@VenetoResident that’s horrible.. 6.6% is quite high

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 18:29

@Sprayitall hair: try shampoo on a wet flannel and wipe over the pony tail. Used this technique for DD before. If shampoo cleans grease out of hair, then it is likely to break the lipid outside of the virus. leaves the hair slightly sticky but if she has hair that is easily combed then combing gets the residue out when it is dry.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:31

Sorry if I am asking it again - I’m still contemplating about this. What will be your advise on sending dc to school morrow? Should I send her or risk the fine and keep her at home anyways? The Italy figures gives me shivers but I don’t want to leave it too late either

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 18:32

@BlackeyedSusan That’s what I was thinking too.. a good idea isn’t it. I will try that. Thank you .

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 18:34

This is what you need www.incontinencechoice.co.uk/age-co-shampoo-cap-with-conditioner.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj_WNkIeT6AIVGeDtCh2hKQbwEAQYASABEgJuQfD_BwE I believe this is what nursing staff use or that Towel Off stuff.

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 18:36

Our children haven’t attended school this week. I phone in and said they were sick.
I can’t see an LEA imposing a fine regarding school absences during a WHO pandemic. I’d fight them though court on that.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:36

@bankitten thank you. That’s a good idea too. I would have never known half the things existed if not for this thread.

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 18:36

Could anyone calm me down please, I am prepped apart from the fact I haven't been able to buy anything which could disinfect the thermometer. I'm thinking in case I get it and need to take both my and DCs temps. It's a mouth/underarm one, not ear one. I know if I have it, they'd probably get it but I still need to clean it properly. We don't have any hand sanitiser as it's just impossible to get and I am feeling regretful about that too which is daft really...

I can't find isopropyl alcohol anywhere that isn't at crazy prices and same with surgical spirit (I know they are very similar). My order from an online chemist has been delayed as they don't now have surgical spirit even though it was saying in stock when and after I purchased. Grrr! I am feeling a bit stressed what with the pandemic deceleration, death toll coming out of Italy and the fact that there were no loo rolls in the co op today, no paracetamol...
How can I disinfect a thermometer with no surgical spirit or similar? Please set my mind at rest. Flowers

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 18:37

Someone (sorry, not sleeping, can't remember names), mentioned the number of tests in Lombardy.

According to Wikipedia figures

Lombardy - 10,078,000 / 25629 tests = 0.25% of population tested

Veneto - 4,906,000 / 21400 tests = 0.44% of population tested

HasaDigaEebowai · 11/03/2020 18:39

How can I disinfect a thermometer with no surgical spirit or similar?

tcp? zoflora? dettol? Nail varnish remover?

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 18:40

Thanks Hasa I have TCP and wasn't sure if that would kill the virus.

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 18:40

Rhubarb

Do you have vinegar?

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:41

@RhubarbTea - A little soap and water may be?

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 18:41

I don't think so, nope...

RhubarbTea · 11/03/2020 18:42

Thanks guys. I know it's stupid but the inability to buy any kind of medical grade alcohol for sterilizing is just the thing that is bugging me.
Thank you for the suggestions...

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 18:43

Fuck fuck fuck

And b r e a t h.....

Today I have been trying to keep myself busy, making kimchi, yogurt, soups, elderberry cordial. But i keep feeling really scared and sad. It feels as though all of my years of prepping, bushcraft, herbal knowledge and survival skills are about to be tested Sad. There is no dummy run, no dress rehearsal, this is real it will leave huge wounds in peoples lives and it is not going to go away quickly. It is no longer an academic exercise or a life style choice made in times of calm.

I can not tell anyone just how scared i am, dh, dc, family all turn to me to know what to do and i really do not feel confident anymore. I have MS and i try to keep myself fit and strong, but i dont feel very strong right now.

Fuckety fuck

BlackeyedSusan · 11/03/2020 18:45

@YoursTunbridgeWells

Lots of the Brexit threads had ideas. The only thing we grew successfully last year were runner beans in a pot.

I also managed to grow some potatoes but not a big yield. The ground has been very weedy and overgrown. I am going to try peas and beans again to improve the soil.

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 18:45

Veneto i hope that your dc are recovering and that you and your family stay safe.

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 18:46

Vinegar has acetic acids which are shown to immobilise bacteria and viruses
journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0008987

My option would be fairy liquid and hot water.

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 11/03/2020 18:46

@Sprayitall - I know, I just realised after I wrote it that it could have come across the wrong way lol. My rational that I'm not being overly obsessive about my prep / hygiene is that there are people doing more than me. They are next level, so i'm good to carry on and still be able to justify it Grin

The 48 hour on surface is worrying though. I think I might go over everything with the steam cleaner.

@RhubarbTea What about antiseptic wipes or similar? They might not be enough to kill the virus but will clean the thermometer to some extent for family sharing and easier to get hold of at the moment.

KundaliniRising · 11/03/2020 18:49

Kakfor i hope that your family find each other safe and well under your roof.

ThreeTree · 11/03/2020 18:50

So while we prepped, we were keeping a steady head for the future. We’ve just had to cancel a short break we had planned for Poland as all the things we’d planned on doing have been closed. Such a shame but the right thing to do by their government.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:51

@KundaliniRising Hugs to you. May be make a cup of tulsi tea or make some lovely spiced turmeric milk before you turn in for the night? Just add half a cup of water to equal amount of milk, boil it on the stove, add some ground turmeric, black pepper and cardamom.. bring it to boil,, filter if needed and drink it warm. the smell and taste can be slightly rustic but it’s good to calm down and to boost immunity anyway.. xx

Coughsyrupsucks · 11/03/2020 18:52
