Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

The DM wrote an article saying that’s what Boris Johnson is going to do, but it has no source given if you read it. I’m very much hoping it’s nonsense (like much of the Daily Mail!). Surely we have to be putting measures into place now?!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 12/03/2020 12:50

For all worried about keeping children with compromised immunity in school or otherwise, a caller to the James O’Brien show on LBC earlier said her sister, whose DD has various serious conditions, had raised the issue with her Head Teacher. He called her back from the car for an off the record conversation. He told her, unofficially, that in her position he would keep DD away from school.

Obviously, this is a random, anonymous caller to a radio show so I can’t comment on the veracity of it. Thought I should pass it in though. Hopefully the announcement later will be schools closure and the decision will be made for you.

@AmelieTaylor - thank you for the advice re DH. It takes so long and so much effort to get him showered and dressed in the morning I’d have zero chance of getting him to shower and change again when he gets home. However, he’d had a change of heart overnight and thankfully decided not to go - I think reading your comments to him helped seal the deal so thank you. 🙂 Such a relief.

DM says “signs are” he won’t restrict, but it looks like just rumours, actually

Radio 2 said Cobra meeting due to finish at 1.15

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 12:52

It was ITV as well, but keep in mind it was 9 am this morning, before both scotland and ireland announced and the cobra meeting.

I'm getting lots of half panicked and vague "brace yourself" messages this morning from people I know in different organisations. Schools are prepping for something, something is happening in NHS today.

I'm in self isolation till late next week. On the one hand I'm frustrated I can't do any last minute bits. I've just got to trust what I've already done. On the other hand, it's kid of a freedom. I don't have to rush about anywhere, I don't even have to be obsessed with cleaning/disinfecting as there are no viruses going in our out of my house at the moment! We've been able to cut out obsessive hand washing! 2 days in and I've not seen any holes in our prep. I probably should ease up on going through my stash of crisps though Grin

Kirschcherry · 12/03/2020 12:57

@Ahoynoy Hi, do you mean it looks like there is more than one case of covid 19 in Morriston? I’m local and wondering at what point to push my vulnerable parents to self isolate. Thank you

Blueberryham · 12/03/2020 12:58

Secondary schools are generally over 500. Outs certainly is. As is the local primary. But I assume these would be expense from this rule?

Blueberryham · 12/03/2020 12:59

*exempt

LinzerTorte · 12/03/2020 12:59

@itsnotjustflu Schools in Austria are closing from Monday (until after Easter) for over 14 year olds. From Wednesday onwards, it's recommended you keep under 14s at home but you can send them in if you don't have childcare (we've been told not to use grandparents for childcare).

preponderings · 12/03/2020 13:00

858 cases in Switzerland. No mention of closing schools...

Blueberryham · 12/03/2020 13:01

That sounds like a sensible rule linzer

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 12/03/2020 13:02

@NatoPMT - your Head sounds amazing! 🙂

Hope you have good news today re your friend’s health.

@middleager posted the Jaws mayor meme which I found very amusing. And then I discovered Johnson actually once named the mayor in Jaws as his political hero. Because he kept the beaches open... Confused

Mum sent me the Mail headline and I went nuts and the realised it was The Mail making shit up as per usual. She seemed surprised they would do that. Hopefully it’s taught her a valuable lesson Grin

Ahoynoy · 12/03/2020 13:06

@Kirschcherry yes that is what I was lead to believe- at least one critically ill in there and potentially others not. Anaesthetist indicated my operation may be cancelled next week due to corona pressures. (It’s urgent and ill be having it if they have the space as I’ll likely end up admitted even if I don’t have it 😩)

Orchidflower1 · 12/03/2020 13:09

Argh I just met another “ it’s only fluer”. Ffs

itsnotjustflu · 12/03/2020 13:09

@linzertorte thank you added to the list

Kirschcherry · 12/03/2020 13:11

@Ahoynoy thank you. I hope your op goes ahead and you get home quickly 💐

tryingtoprep · 12/03/2020 13:13

Just managed to catch up.

I feel sick and increasingly vulnerable being in the UK (excepting Scotland). Helplessly watching as the rest of the world takes actions to protect their populations. I would never want to wish Covid on anyone but a tiny part of me thinks Karma if BJ caught it. Our government's policy is utterly immoral. If only the Labour Party would sort itself out. This situation is why we need a strong opposition whoever's in power. Someone to call the government to account.

A rented holiday home in the Scottish Highlands looks ever more appealing.

The US. Bizarre decision. On the face of it they're taking measures but it's pointless if they don't include the UK on their flight ban. We're on our way to being the plague country of Europe.

itsnotjustflu · 12/03/2020 13:14

Does anyone else have butterflies? I feel sick with worry

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 13:18

@itsnotjustflu same feeling here. But I am seeing the life around me so normal that sometimes makes me wonder if I am over reacting?

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 13:18

Me. I feel like we are on the edge of something. I don't care if that sounds dramatic. I'm off to stakeout DDs school and watch the news on my phone

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2020 13:20

Someone has just set up a 'Coronavirus Community Support Group' for our village on Facebook for those self isolating, anyone who needs any assistance and anyone can help...
