Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

Denmark has now closed all schools, nurseries and universities. Only essential public workers required to work, bars and nightclubs closing.

They have 340 cases.

tryingtoprep · 11/03/2020 19:56

Interesting @wheresmymojo Welcome news in a way but waiting that long could be shutting the doors after the horse has bolted. We had a chance to avoid the awful situation Italy's in instead of waiting until things are as bad here.

I'd also love to join a higher risk group self isolating thread. Particularly I'd like to share tips or frustrations with anyone else in my position. Other members of the household still going about as normal, whether kids at school or DP/H's at work.

wheresmymojo · 11/03/2020 19:58

I also think leaving it another ten days is too late...

But better than absolutely fuck all which is what I'd started to fear.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 19:58

So what Have they decided in today’s announcement .. does the schools close or keeping it open and risk?

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 19:58

Right. People at church were mostly taking it seriously. Same guidance as Catholic church in CoE.

I may have been in the same room as someone who was supposed to be at home self isolating. Thankfully it was a very large room.

lachy · 11/03/2020 20:01

Funnily enough I was talking to a couple of sensible colleagues today about closures etc. I mentioned that come the end of march I expected that we'd be WFH full time and that schools would likely have a long Easter break.

For those of you who are thinking of growing veg, potatoes can be grown in a dustbin (carrots too) and if you you have a conservatory, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers do really well. Cut and come again salad leaves in a pot by the back door are also really easy.

**DISCLAIMER - I'm no gardener... I managed to kill mint once, but I can grow potatoes and lettuce!

ooopsupsideyourhead · 11/03/2020 20:07

There’s a school in Cumbria where a teacher was confirmed as having CV19 Mon eve. The teacher has been in work since half term. The school is open. No colleagues/pupils have been told to self isolate. Contradictory advice was given by PHE/111 (stay open, carry on/self isolate all known contacts).

And, I’ve just been informed by a nurse friend that influenza is 4x more deadly. FFS. No. It’s. Not.

I need a drink. And a mask.

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 20:09

Schools are staying open

TipseyTorvey · 11/03/2020 20:09

Please can we keep this gang going and not split up? I am looking forward to it bringing comfort in the coming days or weeks. I realise it needs to move on from prepping as hopefully we're all done but its a very positive place compared to some other threads.

SecretInHiding · 11/03/2020 20:10

FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL the royal FUCK OFF DAILY free hospital FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL is going FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL to cancel FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL outpatients FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL from next FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL week

tryingtoprep · 11/03/2020 20:15

Thinking about it, yes, it would be a shame if we split up. I think of this thread as the calm place. It's very comforting having somewhere to be with similarly minded (sensible) people. I try to check in on other threads but it's hard keeping up with all of them.

Mum2jenny · 11/03/2020 20:16

I am now getting seriously scared. The government seems to be ignoring all advice from WHO and ignoring the stats from Italy. We seem likely to follow the trends there and BoJo doesn’t give a shit!

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 20:17

@TipseyTorvey I agree.

Also what is with school closures here? Why aren’t they not closing it? Or atleast they should have the parental lenience

@itsnotjustflu thanks for the nest app recommendation, I will try the lite version first.

FuckThisWind · 11/03/2020 20:21

Weather is awful here. Non stop wind and rain. Weather warning for next 2 days.

So grateful for all your posts / company / understanding in a sea of madness. Thanks @Neome for the homesteading thread. I'd like to think we can all stay here en masse for now. But when it comes to it, the homestead thread will hopefully provide additional support. We are sort of already finding ourselves in a prepper situation as DD so poorly. So as our thread title has suggested for so long, we were right to Prep for a Pandemic.

Was not too impressed by the poster early in the thread who came on to abuse us. And eventually concluded with "prepping is just slow panic buying" and sad that MN had to veto any sort of code word. Sort of understand, but I'm sure we used to say 'walk on by' on the Brexit preppers threads. It certainly was never picked up on before. Just goes to show that this current situation is even more emotive than any previous political issue.

At risk of being labelled a panic buyer, I would again urge anyone with babies to get an extra tin of formula in (I breastfed my DD for so long, I don't know how much an average baby would go through) ditto nappies. Freezer bags may be the next thing to get hold of. Other than that, I'm going to get some wine tomorrow. And a few more tinned peaches if I can.

Ignoring all of the social distancing questions , call 111, same old shit that isn't going to do anything! Not going to see a peak yet it will be in a few months , this is a marathon not a sprint !!! Wow I am loosing hope.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 20:23

This was shared in twitter by a person.. how shocking is this.. the school still wants to remain open

Wine is an essential imo, however I think I’ve only got about 4 bottles here. Must add it to the next shopping list!

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 20:24

@Alwayscheerful I tried the lite version but it’s not working as it should

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 20:24

I don’t drink. What do you think will fix this amount of pressure 😂 any ideas
