Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Have just popped to B and M to get snacks for the stash - anyone thinking of going this looks to be their refilling time. Petrol is 3/4 full. DH works in London but can work from home if needed, so can I. (only three days a week) We both have our own laptops. GSCE student has a laptop and the other two can share the PC, and the apps the younger one uses for primary are on phones anyway. So I feel ready. Now waiting for the plumber from British gas, because we have no hot water! DH and I spoke last night about the hospitals closing out patients appointments after someone posted it, about the schools closing and what we would do. I home edded for a few years so we have loads of resources including chemistry kits especially for the years that youngest dc is in (oldest was home ed a few years ago, so the years luckily match now!)

Just popped to waitrose. All calm on the western front. Very little pasta or rice, very few tinned tomatoes, no hand soap or gels, no anti bac spray but the rest of the shelves full. Bumped into several people I know well, no kissing or touching by unspoken mutual consent. Just waiting now to see what the rest of today brings.

InconvenientPeg · 12/03/2020 09:36

Delurking (I think I posted one of these threads about sprouting jars!)

Our company has announced worldwide homeworking from today onwards. DH and I both work for them, from home, so no change for us tho I suspect the broadband is going to start slowing down over the next few weeks!

I'm planning to walk to the local shops to buy veg and maybe some honey for sore throats. Have been prepped for months with everything else, since the run up to the first brexit date. Tho TBF I've always been a bit of a low level prepper.

Have moved onto planting seeds now and trying to stay calm, feels like we're just waiting for it to hit - whilst having to pretend to some people that everything is going to carry on as normal. The whole double life thing is really stressful. Am just gently saying it probably is going to be disruptive and leaving it at that.

Must order some ink! Have a y6 and a y11, so school work of some description will have to be done. I'm not bothered about sats, more keeping a good routine going into high school. But obviously am worried about the potential effect on gcse's.

Had my first sleepless night last night, so going to try to get outside and do a bit of gardening after work today - hopeful stuff!

Hope everyone is doing ok 💐

Just braved tesco - managed to get the toilet rolls I went in for (I’m late to the group and that was the only thing I haven’t really managed to stock up on). There was about 5 packs left on the shelf.

I did notice they had no pasta, very little bread, low on chicken but everything else looked ok.

In terms of medicines, we have plenty of paracetamol, a couple of packs of cold and flu tablets, 3 bottles of calpol and some vicks vapour rub!

Posharmchairs · 12/03/2020 09:41

I’m going to get some decongestant as it’s something we all struggle with generally.

Food wise I feel we are at capacity.

Now it’s medicine and petrol.

Getting my hamper to my elderly relative today and then hoping for the best.

I have old ill family across affected areas of Europe. I’m not expecting us all to come out of this unscathed.

Posharmchairs · 12/03/2020 09:42

Also can someone remind me what to look for if wickes has any masks left? Dh will scoff but I don’t care.

Haven’t read the last couple of pages, sorry

Had a really intense morning. This is what happened:

Went into school yesterday to explain my position. Attendance officer started flippant but I scared the crap out of her and ended up with her accepting my position

This morning I dropped my daughter off and told her form teacher mine wouldn’t be going on the school trip, she agreed with me and said she was trying to get it Cancelled

then the Dep Head came out to line up and asked me for a meeting

She said she’d been told about the conversation I had yesterday and they want to close the school but need to put forward an argument to the LA, could I help put this together

We discussed the trajectory, current inactivity, restrictions abroad, health service capacity, WHOs criticism etc

She says they have some autonomy due to special circumstances in the school which gives them leverage

They are putting the argument forwards today

Then, I saw a group of parents outside school and went to say hello

They were discussing civil unrest. It’s being planned - discussions are rife throughout younger people / youth and even older. That’s all I’m saying on here.

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 09:45

@natopmt oh bloody hell! interesting indeed!

MrsWhites · 12/03/2020 09:49

@Sprayitall exactly the same in my sons playground, so many people complaining about ‘the inconvenience’ of having their kids off school ‘all because of a bit of a cold’. These people don’t seem to realise that people are actually dying of this thing!

Mind you, my sons only concern is whether the premier league will carry on!!

Luciey · 12/03/2020 10:04

@Filitheyofun not true re: Australia. Residents returning from China, South Korea, Iran and Italy are required to self isolate (in their homes) for 14 days.

.....
Foreign nationals who have been in any of the four nations will not be allowed into Australia for 14 days from the time they left those countries.

Australian citizens and permanent residents travelling from those countries will still be able to enter Australia but must self-isolate for a fortnight after returning home.

poshme · 12/03/2020 10:09

Just been to boots. No hand gel on shelves/ but they have it behind the counter if you ask. 1 per customer at the pharmacy.

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 10:12

If you live in big cities can I suggest making sure you're ready for the 2pm numbers release- I.e at home. I think that due to the testing going up and Bojo announcing delay phase today could/will see more panic buying

Readyme · 12/03/2020 10:15

@AlohaMolly I have vitamins, Calpol, ibuprofen, Vicks and the infant version of vicks. Suitable hand cream for the extra hand washing.

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 10:16

@pemberlyshades I'll be driving between jobs at 2pm so will have the radio on and listening with interest, hoping it's not too delayed and I can check the figures before starting lectures at 3!

pemberlyshades · 12/03/2020 10:18

@rhij86 fair enough- I just think today will be a tipping point for joe public. Time to hunker down if you can!

Mrsemcgregor · 12/03/2020 10:20

Is there a planned press conference today?

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 10:21

@pemberlyshades yes definitely agree. Trying to think if there's anything last minute now I need to get, could pop to the supermarket at lunch. Poss tinned veg? In case we can't get regular access to fresh? (both freezers full to burst). Maybe some meat from the butchers. I can probably freeze individual chicken breasts slotted into gaps here and there but not much else. Just second guessing myself now.

originalcatlady · 12/03/2020 10:23

I've just done an Iceland order for the first time ever to stock up the freezer. Loads of delivery slots available, no issues with pasta, sauces, cleaning products etc. Not the obvious choice for cupboard essentials I guess. Just no loo roll in stock.

NatoPMT · 12/03/2020 10:23

Good shout @pemberlyshades

rhij86 · 12/03/2020 10:25

@Mrsemcgregor apparently BJ giving an announcement at 12pm

Mrsemcgregor · 12/03/2020 10:31

@rhij86 Thank you, I couldn’t find that anywhere!
