@Sprayitall someone said before that no germs hand cleaner is good but not proven on covid-19. They suspect it will kill the virus but cant be sure.

On that basis it's better than nothing I think. Can you try to do dd hair up in a series of bands that look like a French plat? So you pull in the fringe and tie up,pull in a small sections from.the sides, new band etc until you have lots of bands in the hair?

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:39

@KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping Yes, I think it’s true and always knew it can survive longer than 30’min .. I’m a healthscience grad so I am always extra cautious so I don’t care to be classified as ott but I have always been like that. I’m spraying everything that enters home -Spray it all lol.. also being extra careful while handling grocery bags by applying hand gel first, then holding it in the middle and not the handles or the bottom 😂

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:44

@Legoandloldolls I was thinking I can order some. That’s why. Ooh that’s a nice idea for the french plait look like.. will try it today and let you know..

@Kakfor Scary isn’t it.. Let’s all come out of this hale and healthy 🙏🏼

I read a week or two ago that it survives on metal surfaces for around 2 hours, but that wood and plastics was likely to be longer. I can't remember the source, a reputable scientific one, though, I think.

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 11/03/2020 17:48

@sprayitall - Sorry didn't mean to cause any offence with the 'ott' bit, most of my family think I'm ott for the steps I have taken.

I stopped using baskets and trolleys in the supermarket a few weeks ago, but I swear they think I'm stealing when I start filling my bag for life Blush.

I have no other reason to go out after Monday, so just getting last minute fresh / fridge items, then my door will be closed.

popped in to Lid and picked up a sprouting jar this morning (which unexpectedly also) came with seeds. Good price at £1.99 and bean sprouts are a very quick and easy way to get fresh veg into your diet if availability in of fresh produce the shops is low. I was reading something on a different website earlier about the effect the italy lockdown and imminent Spain restrictions (looking at their numbers) will have on the availability of fresh food in the shops in a month or so's time.

There was an expert on the radio a few days ago saying 48 hours on hard surfaces. Less on soft surfaces but it can still survive on soft surfaces

lachy · 11/03/2020 17:54

I've just blanched some carrots, broccoli and mangetout for the freezer. Going to chop onions next. I feel like I need to keep busy!

pemberlyshades · 11/03/2020 18:00

Does anyone know when the press conference will be today? After the cobra meeting I mean.

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 18:03

I don't think there is a press conference. It's a statement in parliament by Matt Hancock.

torthecatlady · 11/03/2020 18:10

My brother works in a hospital and apparently someone has tested positive for CV there but everyone else is carrying on as normal as per instructions!! Sad He is very concerned about how the NHS will cope both short and long term.

FuckThisWind · 11/03/2020 18:10

Statement in HoC @ 7pm

@KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping No no.. i’m not offended at all. I was saying its very normal of others to think I am ott as I had always been one. Lol. Also about filling the bag for life - Dh is doing that for the past few weeks and I get weirdly conscious about the looks we get too.

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 18:15

Governor of NY said 48hrs on stainless steel and plastics yesterday, he didn’t give a source.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 11/03/2020 18:16

I have a decent garden and a rotivator..... well DH has one.

Could I have more easy to grow seed recommendations? Please. I have spinach and rocket which have been fine in the past. I've also had sucess with radish.

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 18:19

How are you doing @VenetoResident?

NatoPMT · 11/03/2020 18:19

🤢 at Italy’s figures

How are you Veneto? How’s your son?

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 18:20

@torthecatlady Yes, that’s what I was saying. This morning the local surgery where a confirmed patient walked in has announced in their website that apparently 111 has classified this event as cat e (I have no idea what is cat e is ) and people who had been there at the same time when the case attended have been supposedly called and assessed and have asked to carry on as normal-no need to self isolate.

Funkycats · 11/03/2020 18:22

DD who works in EU has been contacted and told to quarantine, and will be tested later this week. Very glad she prepped for this.

NatoPMT · 11/03/2020 18:22

That mortality rate, which is quite frankly, horrifying, I’m assuming that’s due to lack of equipment and the health service being overwhelmed, is there any evidence of pathogen evolution?
