Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

I caved....I moved some things out of my Morrisons delivery for tomorrow and popped to Co-op. It wasn't too busy and was reasonably well stocked. I got everything I need and now have enough treats, milk and fruit. I'm happy. (as happy as you can be) - may have used a lot of gel!!

Nervous of Bojo's announcement. DH wants to pull DS tomorrow not Monday. There's not even a case here for miles around. I'm not sure it's time so hoping Bojo helps with his announcement but I seriously doubt it as I'm still not sure it's the right thing for everyone.

@NatoPMT wow that's good to hear. A step forward for your school for sure. We have two special cases in our school that could do with being home

Right can everyone help with my school closures in Europe data gathering please and I'll pop article links on here later. So far I have Denmark and why they are shutting schools. I won't bother with Italy as that's obvious. But who else has shut early? Spain, Greece, was it Moldova? I'm going to research in a min. Ireland shutting all schools from tomorrow

I fear he may only shut schools in areas with large number of cases.

@hankyspanky and breathe....crikey what a mare

@Sprayitall I really feel for the kids and the long term effects. We grew up with nothing like this. It's going to make them paranoid.

I am so nervous and fearful of what he is going to say today

aliasname · 12/03/2020 11:43

Thinking about if we get a lockdown here, in Italy the only places open are food shops and pharmacies. So it's worth stocking up on anything from other places. People already mentioned paper/ink for home working. Petrol. Pet food also.

These could be got from our supermarket, but we have a fussy dog who will only eat a certain brand Grin.

Anything else? Stuff from the health food shop? Books to read if you're stuck at home?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 11:44

Ireland closes schools and colleges (packing my bags to leave to Ireland .. Ireland here I come)

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 11:46

I've got petrol and fresh veg. Went to the local farm shop as apparently the supermarkets near us are mad. Got frozen mixed fruit and some squirty cream for the kids.

The staff there were talking about CV and are planning on getting stocked up after they finish today.

If this is representative of the general population then this evening may be interesting!

Also got seed compost so will spend my afternoon getting my seeds planted up and relaxing

BlackeyedSusan · 12/03/2020 11:50

Asda run completed.
No loo roll but lots of w/m pasta.

Offer beans/tomatoes mostly sold out but smart price in another aisle.

Short on cheap tinned fruit.

Paracetamol etc gone. Enough vitamins and vapour rub. ( Thanks to pp for prompting that)

No cheap fruit juice.

Ex is now set up with plenty of carbs, tinned veg and beans. ( No baked beans though) soups, add hot water soup,cous cous and noodles, a little bit of tinned proteins ( curry, fish, )

He could do with more dried milk, uht etc. Fruit juice and toiletries.

He has acknowledged he may need store food and suggested part baked bread. (That's it) ( He does not know he has oatcakes, crackers, ryebread, oats, pasta, noodles,naan because he did not look in the sodding bags I gave him but at least that means he has not eaten it.)

Had to come back to exs for a wee. May go an get petrol on the way home.

Did see a couple with two small trollies doing a stocking up shop. There was a bit of huffing and puffing about gaps in tins.

Going to wander round to the corner shop for lemonade.

MrsWhites · 12/03/2020 11:57

I’m thinking more and more than today’s announcement is going to be very disappointing, I think BoJo will just suggest anyone with a cold self isolates and that elderly stay at home. No school closures or restrictions on mass gatherings yet....you know because he is following the science!! 😡

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 11:59

Currently making lemon juice ice cubes. Quite calming. Support all.

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 12:02

@RedLentilYellowLentil Yes it’s causing us unnecessary mental stress everyday to decide if we need to send her to school or not. The school runs are a nightmare with every parent gritting their teeth against the mocking ones along with a nervous smile that hides their concern, worrying about their kids mental health etc.

