Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Hi - sorry I wasn't around to start a new thread so thanks for the new thread OP!

My uncle works for the fire service and they were all called into a big meeting today and told to prepare for a UK lockdown in (or from?) 10 days time.

I'm not clear as to whether this is a 'it will happen in 10 days' or if it was 'be prepared that this could happen from 10 days time' as I got the info via my DM as uncle called her straight after the meeting.

Obvs it's meant to be kept quiet (LOL as though that will happen with something like this).

Also said if lockdown does on more than 21 days then to expect petrol shortages (not clear how or why this would happen?).

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 19:27

Sprayitall thank you, thank you for taking time to reassure Flowers. We (as in family) have been taking tumeric and ginger by the teaspoon in a small amount of water twice a day for 3/4 weeks now. So yes to tumeric 👍. But i think that i may just 'borrow' a tot of dh's whisky in a mo. I dont normally drink anything than a small glass of red wine. But his whisky is calling...... Confused

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 19:28

Thermometer. Soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Works for skin. Will work for other stuff. I would wash it with a soapy washing up sponge. ( Not the washing up sponge, a different colour one)

Soap and water is very effective on skin, better than hand gels.

Expert on Radio four advised cleaning surfaces with ordinary dish wash liquid or soap and water.

If soap works on skin it will work on lots of other surfaces. It is also better for paintwork than antibac. Antibac works as a very slow paint stripper bubbling the paint.

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 19:29

@VenetoResident

A friend is saying that there were no new cases reported in Lombardy today, is that correct?

Presumably due to the lockdown working?

Can you share any more info about the practicalities of the lockdown in Italy...?

Are you allowed to leave your home? For what?

Can people who are not diagnosed and with no symptoms go to the park (just as an example)?

TipseyTorvey · 11/03/2020 19:30

Govt has watched Trump rip up the rule book, stop engaging with journalists, call it all fake news and engage via sm. No negative consequences at all. Whilst BJ is no way as intellectually challenged, he's seen that he doesn't need the media any longer so why bother. If I was his PR I'd advise the same.

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 19:32

TipseyTorvey hugs to you, at least we (collective thread we) are using our normal feelings of oh shit constructively and just getting more prepped?

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 19:32

Re business insurance you’re looking for a clause about business interruption for notifiable/infectious diseases. Is it an existing policy? As I don’t think new policies will cover you.

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 19:33

Matt Hancock just said that closing schools wouldn't necessarily be a good thing as children can't catch it

Neome · 11/03/2020 19:33

Just sending best wishes to all really.

It was a bit of a wrench to tear myself away from the screen and go to the allotment with DS today but did us both so much good.

Would it make sense to have a separate thread for people who are either self isolating or doing precautionary low contact (eg due to pre existing conditions as advised by WHO)? Somewhere to post about what we are doing at home or whatever social chat we might need in the absence of usual face to face chat with other adults. Is it called homesteading? 🏡

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 19:34

This is interesting. Study suggests China could have cut cases by 66% if it had locked down a week earlier.

Paging BoJo, read the research.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 19:38

@make Yes we have an existing policy as we should have one by law for other purposes but we now need to look for the words. I don’t think it will be there anyway or any insurer will cover it . Insurance are never useful and always they save their ar** and don’t care about us anyway lol .

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 19:39

@sideorderofchips what a load of bollocks.. they can be carriers and what will they do if both parents fall ill.. why is this being never challenged

FuckThisWind · 11/03/2020 19:41

Also sending best wishes, heartfelt hugs and Flowers to all. Feel we could possibly do with a little Gin too!

DD has gone rapidly downhill. We ended up to and from GP today. She has a raging UTI and tonsillitis. Fuck Matt Hancock. He won't dictate to me regarding school closures and kids not getting it. I mentioned earlier that my wonderful GP said it simply wasn't worth me sending DD back to school unless I was happy to. Because of the added complication of the current situation.

Prepper Fail: I'm all out of mango chutney. Just managed to make myself a curry, and am missing my favourite accompaniment. Luckily I have a cheats recipe made with tinned peaches!

JaneBond0007 · 11/03/2020 19:42

I wonder if they want all the kids to get it (as we think that kids don’t really suffer from symptoms ) so that if there’s a chance they get lifelong immunity they will grow up into a generation that have herd immunity??

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 19:45

@Neome

Would it make sense to have a separate thread for people who are either self isolating or doing precautionary low contact (eg due to pre existing conditions as advised by WHO)?

I think this would be a great idea 💡

I'm done prepping so this would be more the thread for me now.

I'm not high risk particularly but aren't working at the moment so keeping my head down.

tryingtoprep · 11/03/2020 19:48

I thought children do catch it? Just that it seems to be milder in children. If Hancock can't get that right what else is he getting wrong/lying about?

I've got forehead thermometers. Are they good enough? I'm inclined to ear infections and DP hates mouth thermometers.

Started using the propolis mouth spray. Never used mouth spray before. It feels funny!

Thanks for the tea tip @Sprayitall

AmelieTaylor · 11/03/2020 19:48

Matt Hancock - an almost perfect name.

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 19:49

@Neome I'd love a homesteading thread Smile

Thanks to whoever mentioned Milton tablets, I picked some up a while back in Wilko and forgot I had them. Also good to know soap and water still effective at cleaning thermometer even in absence of alcohol.

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 19:49

Not sure if anyone has seen what I posted so bolding as it could be a big deal

My uncle works for the fire service and they were all called into a big meeting today and told to prepare for a UK lockdown in (or from?) 10 days time.

Would make sense as it would be just going into Easter hols early therefore reducing economic impact as schools would've been closed then anyway...

AmelieTaylor · 11/03/2020 19:51

I don’t want us all to split up, I like us all being here. Maybe we could put together another thread with some copy & pastes for new preppers who just want condensed information ?! They can still chat here of course.

TiddleTaddleTat · 11/03/2020 19:51

I just read that @wheresmymojo
10 days must be what this modelling they keep talking about is saying
I'm not seeing much change in people's attitudes in my local area. Has reported its first case today. Safe to say it's probably everywhere now.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 19:53

Ours is not closing til Maunday Thursday.

Mum2jenny · 11/03/2020 19:53

Matt Hancock seems a waste of space. Unless I’ve missed it, he has said nothing useful.

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 19:54

I read it wheresnymojo

I'm due to sail over on the 8th of April and not sure whether I will make it at this rate

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 19:54

@Mum2jenny

Honestly he looks so uncomfortable and unsure of himself
