Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

It is really difficult. DD has trips and plays and concerts to go to at school and would be really disappointed, but I also want to.keep us safe and stay in for a month. Emotional roller coaster. Just trying to take it as it comes.

I wish ds would get a minor cold so I could keep him home. He is so resistent to hand washing. Fucking sick of the swearing and refusal to comply. Pocket money may have to be linked to it. Just makes me so cross.

I’m feeling oddly at peace now @wheresmymojo has told us that about her uncle. Thanks to you wonderful lot I’ve had my ear to the ground since end of Jan and I’m as prepped as I can possibly be now. It feels like it’s been an age of waiting and ridicule (from others) and now it’s (almost) here. Do you think it’ll be London based lockdown or U.K. wide? How do we think it will play out?

I’m fucking terrified and it all feels so surreal but it’s almost a relief.

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 22:49

whoops sorry you're all ahead of me.....

Oooo behind the bath for treats....good idea

Snugglepumpkin · 11/03/2020 22:51

@Readyme there are loads but honestly if you were happy with that company & they sell what you want to buy, I'd stick with them.

I haven't really had to buy seeds for a long time because I normally get my own from the garden.
If there are allotments near you it's worth asking if they do seed swaps.
Local people will know which varieties will grow best where you are so it's best to ask them.

@Sprayitall
There is not a single piece of really expensive kit you need to garden successfully.
There is a book on Amazon called "The $64 Tomato: How One Man Nearly Lost His Sanity, Spent a Fortune, and Endured an Existential Crisis in the Quest for the Perfect Garden"
That's the price he calculated he spent for each individual tomato.

NEVER buy expensive kit unless you are either so loaded you won't notice blowing a few thousand on stuff you might not use more than once, or you have been growing things for a few years & know you will get a lot of use out of them.

Watch the YouTube guy instead.
He doesn't even pay for his beloved buckets - they are old ones from flower shops :-)

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 22:54

Wish I'd booked my final shop with treats and fresh food in sooner than Friday evening now. I fear a panic if Bojo announces closures.

JaneBond0007 · 11/03/2020 22:55

@AlohaMolly we are ok wales and a friend who is senior in our nhs trust has told us they have been told schools likely to close within a fortnight in our area so I assume it’s going to be a countrywide thing.

wherearemychickens · 11/03/2020 22:55

I placed an order with Ocado this evening but the earliest delivery was Tuesday - if they've taken orders, do they effectively keep those items for you, or am I going to have half an order arrive on Tuesday by the time everyone with earlier delivery slots booked has panicked?

Vaki · 11/03/2020 22:56

I'm really panicking now and i hope you can calm my nerves.

Son works in food retail and is exposed to hundreds of people everyday, all coughing and spluttering away and even had one persons sneeze next to them and he felt the droplets hit his face.

I'm worried that he will be more at risk of getting it and I'm off into surgery within 2 weeks for kidney cancer, so can't afford to become ill right now.

Anyone able to help calm my nerves?

Vaki · 11/03/2020 22:58

Another thing that's bugging me and no offence, everyone saying shut the offices etc but still expecting lower paid retail workers to be at work to serve them, deliver there shopping etc. If i was a tesco deluver driver I'd be telling anyone who is confirmed case, the trays are on your steps and I'm not touching them

wherearemychickens · 11/03/2020 22:58

I can't, I'm afraid Vaki, but my question next to yours looks very trivial :(

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 22:59

Don't store chocolate under the bath it will melt.

doneaflit · 11/03/2020 22:59

People looking at temp home schooling - have you looked at Twinkl? Some lovely resources there and mapped to the curriculum (if you want to keep going with that).

Sats year groups - you can download previous years papers for some practice. I can guarantee year 2 and year 6 teachers are pulling their hair out at the idea of school closures at this point because of all the prep that's gone into getting their class ready for SATs, which could all be undone. So SATs papers if you want to keep them going. Or just pick a couple of q's per day to generate some discussion.

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 23:01

I mean, definitely don't place all of your trust in my Uncle though Grin

That being said many rumours on Reddit that large company CEO's have been given heads up of some form of lockdown starting on the 23rd which is about the same kind of timeline being mentioned in the fire service...

On Reddit it talks of London lockdown but my Uncle is in the Midlands.

Vaki · 11/03/2020 23:01

Don't be sorry, we all have our sttuggles and worries about it, no ones is less important then the others, just different.

I'm just panicking, obviously I'm higher risk, then my operation could be cancelled etc, and while my son maintains good hygiene, he washes hand before work, when he arrives, after the toilet, before food and before he comes home, I'm just scared others around him don't do the same, he catches it and it will then put me in a serious situation.

It sounds wierd saying i fear my son could harm me, but he really could

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 23:02

If I was a confirmed case I would not expect the delivery driver to do anything other than drop them by the door. And would not open the door til they had retreated to a safe distance.

NatoPMT · 11/03/2020 23:05

@itsnotjustflu - I don’t trust the last second fresh food shop to a delivery. I’m ready to go with that in a flash. My list is in my purse and until I get a signal I’m holding back. Will have to listen to my spider senses on what the signal is though. Fresh fruit and veg seem to be the last category to suffer - still all well stocked up which is well on your side

Molly, yeah this is beyond surreal. I can’t actually believe it’s happening. I almost don’t believe it still. I’m all over the place with how I feel - there’s a daily swing-o-meter between cortisol overload and casual acceptance

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 23:05

@wherearemychickens I don't know about ocado but Morrisons etc don't. You just get what they have in on the day. I'm hoping people won't panic buy what I'm buying anyway.

Thanks @doneaflit I bought some cheap SAT prep books from Amazon and they're big so will keep us going. Will check out your 2 recommendations now thank you

My asthma is busy reminding me it's there tonight. I think I need to de-stress

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 23:06

Anyone who is thinking of home schooling for a bit there is a thread in this Preppers topic with some links, feel free to add any more if you come across useful resources or ideas.

wherearemychickens · 11/03/2020 23:06

It sounds like he's aware and doing what he can at least. Better than a son who is not taking it seriously. Face touching is the other one for him to practice?

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 23:07

@NatoPMT I have a list in my purse as well but I've vowed no more shops after this one as we are locking down Monday

wherearemychickens · 11/03/2020 23:09

It's not a big problem - this was more of a last minute 'top up' for us but I ordered a load for a food bank as well, so I will be unhappy if those don't turn up. Fresh food we have a local box scheme and Riverford delivering, so I'm hoping between the two something will continue to get through.

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 23:10

Just one little 'lighten the mood' post (I realise this is a genuinely concerning time and not trying to play anyone's concerns down).

I found this sarcastic post on Reddit amusing...

"We are working closely with a Public Health England and are following their advice to issue this cut and paste statement. An employee tested positive for Covid-19 and we have wiped his chair down with a damp cloth. There is no risk to any of his colleagues"

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 23:10
