, slug people, silverfish people etc.

Not multiple people claiming to be a tiny handful of 'cool' animals out of the billions of normal, boring, every day animals.

Wysteria123 · 26/07/2024 22:30

Sorry for not being specific, she's a House Fly therian. @WiddlinDiddlin Also, when you say 'chosen', bear in mind therians do not choose their thereotypes, it comes to them.

AppleKatie · 26/07/2024 22:32

It doesn’t though does it? Because that is literally nonsense.

PhantomSmoke · 26/07/2024 22:33

Why is it so common to be a cat/wolf/fox?

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/07/2024 22:34

Yeah but thats really my point @Wysteria123 if they really did just 'come to them' rather than being chosen... they'd not ALL be bloody foxes and leopards and wolves would they.

They'd be squat lobsters and crinoids and (ooh I want to be a crinoid, look like a plant, swim away at the first sign of danger) slime moulds and so on.

Your friend is not a frog, or a fly. They are human and complete fantasists I'm sorry to say.

House fly. Poor kid.

MugPlate · 26/07/2024 22:44

Expect there’s a lot of crossover with the “plurals” community.

Turns out that living with our faces buried in screens is not good for concepts of reality.

I dread to think what triggers the fly one to "shift".

Tmpnmc86 · 26/07/2024 22:59

Surely there should be more flies than mammals, not the other way around. The earth must be far more populated with flies than it is mammals so statistically more people would surely recall past lives as flies?

drspouse · 26/07/2024 23:11

I think medication might be a better first step for @Wysteria123. Preferably before you get run over while walking on all fours or try to fly off the roof.

Yappucino · 26/07/2024 23:51

@Hoppinggreen Me too! I was perfectly okay with letting my daughter go through whatever pre-teen phase she wanted to, but this sounds delusional.

I'll get you one tomorrow if he comes home, he might be getting better food 7 houses up tonight.

I have even warned the streets to not feed him, he will take over the world. They just laugh and eye roll at me. Hes the perfect age to be sorting out coups and shit.

thank you:-)

well they won't be laughing when he finally takes over. thankfully the other cats will also go for world domination and the infighting will allow humanity to live free for a few more years

Yeah, that's putting it mildly. 🙄

Leave the children alone.

I dread to think what triggers the fly one to "shift".

I wonder if they try to lay maggots. Or, since the life of a housefly is so very short, how do they switch when their life is snuffed by a fly swatter?

BranstonPickleandPeanutButter · 27/07/2024 03:51

This has been amazing 👏🏻 🤣

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/07/2024 04:11

I can't imagine coping with the spirit of a housefly stuck controlling your thoughts... wouldn't you spend most of your time torn between bashing repeatedly into window panes and hunting out raw meat and shit to slurp?

But no, of course not, whilst you obviously do not choose which animal/s you are, you can choose which bit of that animals behaviour you want to emulate...

I assume in the case of the housefly... you can't emulate their visual skills, so no ability to see polarized and non-polarized light, and you can still see red... and certainly not their flight...

And you don't want to spend time hunting for shit or vomiting up stomach acid onto your food then drinking the resultant slurry...

What's left exactly?

user8464987632 · 27/07/2024 05:18

About 15 years ago I was involved in the case of a very ill person whose job involved working on computer games. This person had a complete psychotic breakdown believing entirely that he was previously a dragon (character in the game) He had spent so much time immersed in thoughts of being a dragon trying to imagine what it would feel like, how it would behave etc that he had lost grip of reality. He had then found people online who had reinforced his thoughts and made him worse.
Back then he was committed. He was very unwell for a very long time. Nowadays we are expected to reinforce and confirm this utter nonsense and for grown adults to actually try to bring children into this fantasy who have wonderful imaginations and are clearly more likely to be influenced to believe in this stuff is quite frankly sick and abusive.

Wysteria123 you are of course free to fuck up your own life but don’t try to persuade a worried parent to get a child involved in a community of fantasist adults who want to drag more people into their world to perpetuate it.

This is like me saying I didn't choose my favorite colour it just came to me. It still a choice and over my life time it has changed.

Or would you think this is some form.of internal essence.

But can't you see how bonkers this is?? You were not a dragon in a past life ffs! Sorry to be rude but honestly this shit being peddled out to kids is damaging. You can pretend to be whatever you want to be but people making videos on social media convincing children that they are actually a mythical creature is fucking ridiculous. Where does this absolute lunacy end?

Wisteria has not answered my question as to how old they are. This could be a child.

And whatever age Wisteria is, this is either someone who is deluded or on the wind up.
