Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

me too Pemberley. Went to Waitrose this morning. Most people there with full trolleys. Spoke to lady on till, I agreed with her when she said she was scared.

So many people without a clue. Went to my therapist this morning, works in room on side of her house. Offered to wash my hands, she said oh I don't think I'm at that stage yet. Hmmm

Pluckedpencil · 12/03/2020 13:23

Hi preppers. I am living through the reality of quarantine in Italy.

Someone asked about printer cartridges and Amazon. Amazon are still delivering. I'm hesitant to touch the parcels though honestly.

We don't have online shopping here, but even small local supermarkets are offering to deliver by sending through a list to avoid shopping. The coffee bar will even deliver you a coffee or ice-cream. Theses guys still need to grey to work.

The hairdressers are shut, as are beauticians. I wouldn't want to be in that close proximity anyway at the moment.
We are allowed to go for a packet of cigarettes or a paper, but have to carry an autocertification to confirm where we live and where and why we are moving.

I would buy paper for kids to do drawings, flour, butter and eggs to make cakes because it's boring, printer cartridges for all the school work being printed at home, and make sure you have a robust internet connection!

Ask me if you have specific questions. Groceries here and toilet roll are all as normal!

Fully expecting "lets get Corona Virus DONE!" sigh.

itsnotjustflu · 12/03/2020 13:30

and me @sprayitall
good luck @pemberlyshades

12:09 headline on BBC news was a man stood outside no.10 and it saying they weren't going to shut schools....why all this drama then FFS get on with the real announcement

colouringinpro · 12/03/2020 13:30

mojo great idea. just suggested this on my towns Facebook group to find someone's beaten me to it. Could be a really positive side effect of this pandemic

Readyme · 12/03/2020 13:31

@Pluckedpencil how are the kids reacting especially younger children who might not fully understand what's going on?

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2020 13:32

We actually have a very lovely community where I live, one of the reasons I adore it!

But yes...I think a bit of community spirit could be a good outcome for many places.

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 13:32

I wish they’d just get a move on

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 13:39

Me too. I'm in my stakeout position! I've got a banging headache and still got my cough.
What are the rules on self isolating when you have to do school runs etc?

DontGoOrGo · 12/03/2020 13:42

NC for this. Looking for advice.

I have several preexisting medical conditions. Separately I have a routine opthalmology check this month at Thomas's in London. I don't want to travel into London at the moment. Being opthalmology it involves up close face to face contact. What would you do in my position? This would be the second cancellation as I had a family emergency. The appointment's been brought forward to next week incidentally. I've heard rumours all outpatients cancelled from end of March.

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 13:44

goordontgo - I heard outpatients from next week? And someone posted on the other thread the same. Knowing someone in the NHS . this has been confirmed at at least one hospital, but just not announced yet.

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 13:51

Another thing I've noticed (and so has my mum- NHS community worker) is that there are a LOT more ambulances around. Just driving to DDs school I saw three. Saw two more when I popped to the shops earlier.

DontGoOrGo · 12/03/2020 13:51

It was brought forward to next week from the week after. Looks like they plan close down week after next. I'd be delighted if they closed down earlier. I'm going to call and postpone. I can't be the only patient worried. It's a central London hospital.

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 13:51

@DontGoOrGo Don’t go would be my advice if the problem can wait and is non urgent

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 13:52

I'd say don't go too

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 13:53

@pemberlyshades wondering why 🤔 are there more local cases? I’m dreading today’s numbers

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2020 13:53

They are just arriving for the COBRA meeting now according to Sky

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 13:56

@wheresmymojo sky also reported there wouldn’t be any mass closures of schools - drives me insane

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 13:56

@wheresmymojo I thought they were already in there! Gah. Feel a bit stupid now. I guess we find out later tonight.

I will stakeout until the numbers come out. I can't pull her from school until I know work will back me up.

I don't know what to do for the best! We need some clear guidance and leadership NOW!!!

Pluckedpencil · 12/03/2020 13:57

@Readyme, in the first two weeks DD age 4 asked every day if she was going to nursery. Now her and DS 8 have understood this is a virus and we need to stay inside. The teachers sent a WhatsApp explaining it in terms of Noah's arc, and said at the end of this there will be a rainbow and everyone will be back together again. She misses her little friends. At first there were play dates but now we can't visit other people's houses.

aliasname · 12/03/2020 13:57

Thanks to those who replied to my questions about Amazon deliveries. I've also found this guidance from the Italian government:

*The Italian post office is operating as normal, and that includes air mail, except for in the Lombardy region – the area worst hit by the outbreak.

Everywhere else, the only change during the quarantine period is that postal workers will now be leaving mail and parcels in hallways rather than delivering them by hand in oder to avoid physical contact. Amazon deliveries are still arriving as normal as of Tuesday.*

TBH I'm surprised at places like amazon still open. If most other businesses have to close, and I worked in their warehouse I'd be annoyed that they weren't following policy. It's hardly essential services?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 12/03/2020 13:59

Oh, I’ve got a prepping question. I’m freezing eggs today. I’m planning on separating some first. Does anyone know if previously frozen egg whites will whip up ok?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 14:01

I’m fine .. 😬 (Manically refreshing the number of cases page)

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 14:01

Radio 2 have been saying the Cobra meeting has been in session since 11.30!
