Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Re coughs and what it means, expert on the radio has just said "any cough that is not the norm for you"

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:18

My friend is an HR manager in a big hospital in Bristol, they have worked out if the schools shut they will definitely have nowhere near enough nursing staff as so many will have to stay home to look after children - well over 60% . They don’t want children to be looked after by G parents as they’re more vulnerable . Total unsolvable nightmare!

RhubarbTea · 12/03/2020 18:20

I also feel too shocked to be angry. I know conspiracy theories aren't ideal at this point but I am unable to stop thinking about the idea that they are letting loads of older people die because of the welfare bill and just generally to ease pressure on resources.
I didn't want to entertain that idea (who wants to live in a country where there is even the smallest sliver of doubt about that kind of thing? It's horrendous) but the longer time goes on and they do nothing the worse it looks. I'm so embarrassed to live in this country.

They've now got medical and virus experts left right and centre telling them they are fools, and they are still ploughing on regardless! It's like some horrible dream Sad One that's been going on for a really long time, and is really detailed. I want to wake up.

FuckThisWind · 12/03/2020 18:20

Indeed @Ladyellow. It's depressing. This is not 'Delay' in any sense of the word by our Govt. This is 'Let it spread'

Folks, we are going to need a new thread tonight. I'm happy to start a holding thread 14 in advance now, unless anyone else would like to do the honours?

Does this mean they won’t test anymore of the people to confirm if they have covid? Also what about any people who can be a confirmed case or contacts of confirmed case - don’t they need to self isolate until they show symptoms like cough?

CakeOnMe · 12/03/2020 18:22

Has anyone got figures regarding those in their 20s who have underlying health conditions such as heart disease? We’re constantly hearing about elderly with heath conditions, but what about those of us who are young but still faced with them?😥

Miaowse · 12/03/2020 18:22

They were also honest and said there’s probably about 10000 people with it if we have 500 confirmed cases. BUT in a way that’s good- it means 9500 aren’t ill enough to see a dr

IMV that’s a disingenuous argument - there is plenty of evidence that people who do seek medical assistance for symptoms are being told they don’t qualify for testing for CV.

Also, reading between the lines, most of the deaths to date seem to have been via community spread, with cases only being picked up in ICU, rather than as a result of contact tracing/symptoms developing after travel to known hotspots, so how can they persist in this idea that only people who have known contact or travel exposure should be tested??

Miaowse · 12/03/2020 18:25

@CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring

Was it this one?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 18:26

@CakeOnMe Wondering that too

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 18:26

Also what to do if the cough lasts more than 7 days? Continue to work or self isolate?

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2020 18:28

@CakeOnMe I don't believe that there are any figures on that yet.

What concerned me today is that apparently in Lombardy as of yesterday the median age of people in intensive care was 65.

That being - there were as many people under 65 in intensive care as there were patients over 65

FuckThisWind · 12/03/2020 18:29

Many more questions than answers for us I'm afraid. We can only hope that things may move forward in the next 48 hours or so. The Govt know for a fact they can't spin this out much longer!

I thought this was quite interesting in terms of the symptoms and what order they present:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/woman-coronavirus-explains-what-its-21680170

For us it was headache, fever (for first 3 days consistently and then on and off after 3 days), severe body aches and joint pain, and severe fatigue.

I had a fever that spiked the first night to 103 degrees and eventually came down to 100 and then low grade 99.5.

Some folks had diarrhea. I felt nauseous one day. Once the fever is gone some were left with nasal congestion, sore throat.

Only a very few of us had a mild itchy cough. Very few had chest tightness or other respiratory symptoms.

FuckThisWind · 12/03/2020 18:35

That's what concerns me most, @Miaowse
There is a huge variance in the symptoms. Yet the advice / makn symptoms remain the same according to official advice. So many of us could have it. May only have had one or two symptoms.

Miaowse · 12/03/2020 18:43

They should be going all out to test as many people as possible. If the grand plan really is to let as many people as possible get it so as to confer herd immunity then surely they need accurate stats.

Miaowse · 12/03/2020 18:45

Apologies for all the posts in a row Blush I think a few people ordered pulse oximeters recently - any comments on quality/ accuracy?

FuckThisWind · 12/03/2020 18:48

Agree, Miaowse

I'm going to prepare thread 14 now, if that's ok (prepper my name, prepper by nature) I shan't link to it, as we should use this one up first. But as there aren't many posts left on this one, I thought I may as well get the next ready. It will be on the Preppers board though.

I have a family member that works in a school and executives have told them all home resources must be ready for close of play tomorrow. He is not sure where or if the information is coming from to the executives but that is what is being passed on to the teaching staff.

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 18:52

Can someone link t the normalcy bias thing again and the adjustment affect? Or give a brief overview I can copy and paste to explain to someone?

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 18:54

Also what to do if the cough lasts more than 7 days? Continue to work or self isolate?

I think the situation will probably have evolved within 7 days anyway and so the rules will be stricter by then. I think that might be the rationale behind limiting it to 7 days. Maximise the number of people who think "oh god that's a pain but its only seven days so I'll comply"

In 7 days' time we'll probably be looking at much bigger groups/categories of people being told to self isolate

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 18:56

I think, given the above info from a PP in a school and the other info regarding 20/3 or ten days, I think that was his way of leading up to closures and lockdowns.

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2020 19:04

Macron is delivering a speech right now apparently...

Will be interesting to see what the tone and outcome is.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 12/03/2020 19:06

There has been nothing.of the sort in my school. I think schools are as in the dark as everybody else.

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 12/03/2020 19:07

Yes it was Miaowse! Thank you
You are very clever to understand what I was trying to explain

itsnotjustflu · 12/03/2020 19:11

What in God's name do we do now. It's like they're forcing us to mix by saying we have to draw this out and it will take months. This is in unfair and this phase needs to pee off. There is no way we are that far behind Italy. I think they want the country to keep going no matter what and that most of us will get it over time. I'm beyond upset, very scared and very worried
