Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

@Sprayitall the surgery local to where I work was closed yesterday too because of a suspected case. My colleague was there at the time and came to work as normal.

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 18:53

RhubarbTea we use those little alcohol swabs for injection sites, they are fab for cleaning thermometers. Not something that panic buyers would think of, so you should be able to get them from your pharmacy.

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 18:53

@KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping yes I thought that too but they are also like gold dust and hard to get.
I'll try TCP, very hot water and soap and hope for the best. I know realistically if one of us gets it the other will...

Thinking of you all on this thread as things ramp up, I know it is scary and I am scared too. Sad You have all been so kind and measured and this thread has been an oasis of balanced, calm information for the past few weeks. I'm very grateful for it.

Coughsyrupsucks x post Grin

HeronLanyon · 11/03/2020 18:56

I have self isolated today as contact at one removed with one of today’s new cases.
I had stocked up i er the last few weeks so am ok for food toiletries etc etc. Best purchase I now discover was a thermometer. Only way I can tell if a headache is actually a fever etc.
Hear two further very recent deaths here in U.K. just announced. Support to all affected. Awaiting 7pm health announcement. God help us when Matt Hancock is health minister. He is an absolute liability !
Support all.

TipseyTorvey · 11/03/2020 18:56

Kundalini I had a moment like that this morning. I keep buying more stuff out of mild anxiety thinking 'what if everything shuts down and I didn't buy x thing when I could'. I'm so used to amazon prime, online sainsburys and shops open on demand that I realise I'm not that prepped in terms of day to day stuff like milk, eggs, bread. I have long term alternatives but want to get as much in as possible before lock down.

Coughsyrupsucks · 11/03/2020 18:56

@KundaliniRising Great minds Grin

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:57

@torthecatlady This was a confirmed case and they have walked into the gp’s not once but twice on two different days. Amazed at the levels of complacency here and to the staff who called me irresponsible and Pooh poohed my concerns - I would really like what she would say after who declares it a pandemic

Duckyneedsaclean · 11/03/2020 18:59

DH's large City of London insurance firm are closing the office from tomorrow, with no end date.

Catholic Church in England & Wales has banned the chalice, passing collection plate, sign of peace, advises those at risk to stay home, advises anyone with cold/cough/temperature to stay at home. Door handles etc to be disinfected between masses.

Kids are still at school though Hmm

NatoPMT · 11/03/2020 19:00

I’m really upset, I just spoke to my best friend. She’s Japanese but resident here.

She’s leaving, she’s actually fleeing this country. Packing up get life, her children’s lives and going because the uk is not a safe country to be in with this pandemic

She’s leaving me and I want her to, because I want her to be safe 😭😭

torthecatlady · 11/03/2020 19:01

@Sprayitall why can't people just follow the advice? Hmm

MoonlightMistletoe · 11/03/2020 19:01

@FuckThisWind where can I watch it?

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 19:06

@nato - I’m thinking of fleeing too now as I have no trust here.. plus elderly parents and family is there

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 19:06

So basically nothing new to report this eve, another Cobra meeting tomorrow for BJ to decide what new measures, if any, need to be taken

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 19:07

8 dead now?!

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 19:07

@Welliamnot - I don't think you want to be remote AND alone. 😟

@NatoPMT - as the day has gone on more and more large stores e.g. Decathlon, have announced they're closing. Plus all the tiny boutiques are shut in the city (reports from friends). Makes sense when it's meant to be essential shopping only.

Can your friend pay for a private flu & pneumonia blood test? It won't rule out CV, but it might rule in antibiotics. Did he have bloods? What was his WBC count? That alters in lots of CV cases doesn’t it?

@Sprayitall - sounds like they have got the right idea.

@rhij86 - statistics say you'd be better placed to stay well enough to care for him. 🤞

Bedding - washing sheets much more often - we've had lots of night fevers (lots of sweating). I have bed wetting sheets (Hippychick so no rustling) on beds too.

Towels - 60 degree washing every use (ABs also causing upset tummies)

For now 🤞🙏 touches wood / iron (Italian option) we are all on the mend rather than getting worse. We aren't going far or seeing many people at all. I don't know anyone who is infected - I'd say 95% of my contacts here are families with secondary school age kids.

The melatonin did help and I stopped and have had two bad nights. Will take it again tonight.

For anyone that gets ill - my DS1 has been ill since late Dec with medical checks in between, so ill, better, pneumonia, better, bronchitis, better for now. Don't do too much too soon if you get ill.

Buy in lots of actimel / supplements for improving gut bacteria if you have antibiotics. Maybe sleeping aids too.

WwwashYourHands · 11/03/2020 19:07

I heard that a friend of a friend, a teacher in a school in SE England, has heard that school closures are imminent and the teachers have been asked to prepare. Fingers crossed!

Legoandloldolls · 11/03/2020 19:08

@RubardTea. Diluted bleach or if you can get Milton or own brand steriliser tablets ( the ones for baby bottles) snap the tablet while inside the packet into four or eighths and then make up as instructed but with 1/4 or 1/8 of the liquid. It's good for 24 hours. After 24 hours soak your washing up bits in it and you can then wipe your surfaces down

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 19:08

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 19:13

Milton wipes were in plentiful supply in my local boots - in the baby aisle, not the cheapest but they would be good for your thermometer.

I can’t believe the government aren’t doing more to stop the spread, I despair. A friend has a cough and fever and just back from a week skiing in Northern Italy - she called 111 three days ago and still not received any info on being tested. The government figures cannot be right.

FuckThisWind · 11/03/2020 19:18

Andrew Neill saying on his show right now that no government ministers were available to speak tonight on either / or the Budget or on Coronavirus. On Budget day.
What a shower of shite, as per usual our Govt really are. But then, they rarely bothered with election debates. Yet still got in.

For anyone looking for hand gel, have a look in first aid kits. I’ve just ordered a St John’s Ambulance one that includes a small bottle of >60% gel. We have a first aid kit already but I’ll keep this one in the car so it won’t be wasted.

Legoandloldolls · 11/03/2020 19:19

I have been handbag diving and found two hand gels. The bonus of being a secret horder

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 19:22

Can anyone share their input on what words should we look for in the business insurance - it was discussed earlier and I forgot to share it with dh who is sorting it now

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 11/03/2020 19:24

Our primary sent out an email today saying this: (copy and paste)

my leadership team, in consultation with the governing body are putting together an action
plan should we be directed to close as part of an individual case or a blanket closure order from the
government. Plans include ways to ensure teachers are able to set work for, and support pupils with this work,
at home.
