Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Thanks for that, Bellini I reckon I've got most of the stuff I need to make it.

Wow. Bank of England have cut interest rates down to lowest in history @ 0.25% to help the Economy.

I thought I’d lost everyone!

I’m looking forward to going to work today as my boss is the only person IRL that doesn’t think I’m overreacting to this. He runs a B&B as well and has been quietly prepping in order to lock down as he looks after his elderly mother and sibling.

hankyspanky · 11/03/2020 07:24

Has anyone notice the glaring discrepancy in 'official' advice to what MP's etc are being told to do today.

Everyone who's been in contact with the MP who tested positive (I wish her a speedy recovery) has been told to attend parliament today??

PHE if you've been in contact with a known case then self isolate Hmm

Here you all are! Thanks for starting the new thread @fuckthiswind

I chopped about 5 onions yesterday and froze, two small tubs of mushrooms and lots of lemons, I cut them into quarters so I hope they work when defrosted for cooking.

Years ago, can't remember which government, got stuck on a train in their way to their conference and then they did something about trains.
Maybe now it's come to Westminster, they will act. Now they directly face the threat. My younger dd has chesty cough.
I'm not worried about that per see yet. I keep an eye on it but if numbers soar by weekend I may try and keep her off next week and between myself and dh take turns to stay with her. Once we are through next week maybe better action will be taken to shut things down.

One question. How do people know what a peak is at all?
Eg, experts say once the virus can't transmit, through people, that's it. So how do we know how many people it will infect? Remove the virus transmission, ie people, it will fizzle out.

Don't remove them, what on earth is the peak!

Facingtheunkown · 11/03/2020 07:34

Friend in China said things are slowly creeping back to normal. But she's aghast at how relaxed UK, us and Poland is. Her mum is immune compromised and someone with this in her town has it, and is not self isolating and nothing is being done about it!

Pegase · 11/03/2020 07:36

Thanks for the measured responses to my previous post. As I said, I am only in a position of being adequately prepped due to following the motivation here.

@RedLentilYellowLentil I meant the medical experts like CMOs and SAGE members who presumably have oversight of the whole picture rather than individual GPs for example. Case in point - some medical staff complaining there is no PPE when the action plan states it has been stockpiled already and is now being distributed.

@Readyme I am a prepper and have been on this board since before Brexit and before COVID19 (mostly following @bellinisurge's excellent advice!) so I don't have an ethical concern about criticising the government (plus I work in education so par for the course!) But I think you have to also understand how difficult this is to operate. To increase testing we need to get more labs trained and bio secure to handle pandemic samples. Hospitals need to prepare to be divided in two. I am a school leader and we have been prepping for school closure since at least the beginning of last week and we won't be ready until mid next week at the earliest. And to achieve that I feel like I am currently working two jobs. Putting into place plans just isn't as easy as it sounds. And I am making decisions to affect a couple of thousand people not millions.

I would love to stop going into work - I am mostly prepped and I'm also pregnant but that is not the same as a national closure being mandated.

The action plan is here by the way if anyone hasn't read it yet. www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-action-plan/coronavirus-action-plan-a-guide-to-what-you-can-expect-across-the-uk

One Premiership football game cancelled now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2020 07:53

111 on the phone say that if you've been in contact with a known infection then you can carry on as normal til you show symptoms.

HasaDigaEebowai · 11/03/2020 07:54

I’m not finding anything about peak lasting 9-12 weeks, only start of growth to end of new infections starting March and end of peak drop to less than 10% in June

So the whole rise then drop lasting 9-12 weeks Can anyone clarify?

That isn't what was said. They said 90% of cases would "hit the NHS" (i.e require NHS intervention) over a condensed 9 week period and 50% of cases would hit the NHS in a three week period. They didn't say when that period would be or when it would start. So if we got say 100,000 cases in total over the entire period of the crisis then we are nowhere near the start of that period yet. So they're trying to time things so that they can judge when the 90% of cases are going to hit the NHS and try to ensure that we have maximum capacity to deal with them at that time. The whole strategy is based around this.

It's grim for those planning use of NHS resources.

I'm not sure this has been shared on this thread but this is the advice being given by a large national chain of vets which confirms the position re pets.

"If you have been in contact with a person with coronavirus, or you have signs of coronavirus, advice is to call the NHS 111 service.

If you have a pet in a household with an infected person, you must contact your vet for advice. You will be asked to tell your local health protection team, who will then contact APHA and DEFRA to inform them that a pet is present in the household.

