What the fuck are Theriens?

My youngest DD (10) has taken a liking to jumping like an animal in the garden, drawing foxes, and wants me to buy her a mask and tail for her 11th birthday. She claims she's a "Therien" and feels like an animal. Apparently a few kids her age have gotten into it.

There seems a bit of a mismatch between 'I don't believe in evolution because it's only a theory' and 'I earnestly believe my friend shifts into being a frog and that I'm part mythical creature because it could have existed in a different universe.'

Why the different standards?

susey · 27/07/2024 08:10

I fully suspect Wisteria is both a child and male. ("I am a gay female" but also "pansexual"? Hmmm).

This thread has been very entertaining, at least. Hopefully an education for parents about why young internet access needs to be restricted and monitored. This stuff is not innocent.

Good grief. What a read this has been

@Wysteria123
well I certainly don't hate you. I don't think anyone here hates you.
I have been thinking about how you described your experiences. it seems like as a neurodiverse individual you experience the world differently (which I can't pretend I understand, because I am not one) and at times certain stimuli change your sensations/heighten them/set off certainly thoughts or you could be having dissociative episodes. would you agree that is an objective description of your experience?
now you have probably felt a need to explain or frame these sensations and then come across the therian ideology and you found that it resonated with how you felt?

now if it gives you comfort, you can do whatever you want, it's not our business. but for your own mental health, you need to accept it is not objectively real. firstly dragons are not real. real animals are not identity confused and don't feel like a fox, cag, dog. they just are those things. they are focused on being themselves, not thinking about what they are. they are not homosexual (human concept) or autistic (human concept). they may have sex with animals of their own sex or some may be poor socially, but putting human social descriptors on them is inaccurate.

I feel like a lot of the lgbtq space is taken up with talk about identity. no one can identify as anything. we are what we are, human beings in different shapes and sizes who are attracted to different people. sticking labels on doesn't change anything and often some people in this space become so obsessed by the label and whether others are labelling them correctly, they forget to just be themselves and live life.

do yourself a favour @Wysteria123 and forget labels or what you identify as. try to objectively assess what you are feeling and seek help from a qualified professional who can help you understand your experiences.

NotAlexa · 27/07/2024 12:13

Can I just suggest that if any of us reasonable adults come across a YouTube or Tik Tok video where “therian” adults are grooming our children, we report them under the Mental Health Act 2007? On the grounds of being a danger to themselves and others.

If he's in on a night he sleeps in the crook of my knees. So I have to check where he is before I turn over, then he gently bites my nose at stupid o'clock to let him out.

It may be time to get a lock fitted, I sure can see him as a megalomaniac.

I've certainly not thought anything hateful about you.

I am worried.

You are human. You can not physically be an animal or multiple animals trapped in a human body. Continuing to try to convince yourself and those around you that you is not healthy for you in the long term.

I am also concerned you think tell mother to let their children follow you delusions is a good idea. It is not ok. It is ok for children to make believe. In fact it's good for them to play make believe. It's not good to indentify as make believe. Particularly if you need to world around you to do it too.

Exactly this, Particularly if you need to world around you to do it too.

Growing up, play was limited to the friendship circle and garden, and we certainly didn't have adults acting as animals. We didn't have the Internet exacerbating our play and brainwashing young impressionable and vulnerable minds to believe this idiocity. I agree with so many comments here including needing to experience the real world, poorer countries and stop obsessing with who you are and start thinking about other people. Life is too short to just think about yourself and your identity too.

You describe dissociating, this is a trauma based reaction. I do feel you may have some underlying trauma that this is masking this Wisteria, and if not, then the Internet and this (what I can only describe as a cult mentality) has brainwashed you. The replies on here I can only imagine are probably from people older than you, including myself? Therefore we have seen the world before and after the social media craze. Social media has gone mad, and has taken in it's clutches the youth. We can see this as have watched it unravel, alarmingly and with huge concern.

I think the whole Therian world is absolutely ridiculous, one that should be left as innocent play in the garden for under 10's and not called Therianopathy but normal play, that doesn't involve the Internet and identities. Also, role play as children was intermingled with other play such as sport, dolls, toy cars, arts and crafts that didn't include making animal masks! Therians seem to adopt all play around being a therian and there lies the concern. A huge brainwashing identity that has striped other play from innocent children.

Wisteria has not answered my question as to how old they are. This could be a child.

And whatever age Wisteria is, this is either someone who is deluded or on the wind up.

I know/work with Psychologists and Psychiatrists - on speaking to them about this, their reply - '' 'therians' are mentally unwell, they are already coming into services, tell any parent to steer clear of this ridiculous and dangerous cult before it's too late".

Seriestwo · 02/08/2024 08:56

my kid went thorough a phase like this, stopped speaking and would only hop like a rabbit for a few weeks.
she was 4, thoigh. And it led to a desire for bunny duvet covers and bunny ears on a headband, mimicking Thumper a lot.

She was diagnosed autistic at 16, still loves rabbits but doesn’t think her inner essence is rabbit. She also doesn’t eat her own shit.

Mybusyday · 02/08/2024 11:40

@Wisteria123 - in the nicest possible way in asking - do you have a history of trauma or abuse or ptsd? If so I think you might need a bit of help in addressing something from your past, I don't think this is healthy

twinklystar23 · 28/09/2024 06:47

Children love fantasy my son used to jump around on all fours as spiderman. Wanted to wear his spiderman outfit all the time. Accepted there were times and places where it wasn't appropriate. Thank goodness it was 20yrs ago.

Calling them delusional is crazy

You can't see the irony here at all, can you? Why is it crazy? Some people are delusional. That isn't a moral judgement, it's a simple fact.

SpanielintheWorks · 12/11/2024 20:32

Is this the 2024 version of arguing how many angels can dance on a pinhead?
