Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

DH is adamant that the only thing they will announce is no large event gatherings and schools will remain open. He's often right but none of us know for sure

Posharmchairs · 12/03/2020 07:40

@AlohaMolly I would go this morning if you can. Depending on what news comes in today, more panic buying could ensue.

I also think you’ve the best chance of getting certain “limited products” going first thing.

I feel completely drained. Dh thinks thousands have it in the U.K. and we are all likely to feel the effects one way or another.

Prep wise I need to start being careful not to go over budget. I’m seeing several friends today (not at home) I think they all expect it to blow over and of course won’t be prepared.

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/03/2020 07:44

I've cancelled my meetings and will work from home today. No idea when I'll be able to rearrange. I feel like I have a cold (which I probably do!) but am raising my sensitivity threshold - don't think this is the time to 'push through'

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 07:44

That’s what I was thinking re panic buying.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am for these threads - I feel like I’ve been preparing since beginning of February, all thanks to you lot Flowers

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 07:45

I've pulled the DC out for today and tomorrow. Both are coughing and run down. I'm going to say they're ill since I'm already at war with school who are now getting very stroppy about all my questioning.. We will reassess on Sunday but in all likelihood they're off now for an extended Easter holiday.

Im lucky in that they're at an independent school and so we don't get fined. Plus I work from home and DS1 who is in Year 10 will actually use the time productively (ish) (not so sure about DS2). I am self employed though so it will be more difficult to get work done.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/03/2020 07:46

Can't fit anything else in the fridge.

Need to strip the roast chicken to make room for milk.

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 12/03/2020 07:58

So reading. around the news, it looks like Labour and the toriess are having a meeting re the laws to implement the social distancing/school closing stuff and passing them next week. THat fits in with the ten days for the firies mentioned on the other thread and the tweet of the journalist.

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 07:59

Having a big wobble - those of you with small children, what medicines have you got? I’ve got a good supply of his usual vitamin gummies and a good supply of calpol. For grown ups we’ve got lots of paracetamol but nothing else really as we don’t usually take much medicine.

VenetoResident · 12/03/2020 08:01

An advance warning that when they do announce something big, like school closures and lockdowns, that you are likely to go through a period of shock as the reality hits home.

Italy has introduced the restrictions bit by bit and even so when they announced the lockdown it hit me with a tonne of bricks. That's even though I'd been reading all day about the likelihood that they'd extend the Lombardy zone. I didn't expect it to include us.

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 08:01

@AlohaMolly I would suggest you go in the morning instead. I think the working will go on as normally and you might be encouraged to work from home if possible. This is only if the government is being proactive. It’s more likely the announcement after the meeting today doesn’t have stringent measures and just plain handwashing encouraged now and drink more teas may be 😅

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/03/2020 08:03

We have an empty fridge but a full garage of long life stuff. Think DH May need to go to get supplies. Both me and DD seem unwell, he's still ok ...

Funkycats · 12/03/2020 08:06

Aloha, not for the kids but have you considered getting in some beechams/lemsip, night nurse or similar?
We also have stock of thrush treatment, gaviscon, eye drops, anti histamines, a saline nasal spray DH uses. I say stock but I mean one of each. Dry and chesty cough medicine too.

Nofoolfornoone · 12/03/2020 08:10

Hello all, I’ve been following for a while but first post. I’ve been laid back about it all. Figured, it’s coming for us all anyway whether we panic or not. But I have asthma and the last couple of days it’s been noticeably worse so it’s much harder to stay laid back.
I’ve done no particular prep however I have always had 4 months toilet roll delivered at once so I’ve got about 40 rolls left and I live alone.
I also just naturally have a freezer full of veg and meat and plenty of tinned fish and eggs. Prob enough for 2 weeks.
I am having a food delivery this weekend and have turned on my spare (small) freezer in preparation for it. I’ve just ordered my usual weekly shop to be honest but my current freezer is full.
I have a car but I rarely drive as I live in London and I’ve got half a tank of petrol.
I am going to stop using the bus to get to work and start walking.
I’ve got pre existing health conditions - asthma and hypothyroidism. I tried to order repeat prescriptions for all my medications but was told I have to make a gp appointment but I’m going to call up today and ask if they can make an exception as I don’t want to go into surgery at the moment.
I am stocked up on paracetamol.
Anything I am missing? I am employed, have the ability to work from home if needed but also get good sick pay luckily.
I’ve been asked to babysit this weekend for my brothers children who are 2 and 7. I am very tempted to cancel but is that over the top of me?
Thank you all!

Funkycats · 12/03/2020 08:11

So I told a friend that DD has been told to quarantine by authorities, and is waiting for testing due to mixing with known cases in work.
She made no comment but ffs the world's gone mad, followed by a ridiculous rant and fb link. I said let's wait and see (look at Italy) She went on about it being the seat of Catholicism and how spiritual rumours abounding.
I replied with my own ffs (all on text)
I'm not panicking. I'm relying on her youth and good health, and a better health system where she is. But obviously I'm concerned. What a bitch!!

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2020 08:30

Oh I remembered I impulse bought soothers!

DP finally seemed to listen to me last night, which makes it seem doubly real.

wherearemychickens · 12/03/2020 08:35

In terms of medicines, I've also got Strepsils, throat spray, Vit d spray, vit c & zinc tablets, a little bit of sudafed, olbas oil and Vicks vapour rub.

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 08:37

@funkycats unfortunately there are many of those bitches now - mocking and making fun of people who are concerned for their loved ones and genuinely scared to send their kid to school. These think they know it all and everyone is over reacting but are actually cowards inside who don’t even have the guts to accept what is happening around. They will know it when shtf . xx

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 08:38

@wherearemychickens nice list - I would add also add some dry Cough syrups to that list

MakeLemonade · 12/03/2020 08:42

Does anyone know if you can visit family in a lockdown situation? I am mid renovation and currently have no kitchen so batch cooking at someone else’s house may well be necessary.

wherearemychickens · 12/03/2020 08:56

Oh yes, I do actually have that too, sorry I forgot to include that!

preponderings · 12/03/2020 09:05

I've told DH he needs to think about printers! He was a bit shocked last night when I showed him the article about Italian doctors having to shower who to treat. We have one computer and 2 DC and if he had to work from home he would have to use our computer...

The hospital won't cancel DS's appointment tomorrow, so we will go but it will be the last one for the foreseeable future. There are 34 cases in our county.

Bus drivers are cordoned off, you're not allowed: in the front door, to sit in the front row nor buy a ticket from the driver.

Schools still open.

I've two orders left to do, summer clothes for Dc, contact lenses and I'll go into the chemist tomorrow for the last time. Can kids (8yrs) have strepsils?

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/03/2020 09:06

@makelemonade
I'm not sure how that could be policed really, are they nearby?
We are mid renovation too. Trying to finish off master bedroom. Buying power tools atm.

Vaki · 12/03/2020 09:07

Just a reminder, the best time to stock up if you still need to will be early morning, 6am time, this is when most of the nights delivery will have been worked in the major supermarkets, around the time the online pickers start picking orders etc, so you've a higher chance of receiving the goods you want then.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/03/2020 09:14

Right off to do battle with Asda.

middleager · 12/03/2020 09:19

Morning Preppers.

Can anyone recommend a good online First Aid training course?
I realise that I'm woefully ill prepared.

Also, should I buy a nebulise from the chemist? My son is asthmatic. I've seen them on display but have no idea if they are any good/necessary?
