Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Announce my at 12?

I might do a quick online order for bits like olbas oil if I can find any.

I did my shop this morning - no toilet roll, little on the medicine shelves, few tins and not much in the way of UHT milk, but I did my ‘normal’ shop. I think butchers run and a few ice lollies and olbas oil, but if I can’t get those last bits it’s not the end of the world.

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 10:35

Thanks @rhij86 that is good to know

Orangecake123 · 12/03/2020 10:36
  • The Czech government approved measures that will allow small and medium businesses that have been severely affected by the consequences of COVID-19 to apply for loans at a zero-interest rate.
Orangecake123 · 12/03/2020 10:40

Also the introduction of border checks with Austria and Germany from midnight on Friday. Entering or leaving Czech territory via only 11 border crossings.

How is the announcement at 12 if the meeting isnt until lunch? Confused

hankyspanky · 12/03/2020 10:44

Reporting back from Asda!!

Did an online shop for the first time but as there were no delivery slots available at all, opted for click & collect. Bloody disaster. I arrived before the store opened to fill up with petrol at 24 hour garage, all good but queues starting to grow at 7am.

My collection was 8-9am so popped into store to grab a couple of bits. People were queuing to get in at 7am. All shelves full with the exception of loo rolls, paracetamol, children's calpol, pasta (although they did have own brand Fusilli in 5kg bags and smart price spaghetti). Very low on Eggs and flour.

Fruit and veg all fully stocked. Freezers full.

Paid for my few bits and went to my car to drive to collection point. Disaster, the systems had crashed so I ended up having to wait for 2 hours to collect it but was given a £30 gift card. Substitutions were a Giant Sized Fresh chicken instead of a tin of chicken soup and Napoli tinned Tomatos instead of Asda smart price. Result!!!

Now waiting tentatively for this supposed announcement at midday.

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 10:48

oh gosh I might have started something now Confused I'm sure I read on here that there would be an announcement at 12pm. Now frantically trying to find a reliable source. Everything I can see says there will simply be an announcement after the COBRA meeting, but doesn't give a time.

Sorry guys Sad that will teach me to read other threads and taken them as gospel.

RedLentilYellowLentil · 12/03/2020 10:49

These think they know it all and everyone is over reacting but are actually cowards inside who don’t even have the guts to accept what is happening around.

I agree with this. There are a lot of people in denial. If you have a prepper mentality it's very hard to understand what comfort there is in not facing up to reality like this.

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 10:55

I haven’t sent dd to school partly because she isn’t well (Sorry if it’s tmi but she is having diarrhoea and her last episode was yesterday evening but the nasty one saying it will be classed as unauthorised absence ) and I don’t think she can brave another infection (she is awaiting the diagnosis of being mildly asthmatic) and nor can I be. Dh was furious when he heard how nasty the school staff was to me yesterday. He is with me on this and doesn’t want to risk it at all - dd with 60 other kids in the same hall? So the pressure is off until Monday. We have this parents evening early next week so that’s going to be interesting partly because dh said he wants to go and said me he will tc of that. (I can see he is deeply concerned about the school’s irresponsibility and pretence of making it look that everything looks normal - my dd has been hearing all the news and is already scrubbing her hands raw and woke up very concerned asking me if she can stay home as she don’t want a bad cold - imagine the mental stress the kids are going through now- I’m fully empathising the older kids in schools braving their exams now or going to uni - people talk about mental health but in reality I don’t think anyone cares really - For god’s sake it’s the young minds at stake and adding uncertainty to everything - it’s not good at this time at all.

With prepping Today I’m planning to home educate a little more so she doesn’t miss any lessons and stays ahead .. Dh is still trying for a job and the future seems a little bleak day by day. My hobby business looks horrible too as I’m sure no one wants to buy handmade jewels at this hour. We have our little savings to help us tidy off for couple of months max let’s see Outside Dh braved a trip to go to the gp pharmacy today (no one in gp’s or pharmacy after confirmed case visited and deep clean done after a week) as I had to collect my prescription.

misscockerspaniel · 12/03/2020 10:59

Up until now, this thread and making lists and planning were keeping me calm. But I couldn't sleep last night and now I am in panic mode. Going out now to dog walk, it is a lovely day here, hopefully that will calm me down.

