What the fuck are Theriens?

My youngest DD (10) has taken a liking to jumping like an animal in the garden, drawing foxes, and wants me to buy her a mask and tail for her 11th birthday. She claims she's a "Therien" and feels like an animal. Apparently a few kids her age have gotten into it.

Mountain Wolf eh.

Funny how it's never a shrimp or a slug.

A bit like ghosts all being Victorian.

This! Why are they all prancing about as foxes and wolves. Tell her she can take part but only as an under represented amphibian.

In all seriousness, we all know that this sort of thing attracts children who are vulnerable and need to belong to something. I would be explaining this to my daughter. Yes some are just playing but some are mentally unwell and unable to separate this from real life. And some are manipulative predators.

I wouldn't buy my daughter a tail and ears. It might be innocent for her but it's a fetish for others. I would explain that to her. It would be like buying a playboy bunny outfit.

LaMadameCholet · 25/07/2024 22:43

Actually @Wysteria123, I have questions. How can a Therian possibly relate to a past life as a dragon when dragons are mythical creatures?
Are Therian notions of animal behaviours based on actual zoology or Disneyfied notions of animal behaviour?

fashionqueen0123 · 25/07/2024 22:43

I would ban any access to internet/social media where she could be coming across any of this rubbish. If it’s a friend they’ve no doubt got it off there. Glad she has spoken to you sensibly about it.

Honestly sounds like some people just need to get a hobby.

Tupperwarefan · 25/07/2024 22:46

I've only learned of this nonsense today on a couple of different websites including mumsnet. Never heard of it before. Just crazy

And we used to give ourselves names. Creative made up names. But it was just play. Nowadays adults do the same, but take themselves seriously.

I do wonder if generations of children not getting to play the way children have for centuries has led to a wave of adults acting out childish behaviour.

Actually a really good point.
@Wysteria123 of you truly believe the things you have written, please get some therapy.
You are living in a complete fantasy. It’s deeply concerning.

Okay then

Dragons aren't a real animal?

I'm all for being creative and imaginative at any age but there comes a point where it's important to draw a line between reality and fun.

winewolfhowls · 25/07/2024 22:49

Sorry just realised others had mentioned the dragon thing.

I have wondered this. I was big into creative play with my friends, but we grew up and grew out of it. Tv/ computers don’t allow for this play in the same way.

This is why kids need hobbies, proper hobbies that leave them without excessive amounts of time for navel gazing.

Yes @Wysteria123, do you rip apart and eat live rabbits and shit in a hole in the woods.

Or do you just like howling at the moon on a balmy evening (aka the nice bits)

Bearded dragons are real, maybe Wisteria has a beard? Although since menopause I seem to have one and I don’t identify with anything.

I think it’s something like one in 10 species of animals is a beetle. Where are the masses of beetle soul creatures?

Yourethebeerthief · 25/07/2024 23:00

@AShortName

Yes I grew up playing animal games and running about pretending to be cats/lions/wolves. From my experience it's a particularly female way to play. The boys were playing Power Rangers or football.

The Therian thing (along with a lot of the non-binary/neopronoun type stuff) is a mostly female mass delusion.

Young girls are growing up too fast. When I see so-called Therians and all the rest, I think they are quite literally developmentally stunted in this sense. They should have grown out of that nonsense.

Foxlover46 · 25/07/2024 23:04

I thought this has been a "thing " for a few years now ! I remember being a dinner lady and the year 6 kids claiming to be therians ( mostly cats ) and this was before lockdown

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/07/2024 23:05

‘ in the LGBTQ+ community (which I myself am), please, please, please support them‘

how surprising. Please, please, please LEAVE the Kids ALONE.

changedusernameforthis1 · 25/07/2024 23:06

I'd be very cautious. I'm in a fair few online trans groups and thankfully it's calmed down a bit now but a couple of years ago it was a huge thing to come out as. Some are harmless, just a little odd (to me), but quite a few took it very seriously and their whole lives revolved around it in a sexual way.

I doubt it's sexual for your daughter but definitely something to keep a close eye on.

Hi! Friendly therian talking here! Exclusing this to some people known as fake therians (you can guess from the name) fake being a therian, therianthropy is not a phase and can not be 'grown out of'. We don't choose it and we can't get rid of it, even if you wanted to. Being a therian isn't about acting like an animal as play, though most do quadrobics as a fun activity that makes them feel more animal-like.Therianthropy is when you identify as one, as many therians experience memories from their past lives as animals. On every level except physical, therians identify as their thereotypes and can relate to the animalistic behaviour of them. We do quadrobics on all fours to feel morre connected to our thereotypes, with mine being Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf, Scottish Fold, Cross Fox and Dragon. (Yes, you can have multiple thereotypes.) Being a therian isn't created by the internet, you are born with therianthropy, but seeing videos on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok might encourage you you're not alone in how you're feeling, that there are others just like you, and you don't feel so scared anymore. Therianthropy is also NOT from any TV shows, it is REAL LIFE, not just some thing we made up. It is us. We are it. Just like you could be autistic (which I am) or dyslexic, you are born with it and it's not inspired by anything other than our inner souls. But one thing I ask you, if your child comes out to you saying they're a therian or anything that is considered 'weird' by some of the community-whether they're a furry or quadrobist or in the LGBTQ+ community (which I myself am), please, please, please support them. It means so much to them if you support them, that they don't have to hide anything from you, that they feel safe, that they can be themselves and be free around you instead of trapped by those unspoken rules that make up 'the norm', and even if you try to beat it out of them, it's not going to work. Thanks for reading, and please no hate! 😺

Edited

I can't explain how happy this post made me.

Because it just gave me the feeling that maybe the kids are moving on from the gender nonsense to this new even more nonsensical nonsense.

I'm going to enjoy watching people try to #bekind all over this one in the same way.

Gowlett · 25/07/2024 23:10

Oh my God… I never read any stuff by the likes of our friendly therian type, conspiracy heads or fake news sites as I don’t want my perfectly good brain infected by any of it.

So, I can see how our kids, who are exposed to all sorts of shite online, get sucked in. I know I would have at that age… It’s absolutely terrifying. I’m stopping YouTube tomorrow!

sagalooshoe · 25/07/2024 23:13

Is being an adult Therian, a smokescreen for bestiality?

Gowlett · 25/07/2024 23:15

Also, as pointed out, running around pretending to be an animal is a perfectly normal children’s game. It’s just when this weird online community come into it & makes it into creepy shite…

Eggseggslegs · 25/07/2024 23:15

Just NO!!!

They’re trans and therien though, by the sounds of it. A PP stated that it’s a thing in the trans community, so it’s like some new hybrid has formed.

Bloody hell.

wisteria is running around on all fours pretending to be the dragon she was in a past life.

I have heard it all

intrigued by how it works if one was a fish in a past life

@Lemonrain well as a fish on land you wouldn’t last 5 seconds.

I think i would be a flying squirrel. As I love trees and the thought of gliding.