If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, please limit contact with your pet(s). If your pet is ill, or you are worried about your pet, please call us on 01932 565082 and we can advise you. Please do not bring your pet to the vet, or ask anyone else to, until you have spoken to us and we have advised you on the best course of action.

Can I get coronavirus from my pet?

We think that COVID-19 originated in wild animals (bats), and spread to humans. Being infected with a virus, and being infectious (being able to pass a virus on) are two different things.

From our understanding so far about COVID-19, based on the infected dog in Hong Kong, the virus was present, but this did not mean the dog was infectious to humans or to other animals.

As far as we know, domestic pets cannot transmit COVID-19 to humans.

Can my pet get coronavirus?

As far as we understand, pets may carry COVID-19, but it does not seem to cause any problems for them. They may carry the virus, but are not infectious to humans or other animals.

However, Public Health England recommend that if you are confirmed as having COVID-19, you should limit contact with your pet, wear a mask and wash your hands well.

What if I think my pet has caught COVID-19?

Firstly you should contact your local health protection team. Then you should contact us, so that we can give you the most up-to-date and appropriate advice on how to obtain veterinary care for your pet.

What about other coronaviruses?

Just like in human 'flu, there are different strains of coronaviruses. These viruses can cause different problems in dogs and cats, such as coughing, sneezing or diarrhoea. however, importantly, these strains ARE NOT COVID-19.

You may read about FIP, and canine coronavirus, but these viruses are not COVID-19 and cannot change into COVID-19, so there is no need to worry if your pet has been previously diagnosed with a canine or feline coronavirus."

@Posharmchairs can I ask if you use liners in your dehydrator?

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 08:00

Thanks for new thread.

Was catching up over coffee first thing this morning and i could feel my heart rate rising and adrenalin pumping as i read. This is going to get really hairy. I am so angry with our government for prioritising economy over lives Angry

Spoke with my folks and i will meet them tomorrow to hand over some masks and rubbing alcohol that we have in our stock for them and my dsis.

KimonoKim · 11/03/2020 08:19

Feeling slightly on edge this morning. My DD was sick yesterday and has barely eaten anything since. I know it's not one of the symptoms but I can't help feeling like "is this it?... What I've prepped for, am I fully ready"

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 08:27

Thanks for the thread! I thought I'd lost you!
They are doing community testing as of today so the numbers will probably jump dramatically quite soon. I suppose they had to, seeing as though Nadine hadn't been on holiday but got a test anyway..

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 08:29

Thanks for the new thread. Checking in for another day of fun.
Woke up to pee at 2am (thanks pregnancy bladder) and made the mistake of checking facebook. The 'it's only flu' brigade had me in a blind rage and I was seething so much I couldn't get back to sleep! I stopped myself from writing a lengthly, ranty post, but only just.

FuckThisWind · 11/03/2020 08:29

We have appt for DD at GP's this morning as she looks like crap, has what seems to be an infected spot on her lip, has no energy. Thought it was going to be a flare up of her usual UTIs. But not so far. She feels sick but hasn't been sick. Got asked the questions expected about travel and exposure to affected areas/ cases. It's my favourite GP. May ask her off the record about withdrawing due to current circs + personal health issues / immediate family vulnerability. I know whe probably won't say, but I'll get an idea I reckon.

How old is your DD @KimonoKim
One thing I do feel is prepared (whether DD just off a few days or otherwise)

@HasaDigaEebowai - someone on the thread said it but I’ve looked at the graphs now - thanks for pet info

Thanks for the new thread 🌷

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2020 08:47

I'm sorry for the poorly dc. Unfortunately there are still other bugs around.

Can I suggest that people leave mobiles off and away from their bedrooms at night, if thats possible. Those who are close to me know that at night time then can ring the landline if there is an emergency, other than that my bedroom is a tech free zone to ensure that I don't wind myself up in the middle of the night.

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 08:48

@ohyoubadbadkitten yes I think I need to start doing that!
How are you - how are things at work?

Pinkfizzy · 11/03/2020 08:55

Definitely use silicon liners. Used to be able to get them in poundland but quite floppy. Just be careful as you remove tray as the fruit really doesn't stick, so easy to slide off onto the floor!

Pinkfizzy · 11/03/2020 08:56

Sorry: silicon sheet advice for @84TinsOfBeans

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2020 08:57

Things are challenging rhij, despite mitigation, its having a big impact on income. I'm also feeling utterly enraged by local social media, so I'm off for a run before I get stuck into my day.

babychange12 · 11/03/2020 08:58

Delurking.. news from Italy has been worrying me. Where can I get masks from?
