Just seen the Pandemic update. Fuck me but it’s grim isn’t it? Did someone mention an announcement? I’m supposed to be out for dinner tonight but I’ll be checking my phone now for updates.

It has, however, made my decision about DS and school easier. I’ve written the letter to his current school about withdrawing him and the school we’re enrolling him in seemed to really hint at keeping him off till Easter anyway... so I’m going to do that.

Both DP and I work in the tourism industry so I’m resigned to the idea of us getting it.

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 11/03/2020 17:04

Sorry if this is too morbid, report and delete if needed

If numbers of deaths are huge, does the uk have mortuary capacity? Or alternative provision? Would funerals be allowed?

Sorry it’s just been preying on my mind and I don’t know where to look for the info.

Apologies if this is felt to be in bad taste and inappropriate.

MoonlightMistletoe · 11/03/2020 17:05

@Sprayitall That's alcohol free, I think sanitizer is only effective if it has over 60% alcohol in it.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:07

@JaneBond0007 thank you.

@aloha Is it an online school you are enrolling in?

So everyone what y’all think.. should I keep dd off tomorrow also or send her in because of the tiff with the school this morning!?

RedLentilYellowLentil · 11/03/2020 17:07

@Duckyneedsaclean Matt Hancock is making a statement to the HoC at 7pm.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:07

@MoonlightMistletoe yesterday it was discussed it was good here somewhere in the thread isn’t it. That’s why I am asking it here

@JaneBond0007 thank you. I’ve mainly been following this thread as I’m struggling to keep up with the other one.

MoonlightMistletoe · 11/03/2020 17:10

@CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring A few weeks ago there were news articles stating that Hyde park would turn into a morgue in a case of emergency.

Funerals I'm not sure what would happen , I'm sure I read somewhere there was an online funeral in another country, perhaps someone else has some answers.

AlohaMolly · 11/03/2020 17:11

No, it’s the village school. Although alarmingly, the head, the nursery teacher and the receptionist were all off sick GrinGrin

The village I live in is populated with 50% first language Welsh speakers and 50% English - but the English residents are, by and large, in the outdoor activity industry so have either been holiday or working abroad all winter, and quite likely bloody skiing in bloody Italy, so I would say if tourism doesn’t get here first, they will all spark coronavirus here in rural wales, and our big town is a university town, so we’re buggered!

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 11/03/2020 17:14

HF - Italy's figures today Shock.

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 11/03/2020 17:15

Italy:

2313 - New cases
196 - New Deaths
1028 - Critical
1045 - Recovered

poshme · 11/03/2020 17:16

All local authorities have plans in place for pandemics- as regards morgues etc.
Italy have banned funerals I think.

JustMeAndMyTins · 11/03/2020 17:17

Shit. Those numbers are bad. 🙁

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:18

@AlohaMolly I love wales.. I don’t know why but love it much more than England .. as an outsider I feel the people there are more kind, thoughtful and straight forward. Also I love the falls and the sustained living concept of having your own water supply power etc

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 17:18

Please don’t use hard surface wipes on humans or pets!

BanKittenHeels · 11/03/2020 17:19

WHO have declared it an official pandemic.

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 17:19

Hi all. Didn't check in this morning and everything moved on! After one case on island its gone a bit crazy in the shops. Loads of people stockpiling so on day one rationing has had to be introduced.

I've quietly picked up what I need and left as I will cut into my stock if needs be. This island goes mad at a flake of snow so there will be carnage if we get more cases. Schools are already sorting measures.

One student asked a teacher today if schools were going to close and the reply was 'not yet' which speaks volumes.

AlohaMolly · 11/03/2020 17:21

sprayitall I grew up Down South in England and came here at 18, so I know exactly how you feel! I pinch myself at least 3x a week because I still can’t believe I live here and raise my child here, and I’m 33 this year!

I know I’m generalising massively, but the people up here and on Anglesey are the kindest, happiest, most compassionate people I have ever met Flowers

sideorderofchips · 11/03/2020 17:21

Just seen Who had declared it a pandemic

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:22

Anyone have any guesses what Matt might say tonight? Dh and I have bet now lol.. Dh says it will go nowhere and he will say “even though who has declared it a pandemic we, England experts don’t think it’s one so all workers and children can continue school/working and everything will go ahead as normal”.. strangely I couldn’t agree more but still also hoping he will say something proactive .. fingers crossed

bobbbbby · 11/03/2020 17:27

Cookiesareforeating All local authorities have a pandemic plan, they were written in 2009 (I worked on ours). They have plans in place re: how they would deal with high volumn of deaths

KeepCalmandCarryonPrepping · 11/03/2020 17:30

@Oxyiz I would like to know how long it remains on surfaces as well.

Again it's the uncertainty of not knowing. I thought that the people wiping over delivered items and food shopping etc are being a bit OTT but if this is true then it's understandable why they are taking such measures.

I haven't started wiping and cleaning as yet but I am leaving my cupboard items in the bag for as long as possible before unpacking the shopping. I also made sure I was at the shops for opening today, so less people to cough over me and the things on the shelves.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 17:33

@AlohaMolly True that. I’m not generalising either but I am saying this with just my experience. I once visited Conwy maze when I was travelling with dh earlier and also a little cake shop which I don’t remember the name - but one of the fantastic cake shops I have ever been. Lovely memories.. thank you