Disposable FFP3 Masks for Sale

I bought 3 x packs of 5 FFP3 disposable masks from Scion Supplies a few weeks ago.

£28.95 is what I paid for each box of 5.

Since then I bought a reusable mask with extra filters so I no longer need the disposable ones if anyone wants to buy at the price I paid for them?

I can post a link to a listing on eBay so you have Ebay buyers rights and don't worry about me being a scammer

Filitheyofun · 12/03/2020 11:08

Thanks I didn't think that was correct

Filitheyofun · 12/03/2020 11:12

Reply for @luciey Wink

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 11:15

@RedLentilYellowLentil I know I sounded a bit harsh on that one but being in denial and jump in “just keep washing hands” band is not going to help. This is the time for action and if we let this window slip out (knowing it’s bad in Italy), we as a country might regret it lots more when we are pushed into a situation where we will have no other choice than to be reactive.

MotherShip · 12/03/2020 11:20

Hello everyone.
I missed so much yesterday I have a lot to catch up (I usually just lurk). My DH has a funny take on the government's 4 phase plan:

Contain:
Contain all the information about the virus.

Delay:
Delay doing anything.

Research:
Research our excuses.

Mitigate:
Mitigate the effects on us.

Does anyone think the "big announcement " is that they are going to close parliament?

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 12/03/2020 11:21

I've just seen the video of BoJo talking with Dr Jennie Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Officer about covid-19 and the way they're responding to it.

She spoke about her team of "expert modellers" and how they're following the science Hmm, but what I don't understand is why they can't share this data?

Other countries have produced plenty of papers, made them open access, and their data seems to contradict the British approach. Even the WHO have indirectly criticized their response. Why be so bloody cloak and dagger about it?

If they're that confident in the science, and their models, they should be more bloody transparent. Think I may have to write to my MP for all the use that is

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 11:28

Sorry, what did the health secretary meeting exactly say about closure of schools yesterday? Did he say they won’t close? Can anyone brief it please because I’m seeing news that says he didn’t agree closing them yesterday because of the economic impact and will affect healthcare (as they can’t have workers on the frontline then if they had to care for their kids) Will this change today when pm announces delay phase?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 11:29

@MotherShip That’s so true .. sad but true (appreciating the humour though)

Harib0 · 12/03/2020 11:31

Ireland are closing schools from tomorrow

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 11:32

Just want to say for if/when the school shut, do not try and recreate school at home. read about deschooling and why it is necessay!

Justmum89 · 12/03/2020 11:32

Ireland are locking down from tomorrow

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 11:32

@sprayitall if you're asking about his announcement to commons last night at 7pm, his basic stance was that:

They could not justify the closure of schools at this stage. He was directly asked by an MP whether children have been confirmed as super spreaders and therefore would it not make sense to close schools to slow the spread.

He responded saying 'children can't catch it' (BLATANTLY not true - children CAN get it, their symptoms are just far more mild from what has been seen), so it didn't make sense to close the school. He did not address the question regarding whether they had been found to spread it.

middleager · 12/03/2020 11:39

This made me chuckle.

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 12/03/2020 11:39

Another useful medical item to get if you are still getting last minute bits would be something to help with toothache.

I don't know what access to dentists would be like in a lock down but I do know what toothache feels like. Something like clove oil or Orajel or Bonjela for children might be handy to have at home.

I felt very panicky last night and don't feel ready for this at all. Trying to tidy and organise the house and still have a last shop to do, although I do have everything I need. I think like another poster said, I just feel like there is always something else to add to the list or that I should get a couple more of something just in case I don't have enough.

I really think we need to support our medical teams, retail staff, carers and anyone else who is going to keep things going if we lock down. From me, Thank you.

RedLentilYellowLentil · 12/03/2020 11:40

@Sprayitall I didn't think you were being unduly harsh at all. I completely agree with you. I think the UK government's position and actions have been inadequate to the point of irresponsibility and I feel completely at my wit's end with both them and all of the 'only flu' brigade. I am sorry you're having such difficulty with your dd's school. Flowers