As a mum, I personally feel we need to listen more to their little voices and act at the best interests of the health of family at these times. If my dd says she is scared going to school at this time I think it’s a very valid concern for her little self to keep her at home (I feel acknowledging her fears and providing reassurance and the needed support for her mental health is more important than me worrying about fines) After all kids mental health are much more important than we all think and if we have to build a stronger society we need to listen to them more. This do-what-I-say approach should stop. I was challenged by others on the local page saying “what are we teaching the youngsters by being scared and creating suspicions about the well meaning authorities -it’s worse than flu but braving it, handwashing and keeping clean will help” for which I have replied “it’s not being scared, it’s being proactive and addressing their concerns with facts - but when all facts point the other way you have no choice as parents other than providing them with support and safety.”

aliasname · 12/03/2020 12:04

So I just talked to DH about stocking up, he said 'I'd just order ink cartridges from Amazon'

I said you won't be able to, the only places that are open in Italy are supermarkets and pharmacies!

He replied 'Oh Amazon will still deliver!'

I think he's wrong, does anyone know the situation in Italy? Surely Amazon deliveries don't count as 'essential services' ?!

MoonlightMistletoe · 12/03/2020 12:09

Doesn't look like we're closing schools?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 12:10

@MrsWhites I think there will be more responsible measures in place like the song will now change to “heads shoulders knees and toes” than happy birthday while washing hands 😂

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 12:10

@MoonlightMistletoe is it?

planningaheadtoday · 12/03/2020 12:11

@MotherShip

This would make me laugh if it wasn't so close to home...

WwwashYourHands · 12/03/2020 12:16

DH (medical) is in despair about this. They haven’t had masks fitted (essential if the masks are to be effective) and plans to stop elective surgery haven’t been announced. He said it’s like being sent into war without a gun.

Orangecake123 · 12/03/2020 12:16

@itsnotjustflu

We got notice on the 10th whilst still in class that all future lectures were cancelled and that the Czech republic will closed all it's schools and universities the next day on the 11th.

Obviously including postponing all exams which included final 6th year medical school ones.

Orangecake123 · 12/03/2020 12:16

*close sorry

Orangecake123 · 12/03/2020 12:18

We only had 40 known cases then. Today we have 91.

MrsWhites · 12/03/2020 12:20

@Sprayitall 😂😂

84TinsOfBeans · 12/03/2020 12:21

I wonder if the big announcement is that Boris has Covid

MotherShip · 12/03/2020 12:21

@KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping
Good tip about teeth. A huge bit of my tooth fell out last night leaving enormous hole and I was able to get the Dentek tooth filling tip to temporarily fill it and it is doing a good job . From Sainsbury's. Got an appointment at the dentist today (cancellation) fortunately.
Also if you have a child with braces it might be a good idea to get in an extra bottle of mouthwash, interdental brushes etc.
Also any cosmetics that you normally use. Sun protection (know we don't need it at the moment!). If we self-isolate are you allowed to sit in the garden (if you don't talk to the neighbours)?

RedLentilYellowLentil · 12/03/2020 12:21

As a mum, I personally feel we need to listen more to their little voices and act at the best interests of the health of family at these times.

I couldn't agree more @Sprayitall. The government has its own concerns, we have ours. I feel strongly that when we look back, we'll be glad we followed our instincts instead of their diktats (to the extent that we are able).

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 12:27

So much of washing and wiping everywhere makes me look like I am manic - not very long until I am classified as having ocd with extremely dry hands that looks like a twig and resembles Olaf.

Duckyneedsaclean · 12/03/2020 12:27

Scotland bans gatherings of 500+

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 12:27

My instincts are screaming to go get my kids out of school/preschool.
I phoned my mum and she had a great idea- go sit in the car near school and the second they announce it I can pull them out. I might even do it at 2pm when the numbers come out.

Does anyone know the time of the announcement?

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 12:28

The Mirror, if that can be trusted, is reporting England school closures imminent from next friday? www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/coronavirus-schools-alert-month-long-21677758
