Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

Personally I'm very grateful to the peppers because they're pretty much the only people who haven't caused any stock issues whatsoever! I'm a semi-prepper - I prepped for the first time for Brexit and have been topping up slowly since the first coronavirus cases started to emerge. Will never go back to not having stocks in the house - I feel so much better knowing we're prepared and it's much easier to just replace things one by one as they get used now. So grateful to everyone on these boards for the tips.

Sorry I accidentally put in the Coronavirus topic, will ask MNHQ to move to Preppers...

@Somerville they don't. I spoke with my friend in red zone. He was told to self isolate and unless his symptoms develop more severely, he would not be tested. He has a mild fever and cold like symptoms.

Thank you kundalini. I have checked on 2 elderly neighbours now, the ones I checked on today spoke to me out of the window because she has a heart condition and is too scared to open the door

I have 4 mini hand gels from January and I’ve posted one through each of their doors. I’ve just found a link online to buy 4 bottles of 500ml so I’m putting one each in my husbands bars for customers to use, one for refills for the elderly neighbours & mil, and one for me as I will be out and about doing their Shopping as they have no food in

@NatoPMT

That’s terrifying!

It’s not quite correct though is it? It’s half of the TESTED people, many will just feel crap but assume it’s the seasonal flu or whatever and ‘get over it’ I think. At least that’s what we keep being told - I’m hoping it’s correct, or we’re screwed.

I think we are fairly well screwed anyway, given the NHS was on its knees with people on beds in corridors before this. I have no idea where they’re going to magic up hundreds, let alone thousands of extra beds 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m very scared. (A few pre existing conditions and not as young as many of you young things!)

We really shouldn’t have to be scared because where the medical care was good, the recovery rate was good - but unfortunately we lack the machinery China has.

Another vote for this to go back into the Preppers Board please @MNHQ

There will always be people not taking this seriously till it affects them. This is not up for discussion really on the Preppers Board. We have seen the huge rise in Italy's numbers. And we know that we will follow that same sort of trajectory. Albeit more sporadic. But we are such a small country. It makes sense to be prepared. No panic. Just sensible discussion and forethought.

Thanks to Veneto for keeping us uptodate on how things are in Italy.

I hope your whole family is feeling better.

We have family in Milan and the Treviso area.
Worrying times.

Prepping is more common in all indian households too. If both of us have to be at the office, I batchcook and freeze so the evenings are a breeze..It also saves time from making elaborate meals. Prepping is NOT panic buying. Pickling and preserving is prepping. Rushing to the shop to buy at the last minute is panic buying Pickling, preserving, freezing, sun drying seasonal items, grind the spices / masalas, stock rotation, replacing the used items right away with new ones is all what we do as mums. Yes I have kitchen rolls but not like 360 rolls to make a fort. I have a total of 12 rolls (I still remember a friend who was moving overseas gave me the stock she had 10 years ago) and since then I have been stock rotating.

The figures are all over the place, the WHO figures for mortality were entirely different to the UK information

It has been said all along that there is regional variation with differing testing and reporting meaning no base standard and within that Italy’s results are particularly challenging

I don’t know what’s causing Italy’s differences in either reporting or more casualties regardless of reporting

Italians smoke, Italians kiss, there may be a higher viral load in their quarantining methods, I have no actual information on that..,

@ofwarren
Yes, the uncertainty is awful. My gut says this is going to be very bad but the rational side of my mind keeps trying to talk me out believing my gut!
I had swine flu back in 2009, thanks to a customer at work sneezing right into my face. So I'm quite wary of being around people right now.

I’d saved the original packaging of the packs I’d copied and husband couldn’t tell the difference

Which one did you get, KundaliniRising?

I’ve just ordered some Hibiscrub, as I have clients dropping off/picking up dogs every day and it’s a brilliant product. All the small bottles are sold out, so I had to order the big one, but I’ll use it anyway. You add water to it, so there’s probably enough to clean all the houses in the street. 😁

Just a wee heads up for those looking for hand sanitisers, you can still pick some up from office supply companies, though they’ve definitely went up in price.

The only favour Brexshit has done for me, was turn me into a more serious prepper, so I don’t have to panic now.

I was sent a link to this great youtube video by a friend. It is a bit mathy but it explains what is driving the growth rate of the corona (or any other epidemic style disease) and what we can do to slow things down (hint being able to isolate ourselves because we have prepped is right up there)

@NatoPMT and other tempted but the hand gel on Carethy - please google the company - lots of reviews claiming they are a scam company. You may prefer to take a chance and hope to receive the products but good to go in knowing their reputation.

Puppy I know Indian households tend to buy 10 kilo sacks of rice etc. Same for other Asian Countries. I've spent a lot of time in Asia. And I have Indian friends. They seem to be way better prepared. The British seemed to be good at being prepared until a few decades ago. It's as if we are now invincible. It's a scary, dismissive way of thinking. Never going to happen to us. Not going to be hit any time soon by famine, flood, diphtheria, cholera, TB, malaria, tsunami's, hurricanes... you get the picture.

Nice that we can learn from each other here. Just because we don't have extremes in our weather (usually) or usually suffer from famine (ignoring child poverty here in the UK) some folk think it will always be ok and so the status quo continues / normalcy bias is held by half of the population.

And you still have it?

I have some of it, some of it is from years before that, some of it from years following. I have a large family, we are prepared to look after them. I do my part for the community in various ways (one of those is taking myself out of the scrum). If you don’t understand just in time supply lines and personal responsibilities, that’s not my problem.

@Nato That’s lovely. :) if I like any recipes, I buy all the ingredients from it enough to serve 9 people, then it goes straight into the recipe book. I find most of the supermarket Indian curries here are made to appeal the wider English population and is no where near authentic. Dh and me love authentic food when we choose to indian so that leaves me cooking atleast once a day 😅

@Hippywannabe not sure if you are asking me specifically but I think schools will have to tell you if a someone at the school has it, as part of contact tracing. They might/probably won't announce if someone is self-isolating or just suspected of having it but is known to be vulnerable, she has care in place at school, I have asked to be informed if there is any suspected cases associated with the school and they have agreed
