Help! I hid my daughter's switch and now I'm in trouble!

So the story goes like this:
My pre-teen daughter was being naughty, didn't do as she was told (nicely), chatted back in a super-cheeky way, rolled her eyes, lied and then didn't do as she was told again. So I got very cross and took her Switch... And hid it somewhere in the house, told her she will get it back when her behaviour improves.
Fast forward a few weeks... I cannot find the bloody thing... I took apart the whole house... left no thing unturned. It's just gone. It's so strange. I usually remember where I put things. This time, it's like I have a black hole, it's like someone erased the memory of me hiding it. It's like I have an amnesia to this specific moment in time when I was hiding it. I know I hid it but I don't know where.
Since it was also my husband's Switch I am now having to buy him a new one... If I can't find it (deadline set to a week).

Any ideas of how to retrieve this memory please? Any strategies for finding lost subjects? I don't want to buy a new one, it's expensive! Sad

So surprised at everyone saying under your mattress... A couple of weeks under mine and it would be as flat as a pancake after I'd slept on it Blush

In the suitcases /little used bag at the back of the wardrobe /under bed

My mum did this with an original PlayStation when my brother was around the same age. She eventually replaced it and it turned up soon after, in a place she’d checked several times.

Pity it didn't turn up years later, I believe they're worth lots of money now. 😆

@Phepho

In a box or a cube with a cut out hole. I have a knack for "seeing" lost items
Oh my - I read this first off as when something was lost, you walked around with a box on your head, looking through a hole in it, and that helped you find things!

A switch without a case wouldnt survive being under a mattress for long anyway.

Can you please locate my lost waistline Grin
milkyaqua · 27/10/2021 07:59

Ask St Anthony to help you find it - works every time, usually quite swiftly - and say thank you.

notapineapple · 27/10/2021 08:00

Is there not a thing with the switch where you can ping the controllers? Possibly via the app. I have a brief recollection of doing this when my eldest had set them to start vibration and sounding an alarm at 3am

LindaEllen · 27/10/2021 08:01

@WhiskyXray

Is it a toy? Why would your husband need it?

Could you have shoved it in the loft?

You do know that LOTS of adults game, right? I have a Switch, my partner uses it too, several of my friends have them, my brother has them, and lots of my friends are PC gamers. It's escapism, it's good.
Helenluvsrob · 27/10/2021 08:06

She’s knicked it back - especially if she hasn’t been fussing about it being taken still …

MydogWilloTheWispEvilEdna · 27/10/2021 08:11

I've sometimes hidden confiscated things in the back of baking tin drawer or in a drawer than no-one uses.

If it was done as a quick putaway, it'll be at the back somewhere.

If you replay the scene in your head by going back to the place you made the decision then it may come to your mind.

Would love to think the pp "seeing" is true. Please let it be there. I also envisaged wandering around with a cut out box to look through Grin

Or will be interesting if St.Anthony worked too

undersleptagain · 27/10/2021 08:13

I have done this so many times, I always try to retrace my steps on the day, sometimes it works. But you can guarantee that the minute you buy a new one the old one will magically appear.

Theunamedcat · 27/10/2021 08:17

I've done this loads its usually in the gas cupboard or on my bookcase just out of my eyeline

oakleaffy · 27/10/2021 08:26

@Northernsoullover
If you can ''See'' where I lost a small, silver leaf shaped silver pendant, I will be overjoyed.

@supercalifragilicious
My instinctive thought was that your daughter has it already.

gogohm · 27/10/2021 08:29

Linen cupboard was my go to

itsgettingwierd · 27/10/2021 08:32

@lnsufficientFuns

This has happened to me SO many times 🤣

It’s like I just don’t even register where i put it

Favourite places: husbands office, high up on one of the bookcases or under my own bed

Recently I’ve taken to snapping a photo of its location to jog my memory!

That's genius! I'm definitely taking photos of where I've left things in future.

Starting with my car in car parks Grin

I suspect someone has hidden it from you. You'll buy and new one and it turns up.

Husband and dd have 1 each

Essen · 27/10/2021 08:35

Did you take it to work?

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 27/10/2021 08:35

My hiding places include:

On top of kitchen cupboards
Secret compartment in the car
With Christmas decorations
Spirits cupboard
Inside jam pan
In their bedroom (quite proud of this one!)

dworky · 27/10/2021 08:37

Are you sure she hasn't found it?

moomoogalicious · 27/10/2021 08:44

100% your dd has it. I have 3 teens 🙄

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 27/10/2021 08:45

assuming your dd hasn’t found it already, you could go all crime scene reconstruction on this. Can you assemble as much of the memory as you can? Put on the clothes you were wearing, try to remember what you were going to do next on the day you hid it, stand where you stood when you took it off her at the same time of day (morning/afternoon). The more detail the better. It may help to jog your memory.
another poster up thread’s suggestion of hiding the charger is genius though if your dd has already found it 😀

Starsong82 · 27/10/2021 08:46

I lost my toddlers kindle fire for a month after hiding it. Eventually found it in a folded up stack of towels 🤦‍♀️

Thebookswereherfriends · 27/10/2021 08:47

Under a bookcase right at the back in the shadows where you can’t see it just by looking! My dd “hid” the remote control when she was 2 and I didn’t find it for about 3 months because of that location!
