Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

@FuckThisWind

She's 4. Just a tummy bug I expect. I didn't sleep too well last night and that normally niggles at my anxiety. In all honest I don't think I could be anymore prepared than I am.

Sorry about you DC aswell. It's horrible when they're poorly. Hope she feels better soon Thanks

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 08:59

@ohyoubadbadkitten hope you can enjoy your run! I wish I could say I hope work gets better soon but... well you know.
Thinking of you.

@NatoPMT - how is your friend? Sorry if I've missed an update (last I saw he was told by 111 to go to the gp?)

NatoPMT · 11/03/2020 09:09

Rhij - thanks for asking. He’s developing breathing difficulties but is managing, I haven’t heard from him since yesterday so not sure how he was last night. I’ve told him again to self isolate, his gf said again last night that he’s only got the flu but without having that confirmed, they are both being way too flippant with their behaviour and social contact. Because they haven’t been told directly to isolate, they aren’t.

I’ve got a friend in Manchester on her “4th day of shivering and shaking” who has been told by 111 that they won’t test her. Several of her friends are posting that they have the same bug

I have a friend in Washington State who’s 7yo has “influenza type B”

I’ve NEVER had so many friends with flu

Never.

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:14

@NatoPMT I'm so sorry you and all your friends are going through this!

I really hope, especially now that we are seeing high profile figures who have contracted CV without being to at risk countries etc, that more widespread testing will occur. It will mean a big/scary jump in numbers but I do think it will just mean the actual numbers are being more accurately reported.

I hope that there are sufficient tests made available to allow this, and it means that many more people (your friends included) will get a proper diagnosis, and the help they need.

@Facingtheunkown

Checking in. Re the peak. We wont know its peaked until it falls away again. There is no way to know what our numbers will be unfortunately.

Probably best on that to listen to WHO and prof Witty who are scientists. Very worse case 80% infected ( but over what time frame he didnt say) at its peak 1 in 5 off work.

Therefore we can guess SHTF situation and peak when 20% population currently ill.

Legoandloldolls · 11/03/2020 09:20

Today I'm.going to concentrate on my mental health ( while following here of course!)

Jobs are washing all bedding
Sorting my blasted holiday insurance ( presuming we have had it and recovered come July)
Checking my prep
Seeing what I have spare for mum and her elderly neighbour ready to visit them asap
Check my fricking Tesco order!
Going for a walk
Sewing

So if anyone can find me another 10 ten hours I a day I should be busy

I am also laying up bottom sheets and fleece blankets on the toddlers beds in case I get I'll. I can just peel off each layer if I'm unwell 😉

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 09:21

Ok called the school to inform my dd won’t come as there was a local case etc but the call was forwarded to one who thinks because everyone has come you should also come and follow the national government guidance rule. That person is literally bullying and trying to pull words from my mouth saying that my action of keeping dd home shows we don’t trust the staffs of the school and I am undervaluing the amount of learning and education my child misses on etc. How do you even handle it. Today it’s going to be unauthorised absence but I feel so bad in being labelled as a person panicking unnecessarily and Pooh poohed like that.

fessmess2 · 11/03/2020 09:24

The panic is palpable. What are we teaching our children! We can manage these problems that come without stock piling and pulling kids from school. Put it in proportion people!

Readyme · 11/03/2020 09:25

@babychange12 check hardware stores like B&Q ideal is PF3 but even lower PF2 give you 80% protection.
You can also buy respirator masks with filters the masks average about £20 with the filters being around £10 per pair.
Unfortunately most places sold out a couple of weeks ago but some might have new stock.
I would personally spend my time tracking down nitrate gloves.
Eye protection is also something to think about too most hardware shops sell goggles too, avoid the ones with vents at the side.

WelliAmNot · 11/03/2020 09:26

“York MP Rachel Maskell has confirmed that she has been advised to self-isolate after having a meeting with Nadine Dorris last Thursday - she says that she is asymptomatic.“-The Guardian

Readyme · 11/03/2020 09:26

@fessmess2 it's your panic that will be palpable in 2 weeks times. Good luck.

Legoandloldolls · 11/03/2020 09:26

I have just checked my Tesco order. Each time I look 1/4 of it is out of stock.

It's coming tomorrow and I plan to pop to Sains first thing on Friday then! I cant see online shopping working if people are planning to fully rely on that.

I might just do a small shop each week one week in sains and next week in Aldi. Just to top up fresh things

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 09:28

@fessmess2 Sorry. You think we are blowing this out of proportion? Is it?

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 09:28

[whispers] I use parchment paper in my dehydrater Wink

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 09:29

@fessmess2 , this is a Preppers thread not a panic buyers thread. Haven't you worked out the difference, yet?

fessmess2 · 11/03/2020 09:31

I think so. I have a local case and I am washing my hands. That's it. I cannot control if I meet someone who has it or not. Worrying does nothing to help. I accept its a worrying illness but can't imagine the elderly or vulnerable are ever chilled when a virus does the rounds. Yes Italy is a disaster but we're not them.

fessmess2 · 11/03/2020 09:32

Prepping is panic buying in slow motion. IMO.

Does anyone know how accurate the google map of cases is please? It shows the infected case being three streets down from my Mum but is that accurate? Surely they wouldn't give out the locations of people that accurately? Don't know what to say to her

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 09:35

@fessmess2 , you really don't get it?
I bought an extra few tins and an extra pack of bog roll with my weekly shop 6 months ago. And then a bit extra like that every week until about January? How is that panicking?

fessmess2 · 11/03/2020 09:35

It is my business when this sort of panicking is impacting the rest of us. I can see I am wasting my breath. Keep safe one and all, I am going out for a lovely walk.

pemberlyshades · 11/03/2020 09:36

@fuckthiswind my DD has had a bug that's made her feel sick but not been sick, bad tummy pains and 2x runny poos. Throughout this she's had a cough for about 3-4 weeks.

I've still got my chesty cough and my chest still hurts. No temperature but I'm very tired each day.

I've just phoned work and they've told me not to come in until I'm 100% clear of symptoms! But she's still in preschool!!!!

Madness.

MrsWhites · 11/03/2020 09:37

Hi Ladies, would you mind if I joined in? Becoming increasingly more concerned, I think I’m reasonably well stocked up, without panic buying! Hoping that they issue a schools closure soon, I feel my anxiety ramping up a little every morning at the thought of my son being in school.

For what it’s worth, from what I’ve seen on this thread so far, the planning taking place on her is entirely different to the idiots with trolleys full of toilet roll!!

Legoandloldolls · 11/03/2020 09:43

I'm not panicking. I bought my hand gel, paracetamol and ibuprofen for two adult and four kids at the end of Jan.

Why do I need to panic? 😁 I was prepaired before the first UK case. Not that I'm being smug of course......
