Help! I hid my daughter's switch and now I'm in trouble!

So the story goes like this:
My pre-teen daughter was being naughty, didn't do as she was told (nicely), chatted back in a super-cheeky way, rolled her eyes, lied and then didn't do as she was told again. So I got very cross and took her Switch... And hid it somewhere in the house, told her she will get it back when her behaviour improves.
Fast forward a few weeks... I cannot find the bloody thing... I took apart the whole house... left no thing unturned. It's just gone. It's so strange. I usually remember where I put things. This time, it's like I have a black hole, it's like someone erased the memory of me hiding it. It's like I have an amnesia to this specific moment in time when I was hiding it. I know I hid it but I don't know where.
Since it was also my husband's Switch I am now having to buy him a new one... If I can't find it (deadline set to a week).

Any ideas of how to retrieve this memory please? Any strategies for finding lost subjects? I don't want to buy a new one, it's expensive! Sad

Post on a tech forum for ways you can tell if it’s in use.

FortunesFave · 27/10/2021 06:13

It's not there because your DD found it and has hidden it.

LaurenKelsey · 27/10/2021 06:29

If it turns out that your DD has it hidden, I would think of a very appropriate consequence for her actions. I’d be fuming.

Mmmmdanone · 27/10/2021 06:33

Oh god this brings back memories of the Christmas present i hid last November and still haven't found. I think I/someone else must have thrown it in the bin by accident.

gamerchick · 27/10/2021 06:40

It's probably standing on its edge somewhere. Unless it has the coloured joycons you simply may not be seeing it. Like in a handbag or something.

Go back to the room where you took it from her and take the same path you would naturally from that room.

hellcatspangle · 27/10/2021 06:43

I also reckon the daughter found it and it's hidden in her room, she's obviously pretending she hasn't got it as she knows she'd be in trouble. Take her room apart.

MyOtherProfile · 27/10/2021 06:48

Another vote for under the mattress. Or under your daughter's mattress!

sashh · 27/10/2021 06:54

Just a thought, maybe your husband has it but wants a new one he doesn't have to share.

Keepthechangefilthyanimal · 27/10/2021 07:08

When you confiscated it, where were you in the house? Go back to that conversation. Take time to think about what you were doing.

I think your DD possibly has it.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/10/2021 07:11

Did you hide in the car/garage/shed? Did you give to a friend or relative to look after?

ApolloandDaphne · 27/10/2021 07:14

What about in a bookshelf maybe behind the books? Between jumpers wherever you store them? In a suitcase or bag?

balzamico · 27/10/2021 07:15

Under the flap in your car boot where the spare wheel goes? In the garage/ potting shed/ greenhouse?
Just thinking that if you have genuinely taken the house apart, did you maybe put it outside the house somewhere?

LynetteScavo · 27/10/2021 07:16

It's in your wardrobe or airing cupboard shoved between some folder jumpers / sheets. Or in the box of gifts you buy in the sale incase DD is invited to a party at short notice. hopefully my DD never reads this

Umpapa · 27/10/2021 07:19

What colour is it? Could it be facing down on a similar coloured towel or something? I always slide things into my top cupboard under clothes or on a bookcase with a book in front of it.

zaffa · 27/10/2021 07:20

@Phepho

In a box or a cube with a cut out hole. I have a knack for "seeing" lost items
Do you? Can you tell me where DD stuffed Owl is? I'm certain it's been lost in the house but I've turned it upside down and I am desperate
LynnInAVan · 27/10/2021 07:22

@sashh I’m with you

ChikiTIKI · 27/10/2021 07:24

Sometimes when I am looking for something I make the mistake of looking for only that colour of item. However when things are hidden they might at a glance appear differently. So you need to pick up every item in each room, examine it, look inside it, before moving on to the next.

Hope you find it!

rjacksmiss · 27/10/2021 07:25

Could it be under a bed or under a mile of washing or something? Were you in a rush to hide it?

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 27/10/2021 07:29

@donotdisturbmode

Your husband probably has it 😂
Maybe he's after an upgrade to the new one.
APerfectSky · 27/10/2021 07:31

Does she have a switch case? Did you maybe pit it in there so you're looking for the wrong colour (eg my son's switch has the blue joy cons but a red case, so rather that concentrating on blue/black, I'd have to look for red).

Phepho · 27/10/2021 07:33

@zaffa in a pillow case? Definitely something thin and a bit loose, baggy. All wrapped up in it

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/10/2021 07:34

It’ll be like this lost iPad!

My ex husband hid away an expensive watch for “safe keeping” and couldn’t find it so I bought him a new one.
A few years later it was found in a pair of dress shoes.

Help! I hid my daughter's switch and now I'm in trouble!
SuperSange · 27/10/2021 07:40

I hide my sons iPad or switch under the mattress on my bed. Other places; on top of the fridge or kitchen cupboards, in my shoe cupboard or on top of a tall bookcase.

Please let this be true Grin
SunShinesBrightly · 27/10/2021 07:42

Have you put it in a pair of boots, wrapped it in a sock, under tea towels or towels, in with filing Cabinet documents, behind a book, in a bag you don’t use often, in a suitcase...
